I clicked on that thread wondering why it was 18 pages, there's a lot I could say about what I read on the single page but I'm going to focus on how valuable they all think their useless identifying information is. Yeah, that's what companies want, to advertise to YOU [GOVERNMENT NAME OF SOME NEET] personally and there's huge money in this so that they'll waste gobs more money pulling it out of aggregate data.

Finally, I just want to say there's no reason to comply early for a private company because some of the other overseas countries made it a law then immediately to pivot apply age verification to global for everyone like I mentioned they said they would already verify your real age based on my games and schedule? The only game I played in 2025 was FFXIV, and I listed my fav new game is Pokemon Z-A along with the fact I'm always on discord all day, even during the early morning if my insomnia is that bad too.

Yes, I know discord is already data-mining me since it's a free service and they can't break even on the goodwill and Nitro sales for ages for the last decade too. Most of the time I joined servers for my manga, BL fans, FFXIV, and tech servers which are mostly SFW servers, but even then I'm cautious of the idea that some people will be caught and forced to submit their PII.

Then I had no idea so many here were pro-government surveillance, esp considering everything happening in the USA for like the entire last year and ongoing now. There's no way that Discord can be "forced" to this unless they have a good idea how they can benefit from forcing their users to give up even more data for a future plan.

The private companies are not looking out for the average users most like they are looking for ways to make even more money even if meant angering a good portion of their main audience since this is what the company will always do it until they push the limits of what is acceptable to us.

edit: Also, why would Discord want to serve ads based on specific user data versus just having a probably already existing AI agent scan the messages of the Discord to determine what it's about? The former sounds like a bunch of work while the latter probably can automatically just plug into existing ad services.
