I'm going to be honest, while I'm glad that the thread was finally locked, I'm honestly a bit uncomfortable that a thread that used a derogatory term used to fetishize and put down trans and intersex people (especially one used as a joke) lasted so long; and that so many people in ERA were okay with it and taking part in it with not much care about the awful nature of the term. Like that really felt like it showed what many people in ERA really think of trans people, a joke, fetish material, that shitty terms against us are okay to use as a joke.

I really wish their was ways to report threads without having to enter threads because I really didn't want to enter it because I knew how bad it'd be and yeah, it was bad.

One of those threads where it didn't take long for it to become apparent that most of the people laughing were cis men and the joke went from 'guy doesn't realise he's referenced futanari' to just finding the idea of trans bodies either gross or funny.

Oh for crying out loud. All they do is complain everything isn’t centered around them.

I am not a pet owner, don't care for dogs (or cats), but have been around discussions about dogs and particularly pit bulls. And I can see it from PhilosyNoir's perspective.

When it's useful or "cute" behaviors that are bred into dogs, that often show up in puppies which are very young and could never have been trained, nobody denies that it's a thing. Heelers, pointers, herding breeds, etc.
When it's dangerous dogs that were bred to fight/kill prey, suddenly that's "a matter of training."

It doesn't matter how well-trained your dog is. It only takes *a moment* of it getting "over-excited" or "scared" for its instincts/prey-drive to kick in. "It's never like that - it just snapped!"
And if it's a dangerous breed, there can be deadly/life-altering consequences.
Especially when a lot of owners of these breeds are not built to handle them. You see small women walking these dogs on thin leashes - and they would get pulled over/dragged around if that dog actually wanted to chase after something, rather than being able to restrain it.

Many owners do not even understand their dog's own behaviors and think a pitbull that is acting possessive, is being "very protective" of a baby or other small animal in its vicinity when it's showing aggression towards the owner for getting near. "Oh look, it's smiling."
I will not stand for people trying to make "cute pibbles" a thing on social media.

Ownership and breeding of these dogs should be outlawed.
If you've ever seen the aftermath of one of these attacks, you wouldn't question it.
Ask yourself why people *want* to own a dog breed that is capable of mauling/killing a person - even if you believe that "the right training" is enough to keep them under control. It shouldn't be a thing.

"domestication" is not a binary on/off switch, as if once a dog is officially "domesticated" it is magically different from wild animals and must be treated as good by default

it is a sliding scale like any other and it would be quite simple to declare that the level of violent incidents involving pitbulls and variants means they should be treated as if they are on the other side of domestication and not valid as pets

it's also not an answer because there are tons of animals which aren't "domesticated" which we still consider safe to have as pets, like fish or ant farms

Domestication takes thousands of years. Dogs and cats are biologically and behavioral changed from their ancestors. And this without mentioning when human discovered eugenics on animals.

Obviously, dogs are still animals and there are species the dogs more dangerous than others… because they were designed to be this way by humans. Again, not saying they aren’t dangerous (or dogs are “good” by default), but that your example was flawed.

I feel like it's a reoccurring problem here of people making threads that either intentionally or unintentionally turn into boys clubs that make crude and strange jokes. It's why I've always hated the end of year pornhub threads that get posted every single time that usually devolve into a bunch of dudes making jokes about porn. Makes it less fun to participate in the forum.

The "are you a white cishet guy or are you a porn category?" saying still lives rent free in my head, and even this forum reminds me of it at times.

agreed with all of you. i laughed at first b/c it was funny on its face, especially the "does he know" reaction image type shit but holy fuck it immediately spiraled into mockery of the idea of bodies like that.

Glad I'm not the only one who felt weird about it. Even in ostensibly queer-friendly spaces, I sometimes get the feeling that people are just keeping their transphobia under wraps until they can find an acceptable outlet for it.

My friend had a rescue dog that blatantly didn't trust women. We basically came to the conclusion after knowing him for a little while that his previous owner must have been a woman who deeply mistreated him, because he would be really calm and nice around both him and me but the SECOND his girlfriend or any other woman was in the room he immediately pivoted into a completely defensive, "someone's gonna hurt me" mode. You could even see his muscles clench up the moment he could smell her. The poor thing was just deeply emotionally broken and it haunted him for the rest of his life.

It feels like all of the worst aspects of a poodle and a golden slammed together into one dog. I don't know why my family was so dedicated to getting one; we've only ever had goldens and a golden/pyrenees mix up until this point and they've all largely been pretty chill, generally low-maintenance animals. This one has two modes: asleep or "I'm gonna have/give you a panic attack" with no middle ground.

I really hope he ages out of this because if he doesn't I'm gonna lose my mind and the cats are going to hate living in this house for his entire life.

I wish my family did research on goldendoodle temperament before they decided they HAD to get one and outvoted me when I said I didn't want one. This puppy makes me want to scream.

The part that's honestly so stressful about dog ownership is that you just don't know until you know. You have no way of knowing if a dog has the capacity to go completely apeshit until it does it. Any breed can snap, there are just some breeds that are more dangerous as a baseline when they do.

We have a new goldendoodle puppy right now (3 and a half months, I think?) and he's so energetic and aggressive (and so prone to catastrophic separation anxiety meltdowns) that I am constantly terrified he's going to flip out one day and rip our cats to shreds. Thankfully the cats hate him and basically avoid him at all times because they blatantly do not trust his behavior patterns, but the entire reason we got a dog in the first place was to get a playmate for our younger cat to make him stop harassing our older cat. So now we have an asshole puppy and a kitten who thinks his 6-year-old older sister who's recovering from heart failure wants to wrestle all the time (she does not). Instead of solving the kitten's energy problem we've multiplied it.

My stress levels have a floor of 4/10 right now because I just can't feel any degree of calm with this idiot in the house.

Exactly. I remember seeing something somewhere that Golden Retrievers, of all breeds, have one of the highest per-capita bite rates (largely contributed to by their sheer popularity and the tendency of families with kids to get them), but due to the fact that their jaws aren't built the same way as a Rott or a Pit, the chances of serious injury are vastly, vastly lower. Goldens also (typically) don't have the temperament that makes them absolutely lock in when they bite.

That being said, even a golden can be dangerous. We had one when I was a college student that flat-out killed another dog. So even "nice" dogs can be dangerous.
