When you really think about it, all movies are a scam. You've contributed all your life in ways that help a movie industry to exist. You've contributed in other ways to help insure that all the actors and directors and executives have an infrastructure that allows them to have careers not just in movies but by providing education, food, roads, electricity, etc. Then despite all that they expect you to pay AGAIN to see their movie. And you don't get paid anything for any of this emotional labor. Total scam. The contradictions of capitalism, colonialism and white supremacy laid bare yet again.

they're also inherently a form of misinformation, the events being shown in films didn't even really happen the way they're being shown even in a biopic, and don't even get me started on fantasy films

what if someone actually believes that star wars took place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, and this contributes to a faulty worldview? there's no disclaimer stating that this is an intentional falsehood to frame the fiction

Localisation/direct translation is an age old debate in all translation circles across all industries. Even mundane government information sheets have this debate.

I'm saying that just by looking at the lines as they were translated in every language, there doesn't seem to have been much debate here, everyone was in agreement of what the lines should be except english going out of its way to be massively different

almost feels like a form of elitist exceptionalism, "hmm, no, all you other languages who just boringly translated the line directly across...shame on you, you've failed to capture the spirit of the text! but I know best..."

Well, I think it's time I take my leave, too.

For many years, I was but a forum lurker. I started on NeoGAF during early NX speculation, then jumped ship to ResetEra, then began following the exploits of the Nintendo community there. When they jumped ship, I joined them here, on Famiboards, but no longer would I be on the sidelines. Now I was member #200. I got to embrace my persona as the community's self-proclaimed #1 Super Mario fan. I joined in on the discussion and on the shitposts. I joined moderation, burned myself out, then got pulled back from the brink with one hell of a threadgame. I found friends, I found kindred spirits, I found myself.

And...I found love. First I knew you as that shitposter with a Rosalina icon from Era. Then you were a friend I casually talked to here and there, one I was excited to be in circles with. Then I realized just how deeply you cared, how earnest you were, how much we felt aligned. You were my go-to person at the start of my transition, then my best friend, and then...well, y'all know how that all went. @Suswave, thank you for changing my life for the better, both then and now. You and umbra are the surprise I never expected. You constantly make my world bigger by reminding me to stay present and focused on the small details that matter. I shine brighter because of y'all, and I love you both so much. 💖 💖 💖

Of course, not everything was joyous. We had our fights, our tensions rose. As a mod, I wondered if I was doing good by the community. Afterward, I saw a lot of the same systemic issues arise. Suswave, @Tangerine_Cookie, and others fought for what they believed this space could be, pouring their all into it. Those same people have been exhausted by it all, in some ways feeling like they caused just as much pain as they tried to prevent. Perhaps I should've fought more in their place. Perhaps this was always how it was gonna go down, and I was riding out what I could post-mod term. Perhaps the systems were just too much. Regardless of why, I don't want to see more friends get ground down.

I wish I could've went out on more of a high note, but I feel...at peace. I've made far too many memories and far too many friends to feel bitter. I see those who continue to try, especially in the aftermath of recent events, and I root for them. I hope Famiboards get to be the space that does right by y'all. Keep on shimmering, gang. 🌟

Okay so I am currently on a calorie deficit diet but this week I am on a regimen of steroids so I am starving my ass off every single day despite the fact that I am eating like normal so today I decided that I was going to have a cheat day.  I went to Taco Bell and I ordered my favorite 3 cheese chicken flatbread and an  Avocado Ranch Chicken Stacker.


BUT


I asked them to substitute the avocado ranch for chipotle sauce. Very simple very basic. I have never done this before because I usually just get a basic bean burrito with chipotle sauce on the side in order to stay under my calorie deficit.


The wanna charge me the .59 for the Chipotle though. I was a little confused and then I tried to clarify hey I don't want the chipotle sauce extra I am trying to substitute the avocado ranch for the Chipotle sauce. They still try to charge me extra anyway. They refuse to just switch them out.


