I sometimes wonder if it does more harm than good to fire untargeted saccharine platitudes out into the aether, because anyone who is truly feeling bad knows that the message wasn't really intended for them specifically

shit like "you are loved, even if you think no one else out there loves you, I do  " and it's like bitch you don't even know me, what if I'm opposed to everything you stand for? what if I was a trump voter, would you retract your statement? how far would you really go to prove that you generically care for everyone, and if it's not that far, how about you stop saying things you don't mean?

what if someone's family is abusive to them and they don't feel loved due to that, how is your little message going to help? what if they're cripplingly lonely and get rejected in romantic efforts constantly? what if they're in a depression spiral, and they know you're just the latest in a countless procession of people who will pay lip service to caring but doesn't actually care at all?

I think people romanticize the idea of being "that one small voice, that one friendly note I saw that gave me the motivation to keep going, you saved me" and imagine this happening countless times every time they post something like that, without understanding how the circumstances matter, how IRL moments like that are infinitely more meaningful, etc.

It can work better in other communities, where it's clear the people do care about each other. Lots of churches or social congregations where people struggling are shown compassion and given legitimate help by those in the group, and the words of love don't ring hollow even if many don't know the person very well, because they help anyway. I've seen it in Discords as well, although those are admittedly smaller and tighter knit.

But RE is a vicious community that sees a Nazi in each other's every shadow and they do their best to tear each other down to get off on being better than them and to raise their own social standing. So yeah, in their community, such declarations of love and care are completely laughable.
