When I was still reviewing games professionally, my scoring system was basically giving recommendations for the kinds reasons why you might buy/rent/skip a particular game, as well as my own general wrap-up feelings on the game.

I just don't think reviews NEED to be contextual or need to be comparative or ranked. Reviews should just be about the game itself, not some crazy metafictional layer we use to convince ourselves one game is better than a different one.

But that's what is fucked up about how most Mixtape detractors from the Global North are treating this whole deal. If you ask 10 different people who were teenagers in that time period across the USA, you'd probably get different references of music and whatnot. It's entirely fine to say "this is not how my teenage years were", but saying "this isn't representative of teens, therefore it's wrong", as I've seen here and there, is an absolutely shit hill to die on.

And about adding older songs (Devo, Roxy Music, etc...), slamming that only shows how some people are likelier to go spelunking on their modern favorite bands' references. Listening to the Smashing Pumpkins made me dive deeper into Black Sabbath, Bowie, and My Bloody Valentine. That experience is just as valid, even if it wasn't the Mixtape detractors' experience.

Also, this whole deal reeks of ageism.

This is always a funny claim, especially from people who don't offer this grace to anyone they've written off over a single slight, because it dismisses the possibility that the more you pay attention the worse your opinion would get. Hasan's Nazi Site account is bad enough. All the puff pieces make him look stupid. Actually watching his streams for some time will just confirm how dumb he is:


Yet their defenses of him isn't that he's entertaining or that he has his finger on the pulse of a niche population, instead they want to defend him as some kind of intellectual and historically great political thinker. At the same time they also want to deny his probably daily calls for violence or saying that the ideal for America is that it should become a totalitarian police state. They, and he, rush to claim this is just humor you don't get when he's clearly earnest and his sole principle is that people he doesn't like should receive violence and people he likes should receive the proceeds of their victims labor.
