Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's wife, Begoña Gómez, has been charged with corruption after a two-year criminal investigation, according to a court ruling.

Gómez is accused of using her relationship to advance her private career through a position at Madrid's Complutense University. She is also accused of using public resources to advance private interests.

She was charged with embezzlement, influence peddling, corruption in business dealings and misappropriation of funds, the ruling said. It is now up to the courts to decide whether she will stand trial.

Gómez denies the charges, while Sánchez has dismissed the allegations as an attempt by the right-wing to undermine his coalition.

A self-declared King of Switzerland has sparked outrage among politicians after exploiting a legal loophole to seize 117,000sq metres of land for free.

Jonas Lauwiner, 31, has built what he describes as an 'empire' by claiming 148 ownerless plots of land scattered across Switzerland - including roads now used by homeowners.

The haul, acquired entirely legally, includes 83 stretches of road, giving him significant leverage over local communities and prompting several Swiss cantons to move to tighten rules amid fears others could copy him.

Under Swiss law, land officially registered as ownerless can be claimed free of charge simply by writing to the local council.

Such plots are rare and often consist of abandoned roads, small forest areas or land rejected during inheritance disputes.

But Lauwiner, who crowned himself 'King' when he was just 24, realised the obscure rule could be turned into a property business after painstakingly combing through land registries.

One road he acquired on a housing estate had reportedly been abandoned by a developer. He now charges maintenance fees to residents who use it. 

He told Times Radio: 'I am fair. I don't shut the roads, and I do not charge much for them'.

As well as maintenance fees, he said he profits 'by selling the right to construct near my road, and I sell the right of passage if there is a new house'.

Lauwiner compared his acquisitions to a 'military campaign', adding: 'I do it digitally and without bloodshed'.

Schuler claimed Lauwiner offered to transfer the road to the council for free only if it was renamed after him.

Otherwise, he allegedly demanded around £140,700 for the road.

The councillor accused him of having 'an excessive thirst for power and an exacerbated need to put himself forward'.

My boss brought up professor Jiang again. I love my boss. He genuinely makes it so that I can spend all day learning guitar and boreposting. But this guy stops me at lunch on Wednesdays and asks me about professor jiang and I can't offend him while also wanting to guide him for the good of my career and earth. What's even crazier is he's some like, nigerian chief's grandson from a farm with a philosophy degree. Properly entertaining overall.

I agree with some of his theories but not all. I think he misses the fact how the fronts in Iran, Ukraine and a potential civil war in Georgia or alliance between Moldavia, Hungary and Ukraine can be easily linked.

The US is backing out of Europe, Germany and France prefer a short term deal with Putin or a new leader in Russia over a prolonged conflict without US support. Which means the smaller former eastern block nations will need a new deterrence against Russia and will ally themselves with Ukraine. Just as Ukraine is allied with the gulf states against Iran.

The only way for Moscow to improve their current situation is to start winning wars and bring home loot. They might start more wars or annex Belarus just for that purpose.
