I know it's kind of a self-centred thing to say and I'm sorry this is the place where I do this but I always hated myself. I don't know when it started, even as a little kid, way before I actually got bullied in middle school, I thought something is seriously wrong with me. That I need to hide my needs, my thoughts and what I like.

Most people who know me in RL would probably say I'm an extrovert who is bad at reading the room and at knowing when there is enough lexony. I know people think I'm naive because I can see the positive in almost anything and will speak before I think. Some might conclude these are the obvious traits of someone who had a hard time growing up and just wants to be part of everything, but most probably just see a really insecure guy. Someone you feel bad for, you can be friendly with and have smalltalk, but better not get too close.

The easy answer would be to just "be myself", but I honestly don't know who I even am.

Somehow I was able to put up with it all this time, but right now it's affecting my life at every step I take. I have to change. I already accepted I will keep being my biggest enemy and never actually like myself, but I think I realise now I've to finally bring me in a state where I can at least tolerate me.

first and foremost I blame your family, because so much of the shit we can't remember informs us, and those who raise us lay a lot of foul groundwork whether they mean to or not. I know I felt fundamentally wrong in many ways, but I was often given space enough as a young child for it not to be something I loathed myself for. that changed later when my mom got a lot worse towards me, but even through all of that, having slightly more baseline let me recognize that she was being pretty fucking awful.

not that it helped much; I still carry so many of those scars.

but — I did spend a great deal of my life disassociated from myself. feeling like even if I forced a persona I wasn't entirely clear on what the "me" of it was, etc. and that felt hollow. I kind of thought that would just be my life.

at some point, I realized I was trans. through some sad shit, actually. but even then, I was fine taking my time and I was doing well enough with who I thought I was. even knowing that, I could sideline it for "just getting through" and protecting myself from a place I hated that already hated me.

but the real reason I ask... is because a lot of those feelings are very familiar. and I'm sure we share a lot of root causes, trans or not.

Even if all your problems are your parents fault (and they probably aren't if you're like most Era posters) this is the exact opposite of being and accepting yourself. This guy coming to the conclusion that his parents broke him or that his gender is just wrong because one thing men aren't known for is being distant is moving him away from the acceptance he's already pursuing. It's not accepting yourself to insist you're perfect and any flaws are imposed on you. It's not accepting yourself by deciding there's a "persona" or "role" you must fit and everything falls away.

And for the record, standard psychology would probably suspect it's the opposite, the parents were too protective and so the child struggled to figure out that baseline and now overthinks trying to find the boundaries and has excessive self-doubt about how much others are actually weighing these things. If lexony asked other people these questions what would they say? He fears they'd agree with his self-picture but how likely is that? It's probably unlikely or they wouldn't choose to associate with him. Notice how he squares the logic by thinking others must feel bad for him. The Kentucky Derby was yesterday. It seems it's gotten more fancy of late with social media. I've never been a horse racing fan. Seems like a sports stuck in the past.

My big issue is how horses are treated during their training. Moreover, this is something I recently learned, apparently horses are some of the most fragile animals ever. If a horse breaks one leg, they're basically done. It has to do with both their weight and physiology. One leg broken and that's additional weight on their other legs. A grown horse can be up to 2000 pounds. Racing horses 900 to 1100 pounds. So that's a lot of weight on only 3 legs.

And apparently horses have a unique physiology that unless they're standing, everything goes to hell. They get organ failure and all sorts of things and this happens very quickly. So they're usually euthanized when this happens.

One horse was broke her leg in last year's derby's and she was euthanized on the spot.

Apparently, some evolutionary biologists think horses would've been extinct if we didn't domesticate them. All modern wild horses colonies are usually descendants of domestic horses as well.
