‘It’s not been enough to carry the day’: Why the Victoria’s Secret rebrand is over

Quote:The American lingerie chain has spent the last two years overhauling its hyper-sexualized image in a bid to regain cultural relevance and win back young consumers who preferred more on-trend upstarts like Savage X Fenty and Parade.

There were some successes, including a campaign to launch the “new” Victoria’s Secret featuring soccer player Megan Rapinoe, transgender model Valentina Sampaio and other spokesmodels, but favorable reviews from online critics never translated into sales: the brand is projecting revenue of $6.2 billion this fiscal year, down about 5% from the previous year and well below the $7.5 billion from 2020.

I often think about that quote from Henry Ford: "If I asked the people what they wanted they would've said faster horses" or something like that.

A lot of companies steer blindly on what their focus groups tells them or what is trending in the media.
Very few companies stay the course (Nintendo, Nvidia, LEGO etc.) but those end up being the most succesful in the long run.

LEGO was nearly bankrupt chasing LEGO video games because that's what the kids wanted but they realized later that the kids wanted video game LEGO even more.
Nintendo could've doubled down on mobile gaming as everyone told them to but instead they used mobile technology to deliver the antithesis of mobile gaming by simply consistently delivering much better games.

Everyone screamed at Nvidia to deliver low-cost / mid-performance GPUs but instead they equipped their cards with insane AI features and made their 'professional' production GPUs capable gaming GPUs as well. Creating a new high-end segment that AMD could never compete in and becoming the #1 AI company in the world because no market moves as fast as video games.

People aren't ready for the conversation but in hindsight Rumsfeld was right all the way back in 1989.
The wall fell and NATO "won" and all the former secretaries of defense gathered a roundtable to think about the next steps. And Rumsfeld hit the nail on the head.

“Who do we want to provide leadership in the world?” “Somebody else?”

Starting with Obama the US and EU stopped to provide leadership and the signal that it was Joever was the messy pull out from Kabul. The result of not providing leadership has been terrible. Instead of a stable world economy, global security and growing wealth all we got is chaos and marxist infiltration in the form of woke and trans ideologies. Saudi Arabia talks about becoming the "new Europe". Do we really want a world that is led by the Saudis, Russians, Chinese? Do we like what we're seeing so far when we decide not to act?

Germany counted on Russian energy, Armenia counted on Russian security, Africa counted on Chinese investments, Israel counted on Saudi diplomacy. It got them nowhere.
In that sense Trump was on the right track, trying to broker peace between Israel and the Arabs, keep enemies like Iran in check, crafting stronger ties with Poland and other Allies, making NATO energy independent, and engaging with North Korea.

Our enemies feast on our "restraint"

Invasion isn't necessary either. Just a few missiles and bombs to send them back to whatever shitholes they crawl out of should be enough.

We should know the success of failure of this policy in a few years. Don't jump to conclusions I guess.

I wonder if these recent anti-israel protests in Germany will cause a cultural shift. Right wing is basically going "I told you so" while even politicians from the refugee friendly Green party talk about deporting Hamas sympathizers

In the Netherlands the press is very pro-Hamas. Just frothing at the mouth about the hospital story still looking for ways to blame Israel. Folks were waving a Taliban flag in the city of Utrecht unchallenged today. The Green/Labour coalition has announced they regret backing a motion that condemned the terrorist attacks earlier this week.

At this point political parties are about 50/50 split between pro-Hamas and pro-Israel. I would say. Some more vocal than others and for different reasons. The elections are in a month, I've got a feeling we're either going to turn hard right and Wilders will defy expectations or hard left and Timmermans wins. It doesn't help that for many candidates this is personal. Our current justice minister and leader of the ruling party is a Turkish Kurd that hates the Islamists. The Green/Labour coalition has a lot of self-declared Salafists and left-wing activists in their ranks. Wilders has been the anti-Islam and pro-Israel voice for a long time.

Honestly, between images of Israeli tanks rampaging through Gaza and bombed out buildings, the MSM only focusing on Timmermans and the left promising a higher minimum wage I can see Timmermans win. His diplomatic background and EU postings certainly give him an edge on this topic. People who wouldn't vote for him over not backing Israel enough, wouldn't have voted for him anyway. I dislike everything he stands for but I have to admit he's a skilled politician and campaigner.

The big difference between Germany and the Netherlands is of course the history of WW2. To not upset the Muslims too much the history of the Holocaust hasn't been taught to current generations like before. The focus has been more on slavery and white guilt. Even the Holocaust remembrance days have been hijacked by messages about the climate, LGTBQ+ rights and various other conflicts and wars, including the Indonesian war of independence.

It continues to spiral out of control. The police is very heavy handed against the protestors but already hundreds of civil servants working at the highest levels of government have signed a petition calling on our government to end their 'unconditional' support for Israel, do everything to stop the 'excessive violence' of the Israeli 'regime' and stop being complicit in carrying out Israeli war crimes.

Various pro-Hamas groups are planning to protest at Holocaust memorial sites this weekend.

Strangely people focused on a plush toy (which Greta even apologized for and reuploaded a cropped version of the image) and not that she shared an image from a site that celebrated the massacres

It's totally justified to protest the unrestraint bombing in Gaza by Israel, but man does it seem easy to suddenly lock arms with anti-semites or people who are pro Hamas
