So long as Republicans control the federal government, any and all state legislation that discriminates against anyone not a white cisgender Christian is perfectly legal.

Yeah. A decade ago they were looked at as weirdos with stuff like the bathroom bill. Then you have Chris Rufo pushing the drag queen story hour nonsense and framing teachers and librarians as groomers under the guise of 'protecting children' normalizing transphobia as 'just asking questions' and here we are. It's really something to see this not get any kind of pushback in the media. Not just conservatives but liberals too. You even have gays and lesbians that try to distance themselves from trans people. It definitely feels like more of an uphill battle now, but it's one that we have to win.

When Roe v Wade was overturned I started having this fantasy of a huge online crowdfunded modern version of Harriett Tubman's Underground Railroad where people trapped in these regressive shithole red states could get funding to move and resettle in more progressive states.

The fantasy just keeps growing and growing the more I see stuff like this.

I know some people admirably prefer to stay and fight for their communities in these places but god it would be satisfying to see these red states abandoned by all well-meaning and enlightened people and left to fester. What cesspools of ignorance and squalor they would become. Intellectual, philosophical, cultural and economic black holes that would collapse in on themselves within a generation.

I would focus on questioning the presumption that because someone has declared a boycott that means anyone is participating let alone that it's reached cultural mass to appear in the population at large. People who want to see a Scream movie but are upset that an actress got fired years ago For Palestine is such an incredible niche group to doubt that even with 100% participation in the boycott that anyone would see it in box office figures to begin with. Era members think it's "everybody" because they live in a deliberately restrictive bubble. ("How did Nixon win? Everybody I know didn't vote for him.")

Evangelicals, a much larger share of the American population than Era type progressives, are constantly boycotting this or that, yet Era members never bother to even find out about them let alone if they're having any effect on box offices of targeted films. (I would imagine they largely don't for the same reason most ideological boycotts do nothing, they aren't the target audience in the first place.)
