Third‑party studios are doing everything they can to cram their games onto the Switch 2, limitations and all, and honestly, kudos to them. They're performing miracles with hardware that was already outdated at the time the Switch 2 was released. But it's hard not to feel like you're playing a stripped‑down version when you have access to any other modern platform. And in many cases, the Switch 2 versions arrive late anyway (see the new James Bond game), meaning you're paying more for a weaker release. The idea that the Switch 2 offers anything close to parity with current‑gen consoles is a fallacy.

But when it comes to visuals, let's be real: Nintendo is the one dropping the ball. Everything we've seen so far looks like high‑resolution of games that could've launched on the original Switch without anyone blinking. There's nothing here that screams "new generation".

Take the "new" Star Fox. I genuinely don't know how anyone is supposed to be blown away by those visuals. Unless you live in a bubble and only play on Nintendo hardware, there's nothing remotely impressive going on. In fact, the attempt at 'realistic' graphics actively works against the series' art style and vibe, which is how we ended up with those uncanny, borderline grotesque character models. And slapping modern visuals onto gameplay and level design that were already painfully basic in 1997? That's… a choice. A questionable one.

And apparently they're gearing up to do the same thing with Ocarina of Time. Of course they are. What a wonderful time to be a Nintendo fan... 🙄

I pray that one day, in a hopefully not too distant future, girls and women, real and fictional, can just fucking exist without people being weird from all sides with hyper sexualising them, or insisting their appearance MUST be sexualised because they're... barefoot. Or wearing makeup, or whatever.

I know most of this forum are guys so many haven't been on the receiving end of it, but do you have any idea just how exhausting this all is? Even if it's from otherwise well meaning people, having to constantly hear about girls/women being sexualised (whether it's perceived or deliberate) is just so, so tiring. Like, just everything about being a girl or woman is sexualised nowadays apparently, even fucking feet. Or it's assumed to be sexual cause female, I guess. It's infuriating.

Obviously there's nuance and layers here, the fact the kid in Pragmata looks like she's wearing makeup (whether that's intentional or not) is undoubtedly thanks to decades worth of ingrained misogyny and/or societal perceptions on women/femininity. You could argue the same thing with, I dunno, Pauline's design in DK Bananza, where it looks like her eyes have eyeliner and/or some other kinds of eye makeup. It may not be "makeup" per se and just part of her design, but that's still because that's what's perceived as being "feminine".

These are things worth critiquing. But instead of simply discussing and critiquing the character design, we have... Whatever the fuck this thread is, and multiple other examples across the internet involving this game. Like how hard is it to not be weird and make claims that people are "telling on themselves" because they don't 100% agree with your perception this character is sexualised or whatever the fuck?

lots of "she wears the bikini armor because it's empowering" energy there. Fictional characters are not real, they are what the devs make them.
