I noticed a couple of Playstation studios posters early on in the thread (zeovgm and that other nutcase with the like astrobot grannturismo avatar) but yeah you are right it's mostly Bungie fanatics. Most PlayStation studios OT warriors could tell which way the wind was blowing and saved themselves the embarrassment of trying to cape for the game

I don't suffer from game main character = me syndrome so I have never been able to understand complaints on how people can't relate to a main character that isn't their specific gender or race.

There are two such cases in the novel. The first appears in Volume 4 - Fairy Dance. The second appears in Volume 11 - Alicization Turning. Both of these scenes were written back during the web novel era (2002-2008) of Sword Art Online, and it's no secret that fans don't care for them. Fairy Dance is one of the most disliked arcs of SAO, after all.

When the anime adaptation came around, the anime decided that, for whatever reason, it was going to make both of these scenes incredibly more intense than what they were in the novel. They also took other scenes that were not sexual assault, and made them significantly worse as well. This is what lead to the author apologizing. He never says anything negative about the anime adaption or the people who work on it, and this was perhaps the closest thing to him saying something negative.

At any rate, the fans don't like these scenes either. Moreover, the series has been devoid of such scenes since (anime adaptation being creepy aside), and the two characters involved in in the scene that was specifically apologized for have since become awesome and important.

So can we get back to discussing Echoes of Aincrad now, please?

So the crux of it for me is simple: I just don't find it hot. 😅 I've read spicier scenes in a book; but I barely feel much (but laughter) watching two game models awkwardly clipping each other, or GoD oF wAr approaches some woman touching herself with the worst 'come hither' looks...