So I just straight up ask them. What is the price of avocado ranch on the side? It's 59 cents. What is the cost of the chipotle sauce on the side? It's 59 cents. So then I say to them so both sauces are the exact same price if I order them on the side but you're telling me that if I try to substitute one for the other on an item I have to be charged extra for it?


"Yes sir."


I just laughed out loud into the drive thru mic and drove away. I ended up getting a breakfast burrito from a local 24/7 spot for more than I would have paid if I had just paid for the extra sauce. It's just $0.59 and I get that but with every other price gouging thing that's going on at the moment for whatever reason this just sent me. It just immediately tilted me. It would have cost them nothing to just switch the sauces out and literally no one anywhere would have noticed. But they just had to try to get that 59 cents anyway. Not only that they had to dig their heels in and refuse to substitute it. Not even a "Okay Not really supposed to do it, but whatever."


And for Taco Bell in particular it's not even stuff like this you used to be able to substitute chips and cheese instead of the cinnamon twists in their box meals, but suddenly out of nowhere they started charging you a 1.50 or whatever if you wanted to do that. I guess they finally realize that nobody wants their fucking cinnamon twists. But it was allowed for the longest time until they caught on to people getting their money's worth and said to themselves well that can't happen and changed it. They also had a chicken and rice burrito until recently that was called the chicken enchilada burrito that was 2.49 and it was fantastic, but they got rid of it. Now if I wanted to order the exact same thing that I used to get for 2.49 just a week before it would cost me $4 today basically. Which once again is not insane or unreasonable, but it's more the principle of it all I guess.


Is anyone else getting really sick and fucking tired of these nickel and dime bullshit little loopholes that fast food places and other restaurants are pulling these days? It just feels like I am getting squeezed from every single solitary possible Direction until I just have no juice left.

I know that is right, I ordered pizza tonight and I swear the delivery fee creeps up everytime

I haven't had pizza in over 2 months because of the diet, but even before then I would maybe only have pizza once a month because of how absolutely outrageous the pricing has become. I can understand the price increases on a lot of different food items and whatnot, but there is literally no fucking excuse for two large cheese pizzas and six wings costing me $45 to be delivered to my door.


I remember when I used to be able to get that exact same order from the exact same chain for just 25 or $30.

This is why I think it's time to retire putting causes in the title. I totally see why we should add something for Afghanistan and Lebanon, but it's also been pointed out to me that Stop Asian Hate only ever appeared in one spoiler section in one Nintendo OT (which is honestly kinda weird, given Nintendo is itself a Japanese company). Meanwhile, Black Lives Matter got the thread title once, but nothing was actually written about BLM in that OT. Also, as has been mentioned before, it seems somewhat flippant to include these important causes as an afterthought to very dumb punny titles

Just get rid of everything from the title. You can't keep adding causes. Put all that stuff in the OP.

I feel like if something significant happens and the site isn't doing a good job with the topic, that absolutely warrants a title. But otherwise we're kind of juggling a bunch of important topics and trying to create a hierarchy of crucial issues to decide what gets title billing and what doesn't.

I want violence against trans people to end. I want stupid-ass legislation that literally kills trans kids to end. I want to scream it from the rooftops every day. But I also want the disastrous US military occupation of Afghanistan and the Taliban, which they created and empowered, to be held to the piercing light of justice. I want everyone to know how many god-awful "open secrets" there are in every company about shithead bros fueling and participating in rape culture, how many women and non-binary people have their lives destroyed because of it, and I want those pillars reinforcing it through this world torn down. A fire burns in me that can never go out and every day I rage against each terrible thing that rails against the myth of human decency.

it's not that liking it or wanting it is problematic. It's that the game itself is a bit problematic, and Terry Crews has been very problematic, and the last thread started off with no Trans Rights in the title plus a whole bunch of Terry-Crews specific Mother 3 hype.

Double standards all over the place.
Cyberpunk is banned but Persona is not. So much for trans rights.

Boycotting Microsoft is (rightfully I should add) encouraged but Valve/Steam with their rampant racism and far-right extremism isn't.

The community also forgets why it migrated from Resetera and actually has users posting on the latter.

