Saying someone suffering with tourettes should accept their pariah status and never leave their house to go to social events because they're a 'disturbance" and also something about the Jews

Apparently Davidson excused himself from the proceedings after dropping the N-bomb, so maybe "leave if you think you're going to say some heinous shit" isn't too far off the mark?

He's disabled, not retarded.

I think it's a bad situation all around, but clearly someone (likely several someones) didn't think things through.

That dude was saying it like Davidson was able to control it like going to take a shit or a piss.

It also sounds like the audience was warned beforehand about his condition (he was there because a film based on his life was nominated).

If we wanna use a shit/piss metaphor, imagine if you had a disability where you spotaneously shit or piss in the most inappropriate locations. Is the right thing to do to put that person in the crowd of the BAFTAs and say "well, we warned ya'll" as he's the splatter of his release is anointing everyone adjacent?

I'm not saying I have an actual, specific answer here. Just that I think the approach they went with wasn't it--things obviously went sideways very quickly (this was the first award of the show).

It's really disappointing that nobody sees how I'm the victim of people talking about this event that doesn't matter in ways I don't like. Just shows how fast "progressives" or "leftists" will drop the mask and throw someone under the bus when it's someone they don't care about. That makes me a double victim, which is way more victim than Zionazis so I win and basic human decency mandates you prioritize my desires at all times. ERAsure of the marginalized!

Is it okay to punch someone on the bus for yelling the n-word at you? What if I told you they had a mental illness. Not Tourettes, just mental illness. Now what if I told you that 90% of the people yelling the n-word at strangers are mentally ill? You're just going to beat up mentally ill people? Or n-word pass for everyone no questions asked, just in case?

Another wrinkle in that hot potato of that cookie is that tourettes guy said, "fuck the Queen," to her genocidal ass.

Quote:"But then I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was one of the Royal Archers, the Queen's bodyguards while she's in Holyrood, and a voice said 'Don't stress, she knows all about your condition'."

"That to me was huge because I've struggled so much with everyday life, with people misunderstanding, and if the Queen of the United Kingdom can understand and ignore the tics and the swear words then why can't the rest of society?"

Let's see if Era is as classy as the Queen.

I honestly would love to as well.  We could see see Era applauding him for being so brave for saying that.

C'mon Nepenthe, you closed the thread, now you write the threadmarks when it opens.  You can hear them looking though archives of Psychology Today looking for a decade old article saying that only those that are indeed a little racist will say the word.

So that fucking loony needs to get the fuck off and never leave his house because otherwise he is an egoistic asshole? That is not also unfair? Let’s treat him like a pariah so our celebrities don’t feel uncomfortable because I don’t see them as adult human beings but as an extension of myself.

I wish the thread was not closed so you posted this shit so everyone could see it. You cowards.

"Our pain" Popular

There was a paper I was reading recently about justice and to extract and reword the relevant unspoken nugget, basically "progressive" concepts of "justice" effectively remove any importance of intent and create a duty for all to "remedy" anything anyone doesn't like no matter what the reasons for it. Which itself is both impossible and creates a form of injustice, such as making it a crime to not react, to not weep, to not leap to the defense of some celebrities because a single word was uttered, for everyone else to not immediately display fealty to this pursuit, etc. And so, being understanding of the tourette's guy becomes an offense against all Black people everywhere that everyone now needs to be held accountable for. A neverending ratchet to a panopticon society where everything not mandatory is a crime.

I just was reading a Reddit thread where someone was precisely saying “intent=/=impact” because he thought it didn’t make him sound like an asshole about this situation.

Imagine asking an ill person to apologize for being a nuisance. But that's none of my business...

Social Media lefties are incapable of processing a situation where there is no a real simple answer and someone to blame.

It's less about her being a fake gamer and more the rise of anti-Indian sentiment on social media and places like Resetera. Anyone in that thread posting against the promotion of Asha Sharma, especially with the use of her involvement in AI, are absolutely racist and should be banned from the platform.

Now I have to be exposed to what those nazis at reddit think about it.  If I go chud it's all Era's fault.

Edit:  This tasteful response from reddit.

Quote:Hey everyone 💜

We’ve seen a lot of strong reactions to this situation and honestly, this is one of those times where things are deeply complicated and there are no easy, perfect answers.

Tourette’s is a neurological condition that for some, can involve involuntary vocalizations. That reality exists at the same time as another very real truth: racial slurs are painful, harmful, and upsetting for people who hear them. Both things can be true at once, and that is what has made this situation so deeply complicated.

It’s okay to feel conflicted, hurt, uncomfortable or angry. It’s important to remember though that not everything done by someone with a disability is intentional or malicious.

What we don’t want is dogpiling, harassment, or using this moment to mock disability or to dismiss the impact of racist language. Please keep discussions thoughtful, empathetic, and grounded in good faith. Assume people are trying to understand, not just “win.”

Pop culture doesn’t always give us clean villains or clear-cut takes, and this is one of those times. Let’s treat each other with compassion while we talk it through.

Thanks, y’all.

Imagine if anyone at Era could write something with that level of empathy and care for both the subject and it's members.

Quote:But what made the situation worse was the throw away apology

And here is the problem… there is no way to ask for an apology without taking in account the impossible situation it is. A throwaway apology from the show organizers or a sincere but emotionally devastating from a disabled person?

It sucks doesn’t it? When the world becomes more complicated and you cannot blame anyone.

I’m just recently started to use Reddit so I didn’t know this was thing:

Quote:Your comment was removed because only approved users can comment without delay on posts marked with the Guest List Only flair.

Our mod team manually reviews comments from non-approved users and approves those that contribute meaningfully to the conversation and follow subreddit rules.

If you’ve had enough of a positive comment history in our sub for at least 30 days, you’re welcome to request to be an approved user.

Comments in Guest List Only threads do count toward your positive history, so feel free to keep engaging—even if your comment isn’t visible right away, it might still be approved

So any Reddit community can be a fucking ERA hellhole? Why even allowed to comment? A stupid user can say “why are you guys defending the white actor?” Six and no person can correct him unless is part of the sub.

Fucking hell world we live in.

How many of their threads are raging about how "businessmen" or "techbros" or "gooners" come into the industry and apparently direct it away from its progressive ideals? How many posts about how they're "taking over the industry" and sending it to hell rather than the paradise it was where nothing ever fails or offends?
