RE9 review: grace's levels are 11/10 no notes, leon's levels tend to drag especially in act 2.  
 
I give it an 8/10 - better than village. Hopefully RE10 introduces a new location entirely, the nostalgia wankery in RE9 was getting tiring but it is a 30th anniversary game after all. The series has gone to Spain to West Africa to Louisiana to Romania, let's keep up the world tour of bioterrorism.

Resident Evil 6's storytelling has gotten better with age. 

One of the story beats is that some Chinese lab has created a new strain of the C-virus and had a massive outbreak. 

Really made me enjoy my playthrough last year.

I never jumped on the Resident Evil 6 hate bandwagon. I do know where it comes from but I disagree.

RE6 was a tail end of the generation mainline game, the "encore" for players who had enjoyed Resident Evil 4+5. 
RE4 -> RE5 -> RE6 had been steadily building up to this. The characters no longer scared and weak but experienced killing machines.


So Capcom dropped bigger action, more character variety and even bigger monsters and boss scenarios. Max out what the PS3/Xbox 360 could do.



But it got blindsided by games that were considered "mature" and "deep" like Uncharted 2/3, Max Payne 3 and Mass Effect 3. 
"Gamers" wanted annoying wives and gay uncles in their video games not tentacle monsters, boobs and zombie presidents.

I decided to pick up Marathon just to see for myself what all the fuss is about. I tried the server slam, but got killed by a bot during the training mission and didn't bother trying again. 

It is actually a fun game with great atmosphere. Graphics are stylish, music is peak, and it really is surprising me.

That said, I hope most of Bungie gets laid off and just enough staff remain to keep the game on-line for a couple years.

Also, been checking out my steamdb comparison graph each day, and waiting for the day Hunt Showdown has more concurrent than Marathon. Soon.

Donkey Kong Bananza

Great game so far. I'm at layer 101 or whatever it is. No pauline yet just a little rock thing that can sing.

Overall Nintendo just has a patent on fun. So far I'm just going into random directions and always end up at the right place anyway.

Donkey Kong is one of those games where you just do stuff and have fun...and there's plenty of fun in there. However, it's also one of those games that would have benefited from being shorter as the experience starts to drag. Great ending though and well worth sticking around for.

Metroid Prime 4. Started at 9 around midnight I realized I was still playing

Ice Belt is certainly a highlight of the game.

Good momentum with the abilities now and finally some fun toys to play with that had been missing like the boost ball.

That was a great sequence. Again shows that modern game journalists have no taste and no idea what a good game is.

Metroid Prime > Metroid Prime 4 > Metroid Prime 2 > Metroid Prime 3


Metroid Prime is special because it was made by the guys that did Turok, Quake and Half Life. It was literally what if you put together a team of some of the most talented FPS designers and Nintendo. Metroid Prime 2 is in theory the best designed game of all 4 but the punishing difficulty and literally having the air slowly kill you just makes it less fun to play.

Metroid Prime 4 is strange it has some fantastic production values, sequences and environments and stuff that's like TEMU Metroid and first internship level.

Great Mines explored. I think I have all the abilities now. All that's left is the Mech, some back tracking for items and the Green Crystals.
12 hours in, items at 75%, scans at 87%.

The more complex morphball sequences woven into the environments are great.

Finished Metroid Prime 4. The finale was a bit lacking. 

Metroid Prime had Meta Ridley and then Metroid Prime. Here it is just Sylux. 
The game was good overall though, I don't get the hate. In the end about on par with Metroid Prime 2 for me. The fetch quest was easy not sure what the complaints were about. 

Moved on to play Pokopia. Usually I don't care about the cozy crafting games but the hype is real.

Got hell is us, been batting back and forth between that and deadzone (and screamer with the missus). Hell is Us is another one that is way better than you might think, and had the gaming discourse been healthy people would have been talking about this game and it would have done way better. It's like disco elysium souls in srebrenica

Played a lot of Donkey Kong today.

The canyon layer is where the game really clicked and picked up in variety and creativity.
Pretty wild that Nintendo decided to build a voxel game engine around Donkey Kong.

I played through MW2019 campaign like most of the rest of steam. It was fine I guess but doesn't hold a candle to the earlier CODs. Feels like the modern mil shooter is ripe for someone to do an actual kick ass campaign again. Maybe current events will inspire them again
