Entertainment is INCREDIBLY fractured, and many entertainment businesses aren't "soaring high" and expenses are gate keeping a lot of people right now. But again, Chalamet being one of the lucky few in his position (especially compared to how many B, C, D-lister or unknown actors and theatre actors there are) just comes off as smug.

It's why a lot of actors hated his comment too, since a bunch love taking a break from Hollywood to do Broadway (or indeed, visual arts and musical arts). It's really not just about what's popular, and that's why his statement is (at the very least) boring and simplistic

Sex rings like this are not new; in fact, I would almost argue you are begging for them to occur in a society that is built on the commodification of human beings (and they largely have throughout Western society; look into the Founding Father's sex crimes for a sobering time.) I'm not just talking about just slavery either

Uh, what Founding Fathers had sex rings? The thing everyone refuses to acknowledge about the Sally Hemmings case is that it was clearly consensual between a widower and his closest female companion.

You really don't understand the Slave Power culture and white supremacy of the era if you think it was "acceptable" for masters to freely rape their slaves. You think just because they wouldn't be legally prosecuted for it that it was fine, even though having relations with Black women could end your career. The racism actually mattered to the culture, it wasn't a cynical throwaway like you treat it. That's why they had to hide the offspring and deny it. The most famous case of a Southern politician that raped his slaves also sexually assaulted his white family members.

It's far more likely that it was the overseers and hired hands who were any rapists, especially because often their demonstrated power over the slaves was what got them work. Most plantation owners never interacted with the field slaves and many were absentee owners, especially politicians who would be away for most of the year.

I mean the fact that, in a society where the ultimate goal of the highest class to amass capital, you need a continuous labor supply to produce the capital to be acquired in the first place, which inevitably means that people able to bear children- in and of themselves- are a commodity from the jump, or rather their wombs are if you want to be frank.

Our Western systems necessitate that women be made down into these sorts of object-roles where their humanity is secondary to the value with which they can provide the men who currently rule over society, not just in being the key to a perpetual supply of labor but also with regards to sexual gratification. Coupled along with the isolating specialization of capitalism, where any and every task or end can be broken down into a soul-crushing assembly line, a step-by-step process, a little guidebook, then it's no wonder that thousands of freakshow men whom've nonetheless been trained by this society would take it upon themselves to build an online network where you can just drug the most easily-accessible women out there for your own pleasure- their own partners- in just a few clicks and emails.

I thought you said this wasn't new? Now you claim its result of a very modern society under a century old? In this vain, this ways in which we see misogyny, specifically the type of ownership some men feel they have over women, be carried out in all its forms becomes quite obvious in its diagnosis.

For example, when conservatives freak out over some ethnic minority assaulting a white woman while simultaneously staying silent on the extremely high amounts of abuse that occurs in law enforcement homes compared to the general population, the conclusion to make is that it's not the assault to the woman's autonomy that was the issue but rather that the person doing the assault was of a lower class, that someone was making use of property that didn't belong to them.

Or maybe it's because the former is public and overly violent?

The whole fervor around trans women (and trans women specifically; trans men don't get the same amount of fear-mongering) is because the very idea of "men wanting to be women" is a straight obliteration of these arbitrary albeit harmful social norms; the very idea of a "man" expressing a "preference" for feminization, of wanting to essentially become an object and not a full human like cis men are, is an offense of the highest order. Miyamoto was a revolutionary game designer and basically ushered in a new era of gaming. Maybe this movie is a catalyst for the same thing to happen in cinema. There's always a lot of pushback to industry-changing products initially until they're more widely appreciated and adopted, especially amongst the "professionals" and "critics."

What's revolutionary about this movie though? Plotless and characterless movies have been around as long as movies. If Miyamoto even had anything to do with this movie, he's not deconstructing anything. Go look at Michael Bay's box office sometime to see somebody who has made billions making "plain fun" licensed movies. Or hell, much of the MCU. Do you even realize how much of the yearly slate is mindless romance films? Have you ever seen the Hallmark Channel? (Or even better, get some perspective and go look at what the studios were churning out back when they were mass assembly lines that made hundreds of films a year.)

I've actually gotten homeless due to my parents abusing their authority and stealing all my savings (over 15K) and threatening my life with a firearm. How come no one seems to care about anyone? I just have to "man up and get a new job where I moved" or "they are your parents, they had you born, be grateful and moved on" as if I asked for it. Even a police officer told me to move on. The industry should definitely set up their product pipelines to heavily incorporate LLMs, that way when Google significantly crank their prices because AI is an unsustainable disaster they'll all be locked in to the Google ecosystem.
