this is a 2.1 GB archive of the Bore as it existed in the final days before being shut down, I said it was 9 gigs last page but that was prior to zipping it

extract it all to a folder, then when navigating the folder structure, the initial index you encounter is from the archiving program setting up a shell for browsing it, and the only link there will open the main bore index

you can click on any threads or pages, but not usernames or forum management type links, or search, unfortunately...

but big things are happening, as tylenoljones has revealed himself as a master programmer (using chatgpt) and has added his own search function to this archive, and may be adding more features

I gave your file to ChatGPT and told it to build out a viewer with the search feature and it got it working within an hour by building out a db, extracting all the data to it, then building a site to view it.
Very basic right now (just one page of details), but should be easy to add new features to. 
I'm off to Japan tomorrow for a week, but when I get back I can get it cleaned up and pushed to a git repo so other people can mess around with it.

You'll need about 15gb of free space to run it all. If you have issues running it ask chatgpt for help first. If you want write access let me know, you will need a github account.

As with the archive Uncle made I've been lazy about putting up, I'll look into what I need to do with this. If all else fails I suppose I could ask ChatGPT to write me PHP SQL code.  In general, the servers resources aren't really used all that much and even having to set this up as another database and related scripts would not add to the overhead as it's not like people will be using it as often as the main forum anyway.

I probably will still put up the Uncle archive because that will be better crawled by Google and stuff.

I made a full site backup, minus externally hosted images, and some of the embeds like youtube and twitter show up a bit broken, but it's functional

for example here is a random thread from 2008 about somebody getting shingles with the local address visible at the top



I just don't have anywhere to host 9 gigs of files, nor the knowledge of whether it needs specific formatting to make it work as a live site instead of an archive

RIP - I was on Tokyopia before the owner sold the domain to a startup that never used it AFAIK. DCharlie and Cormacaroni invited me to the earlier bore incarnation, before the name change. It had its ups and downs, but was a home for many of us for years. 

This version we're in now, it feels like a different thing than the old one. Maybe nicer, less acidic.

Can I get the simple, no-BS explanation as to why thebire replaced thebore? 



All I know was the the bore was sometimes down and when it was back at one point, there was almost no traffic. But then i discovered most people had migrated to a new forum (this one).

The Bore was basically unusable for most of the day for a while and demi's wording suggested he didn't care about it anymore. So I made this and since all the shitbin stuff came over so did most of the active posters. demi fixed the OG but few seemed interested in going back without the shitbin. None of the people who threatened to come back when we left and the shitbin was closed did. Then demi decided to not just keep the OG up since nobody was using it.

I had renamed this to The Bire off that joke because I wanted the old people to be able to keep "The Bore" as my intent was not to steal the legacy.

Glossing over a lot of Great Tumbler actively spitting in the userbase's faces to curry favour with a little twink with a discord and also Demi saying that someone should make a bore copy because he wouldn't put it back up if it went down. But that's pretty accurate.
