At least some of the new books coming out might be alright.

The next CRISIS will presumably be ABSOLUTE CRISIS but I hope it uses that Absolute Universe way better than KO did, like an issue of fights before the heroes turn good and then go away. I'm starting to kind of wish they wouldn't cross them over at all even though that's always been the point. Presumably DC wants to do like the new Ultimate Marvel and just have it around for a while before it reintegrates back into the main universe with an EVENT.

The Absolute books are hitting issue 17 or so and yet it still feels like they're trying to build up to their first real story and it's all been prologue until now. Except for Absolute Wonder Woman which is probably the best of them. I wouldn't mind it except that I have zero faith these books exist except for what's now clearly going to be another crisis. Even though CRISIS stories are every story now and no longer matter unless DC's going to undo the EVERYTHING IS CANON restoration from Rebirth. Endless wanking about how ACKTUALLY THIS THING WAS THIS ALL ALONG AND SEE HOW MUCH THAT MATTERS. Nope, it's all meaningless. Dark Crisis was another Infinite Crisis where the buildup and side stuff was better than the shitty central event that actually had zero real ramifications. How do we get them to stop doing Crisises and do another 52 or even Futures End instead?

The newest Absolute Batman is doing the same trick it’s done a couple times now. They show a classic Batman villain looking as they normally do. Then super turbo charging them into a monstrous thing. It’s a reoccurring hook now.

Next you’ll see Firefly initially as a normal guy with a jet pack and flamethrower. On the last page he turns into Surtr. Next issue Alfred says “kid, it’s literally impossible to fight this fire giant. I’m pissing myself talking about it. Seriously. Do not try.” And the issue after that Batman uses his axe to 99.999% kill Firefly with Alfred thinking “Wow. Amazing. This kid defies expectations. A maestro of combat.” The issue following that, “Kid, he isn’t just a scientist with an ice gun. You don’t get it. It’s too scary to say what he really is.”
