So I know *very* little about the condition other than having worked with some children who have it, but my limited understanding is that for some people it's kind of like intrusive thoughts. Like how you might hold back a chuckle if you think "It would be really bad if I laughed right now" at a funeral. I imagine it's part of why Tourette Syndrome has the stereotype of people just blurting out swear words.

It impairs their ability to use the mental "brakes" that stop you from just blurting out random thoughts that pass your mind. Thing you would never say, things you don't feel. Much like how someone with intrusive thoughts might think "What would happen if I pushed this person onto the street" while waiting for traffic lights, even though they would never ever do something like that, someone with Tourette Syndrome might say out loud part of that thought.

Interesting.

Well this sucks but it does seem going forward now that this occurred things may have to be different. That's all I will say.

I don't care if any CEO plays games, Yamauchi didn't play games and his company did fine. I still think the new CEO is laughable though, since she was telling people on Twitter to look at her Xbox profile to see what games she's played, and the first achievement that user had received was in mid-January. For me it's not about her not being a gamer, but about the lame attempts to make her look like one.

It's definitely a few things.

The Bungie brand name. The Marathon brand name. The centralization of items and avenues of player interaction over pure displays of raw skill against other living players (namely the itemization). The availability to all major platforms for these games so one less avenue of resentment. "Involving" players well in advance in the creation of the game and the creation of its mindshare/promotion (where as Concord was an ensconced, ivory tower pure passion project instead). It not being in direct competition to long term industry pet/darling developers (another huge factor, really).

It's super, super obvious that Marathon and Concord were sibling games. For anyone who actually played Concord and who will play this game, it's going to be super evident. It's just obvious in their quite similar visual aesthetics, let alone the ways they talk about their various design language ethos.

They were yin and yang. Peanut butter and jelly (or chocolate). Salt and pepper. Sweet and savory (or spicy).

They were the same core mechanical action gameplay with pristine art and playspace environments, yet had different ideological design wrappers sitting over top of them. Marathon was work (runners), Concord was play (freegunners). Concord was fast, Marathon will be slow. Concord was relaxed, Marathon will be tense. Concord was warm, Marathon is cool. I could go on and on and on and fucking on.

But there absolutely still is and will be a sizeable contingent of people out there who will be cheering for this game's demise too.

I'm still mad, and I'll stay mad forever. But my time with the game will never be taken from me at least. And everyone else really did miss out, truly.

I hope to even get a tiny glimmer of the joy I felt blasting people away in Concord in Marathon.

When I blast people in this game, one of my go to lines is going to harken back to my boy Lennox: ~rub some dirt in it~
