Let's not pretend Volition, DICE, BioWare, etc. didn't all get multiple chances to restore their prestige. Rocksteady is going to get another one despite the Suicide Squad disaster. Bungie, The Initiative, Firewalk, etc. basically didn't release anything by the traditional model, after spending hundreds of millions of dollars over years.

Like, what the fuck are companies supposed to do, throw money at the names of studios even though nobody who built the prestige is still there and the studio is wasting years sucking down massive amounts of resources? I think they really believe that "money people" should just throw money endlessly at studios that don't produce anything. The whole industry should be a charity. (Unless the developers wear the wrong t-shirt or go on the wrong podcast or say anything positive about AI.)

I'm glad PlanetSmasher was YELLING LOUDLY about acquisitions but if Microsoft didn't roll out the charity they did for all those studios they'd be dead too. They're lucky Microsoft borderline doesn't care about their game studios financial performances. You're nuts if you think Bethesda could have ate Redfall and Starfield while taking their sweet time on Elder Scrolls VI if Microsoft hadn't bought them. You think The Coalition and 343i would have been able to waste the time they do without releases under anyone else? 

And this isn't even true, a single bomba has killed companies forever. Haze ended Free Radical. Lair ended Factor 5. Epic Mickey 2 ended Junction Point. APB destroyed Realtime Worlds. Too Human essentially ended Silicon Knights. Darksiders II probably would have ended Vigil even had THQ not gone bankrupt.

Then again, who thought that Redfall was a good idea? Why Todd Howard thought that what Starfield needed is double down on the worst aspects of fallout 4? Why did Jim Ryan overpaid for Bungie when even Microsoft saw them as a potential liability (allegedly)? Why BioWare insisted on making a Destiny like? No one asked for a live service Suicide Squad game. 

A lot of the worst ideas and decisions come from the top. Not saying those studios surviving creatives don’t have responsibility on it, like Bungie or most Microsoft studios during Phil Spencer era demonstrate, but I also don’t think executives don’t have hand on ruining those studios. 

I think the lack of talent retention is probably the bigger sin of the western part of the industry.

Dudes, I friggin loved that Adventures of Elliot demo. The music gets so good. The gameplay is super fun, and it's quite pretty. The princess is a bit "Focus, M" in terms of help, but it's not intolerable. The characters are so far one-dimensional, and a lot of them are just "you're so awesome how you help everyone, I wanna help everyone, too" types, but it's still the beginning. Voice acting is mostly quite good. Loved it. That music (besides the opening town, anyway) is just so good.

It sounds like most of the GAAS aspects were very much a ZeniMax management idea. They were also actively looking for a buyer at that point for the entire company and all the game studios. I don't think they gave a fuck outside of number go up. 

I'm not going to look it up because I'm lazy, but I think Jason Schreieieieieieier mentioned the production was a mess before they were sold off, morale was in the toilet and the devs were hoping MS would shore up leadership and give them better direction. That didn't happen and it was pushed out the door in the shitty state it was.