Run by Corrupt Individuals, Forum is a Scam
A forum that appears to be related to video game news. However, it is affected by corrupt individuals who censor users who sign up to the site and post. They censor and even go so far as to ban individuals who they simply disagree with.

For these reasons, the comments that remain after the censorship cannot be thought of as an all-sides community discussion, but rather as the posts that site admins agreed with. 1/5.

Well, I think it's time I take my leave, too.

For many years, I was but a forum lurker. I started on NeoGAF during early NX speculation, then jumped ship to ResetEra, then began following the exploits of the Nintendo community there. When they jumped ship, I joined them here, on Famiboards, but no longer would I be on the sidelines. Now I was member #200. I got to embrace my persona as the community's self-proclaimed #1 Super Mario fan. I joined in on the discussion and on the shitposts. I joined moderation, burned myself out, then got pulled back from the brink with one hell of a threadgame. I found friends, I found kindred spirits, I found myself.

And...I found love. First I knew you as that shitposter with a Rosalina icon from Era. Then you were a friend I casually talked to here and there, one I was excited to be in circles with. Then I realized just how deeply you cared, how earnest you were, how much we felt aligned. You were my go-to person at the start of my transition, then my best friend, and then...well, y'all know how that all went. @Suswave, thank you for changing my life for the better, both then and now. You and umbra are the surprise I never expected. You constantly make my world bigger by reminding me to stay present and focused on the small details that matter. I shine brighter because of y'all, and I love you both so much. 💖 💖 💖

Of course, not everything was joyous. We had our fights, our tensions rose. As a mod, I wondered if I was doing good by the community. Afterward, I saw a lot of the same systemic issues arise. Suswave, @Tangerine_Cookie, and others fought for what they believed this space could be, pouring their all into it. Those same people have been exhausted by it all, in some ways feeling like they caused just as much pain as they tried to prevent. Perhaps I should've fought more in their place. Perhaps this was always how it was gonna go down, and I was riding out what I could post-mod term. Perhaps the systems were just too much. Regardless of why, I don't want to see more friends get ground down.

I wish I could've went out on more of a high note, but I feel...at peace. I've made far too many memories and far too many friends to feel bitter. This is why I think it's time to retire putting causes in the title. I totally see why we should add something for Afghanistan and Lebanon, but it's also been pointed out to me that Stop Asian Hate only ever appeared in one spoiler section in one Nintendo OT (which is honestly kinda weird, given Nintendo is itself a Japanese company). Meanwhile, Black Lives Matter got the thread title once, but nothing was actually written about BLM in that OT. Also, as has been mentioned before, it seems somewhat flippant to include these important causes as an afterthought to very dumb punny titles

Just get rid of everything from the title. You can't keep adding causes. Put all that stuff in the OP.

I feel like if something significant happens and the site isn't doing a good job with the topic, that absolutely warrants a title. But otherwise we're kind of juggling a bunch of important topics and trying to create a hierarchy of crucial issues to decide what gets title billing and what doesn't.

I want violence against trans people to end. I want stupid-ass legislation that literally kills trans kids to end. I want to scream it from the rooftops every day. But I also want the disastrous US military occupation of Afghanistan and the Taliban, which they created and empowered, to be held to the piercing light of justice. I want everyone to know how many god-awful "open secrets" there are in every company about shithead bros fueling and participating in rape culture, how many women and non-binary people have their lives destroyed because of it, and I want those pillars reinforcing it through this world torn down. A fire burns in me that can never go out and every day I rage against each terrible thing that rails against the myth of human decency.

look. even if my argument is compelling, there's no way I can be the clearest voice on this.

seeing that just one thread gives a shit about trans people could literally be saving someone's life right now

Or even at least the OP? Not to gang up here, and I know last time that I -- not a monolith -- said I would be okay with it not always being in the title. But having all reference to it removed feels kind of uncomfortable when the rest of the board can be unwelcoming, intentionally or not.

it's not that liking it or wanting it is problematic. It's that the game itself is a bit problematic, and Terry Crews has been very problematic, and the last thread started off with no Trans Rights in the title plus a whole bunch of Terry-Crews specific Mother 3 hype.
