Hell of a fucking thread we got here where people are tripping over themselves to openly mock people for pointing out an actor supported a pedophile rapist.

What a wild fucking thread. Multiple people mocking and making fun of posters who bring up that Ford supported a pedo well in his 60s. The Wikipedia controversies tab line was hilarious, but the overall sentiment in that thread is disgusting.

I'm very curious to see how that thread ends up getting moderated if at all. It seems like there's been an uptick of threads lately that start out as something harmless which ultimately leads into posters sniping at each other. I'm not sure what's causing it but I wish it would stop.

The sniping was all from people that got upset that people fairly brought up Ford's heavy association with Polanski. People just could have chosen to ignore those posts if they didn't like it.

I mean, it does go both ways in that regard, people who felt to bring up Ford's association could have just ignored the thread, or made a separate one.

I disagree with that. If celebrities have done problematic things in the past, it's only fair that it follows them around for life. Every single time I see Seinfeld's underage grooming shit mentioned in a thread, I respect that somebody kept the information fresh, and I keep reading what the thread is about. If people feel discomfort mentally reconciling the damning information with their idolization of the celebrity, then that's something they'll have to figure out on their own. Shaming the people who bring up problematic pasts is not how we should be operating. People can continue to engage with the thread without whining about other Era users keeping people aware of the wrongdoings of celebrities.



And quite frankly, there are many pockets of the Internet where this website lives rent-free in their heads, and some of the comments in the thread were 1-2 steps removed from how those places talk about the users of this place.

Nope, it was relevant for a thread about him being celebrated. What wasn't relevant was the people posting about that being attacked and mocked.

Maybe people are just getting fed up of gotcha posters trying to derail what feels like every fucking thread on Era. This seems to be getting more and more common on here recently.



The post about people sitting ready with the controversies section of Wikipedia open feels amusingly accurate.

As I said, it should have been a separate post. I'm not saying that it shouldn't be talked about, but posting something like that is a thread derail.



Would you post in an Oscars thread that they awarded an award to him? A thread about any of the other people in the audience cheering the win/delivery? And if so, why haven't people been doing that? Because a search for Polanski reveals that that hasn't been done in the past.

It was a thread that was directly celebrating Harrison Ford. Some users here don't think that he's deserving of a celebration and they clearly expressed why. If the thread wasn't about a celebrity as idolized as Ford and about somebody with far less reach, people wouldn't have reacted the way that they did.

I suppose people can feel how they're going to feel, but I just scroll past most posts I don't like, personally.

But threads celebrating the Oscars don't get the same energy. They gave him an Oscar 14 years after the movie came out, him delivering the award is weird, but the giving of the award is even weirder.



This is why people see this as performative, or a gotcha moment instead of trying to actually share information for people who might not know.

A few posts above we've got somebody else stating that it happens in "every fucking thread". And now you're telling me the general Oscars thread (which I honestly don't think I've ever opened) doesn't have that energy. The meta complaints about Era just don't add up. I think people just got twisted up because it was a celeb they liked getting singled out in that individual thread.



And, quite frankly, if people did bring the same energy to the Oscars thread, I'd support them doing it there too. They're just celebs. If they want to lie with dogs then they're gonna carry fleas with them forever. Fuck it, put every one of them on blast that deserve it.

I'm not that person above. I looked through old posts and used the sites, shockingly robust search function. It does happen a lot, not specifically with this topic, but this topic is the one being discussed, and while Roman Polanski is made the butt of a joke, or brought up from time to time in association with other shitty people, he's n
ever brought up in other threads. This was the first thread about someone who supports him, that it was brought up in.
