This is my personal experience so idk how it pans out in aggregate, but I have a suspicion it plays a role in how rural white folks end up in their position and then voting the way they do. I grew up with a mishmash of people who are anywhere from ~1st to 3rd generation Americans. While we were all poor, the immigrants usually had the hunger to improve and apply themselves. Extra hours studying, helping out the family, getting a job early, etc. The ones who were established here often did not have that initiative as much. There was an expectation of minimum quality of life with hard lines against impinging upon it.

I believe the complacency of privilege I saw has had an impact on the decline of the white male we've seen throughout my lifetime. And I've also seen how Jordan Peterson's "clean your room" angle wormed its way into this demographic. Looksmaxxing feels like the even more cynical next step of that.

Right now, AI is undermining human agency at the same time it's enhancing it. The proliferation of low-quality AI-generated content is making public social networks noisier and less trustworthy at a time when we need accurate information more than ever. The signal is getting harder to find exactly when it matters most.

The major platforms aren't trying to fix this problem. They're using AI to increase the time users spend on-platform, to harvest training data, and to shape what users see and believe through systems they can't inspect and didn't choose. We think AI should serve people, not platforms. An open protocol puts this power directly in users’ hands. You can use it to build your own feeds, create software that works the way you want it to, and find signal in the noise.
