Sex rings like this are not new; in fact, I would almost argue you are begging for them to occur in a society that is built on the commodification of human beings (and they largely have throughout Western society; look into the Founding Father's sex crimes for a sobering time.) I'm not just talking about just slavery either, although the power dynamics involved inevitably color the way in which patriarchy perceives women. I mean the fact that, in a society where the ultimate goal of the highest class to amass capital, you need a continuous labor supply to produce the capital to be acquired in the first place, which inevitably means that people able to bear children- in and of themselves- are a commodity from the jump, or rather their wombs are if you want to be frank.
Our Western systems necessitate that women be made down into these sorts of object-roles where their humanity is secondary to the value with which they can provide the men who currently rule over society, not just in being the key to a perpetual supply of labor but also with regards to sexual gratification. Coupled along with the isolating specialization of capitalism, where any and every task or end can be broken down into a soul-crushing assembly line, a step-by-step process, a little guidebook, then it's no wonder that thousands of freakshow men whom've nonetheless been trained by this society would take it upon themselves to build an online network where you can just drug the most easily-accessible women out there for your own pleasure- their own partners- in just a few clicks and emails.
In this vain, this ways in which we see misogyny, specifically the type of ownership some men feel they have over women, be carried out in all its forms becomes quite obvious in its diagnosis. It's not just these kinds of sex crimes either. For example, when conservatives freak out over some ethnic minority assaulting a white woman while simultaneously staying silent on the extremely high amounts of abuse that occurs in law enforcement homes compared to the general population, the conclusion to make is that it's not the assault to the woman's autonomy that was the issue but rather that the person doing the assault was of a lower class, that someone was making use of property that didn't belong to them. The whole fervor around trans women (and trans women specifically; trans men don't get the same amount of fear-mongering) is because the very idea of "men wanting to be women" is a straight obliteration of these arbitrary albeit harmful social norms; the very idea of a "man" expressing a "preference" for feminization, of wanting to essentially become an object and not a full human like cis men are, is an offense of the highest order. You might as well want to become a dog.
It goes on and on, but this is not a "feature of humanity." This is what happens when you live in an environment where humans are objects. The hope lies in the fact that, as humans, we have the ability to change our environment to our will and we can build a society where the oppressed become full humans. Shit like what happened to Gisèle and the other victims can be drastically eliminated, but that process must begin with an understanding that this behavior has an addressable source. If all you're going to do is throw your hands up and say "humanity/the Internet was a mistake," as if this is just normal or a force of nature that we cannot control, then you are all but ensuring there will be more Gisèles in the future.

I'd love to hear about a non-western system that isn't sexist. By the way in India men started protesting because they're making marital rape illegal.
Not like the west is perfect in any way but isn't it still a fact that things like equal rights are usually introduced in the west first?

Seriously? He's been consistent his whole career in not following the trends and not caring what anyone else is doing. You just have to look at Nintendo's many misses over the years to see that.
His philosophy is all over Nintendo. Don't follow the pack, do something original, gameplay first.
If anyone is acting like a 10 year old, it's you with your constant console wars bullshit.
Nintendies, not even once:
Bjomesphat wrote:I think the Mario Galaxy movie succeeds where most Hollywood animated movies fail. Galaxy isn't afraid to be a dumb, fun, roller coaster ride emulating an experience you can only get in the games, but on the big screen. It's also unashamedly Mario in every way. Something the first movie failed at, imo.
Every other animated movie is the same tired plot structure, same tired themes, same tired jokes, etc. Pixar, Dreamworks, Disney, Illumination, Sony, they're all basically the same. It's just some of them are more successful at the formula than others. But they do all follow the same "family movie" formula. Maybe on paper Galaxy isn't better than a lot of it's contemporaries, but it's different enough, and honest enough about what it's trying to be, that I was far more entertained than most other animated movies.
I think a good example of what I'm trying to convey is this. Every other studio would have had some kind of redemption or introspection from Bowser, culminating in a touching moment between him and Bowser Jr, or at least him and the Mario crew. But no, the games have you fight Bowser and throw him in lava so that's what we're doing in the movie. I really don't need to see another animated movie with surface level themes and formulaic arcs. Until there's a huge paradigm shift in the industry, just give me the spectacle.
Though I should say, the spectacle in this case only works because of it's history in the gaming medium, and it being an IP with deep roots. It probably doesn't work outside of that context, hence the critical response.
