I think it is good that people are incensed about the horrible behaviour in that thread because now at the end of the day this has probably led to a new forum user who only recently joined the forum and was a contributor in a few of our OTs will now have probably left the forum.



We so seldomly get new members in the established OTs and here we had one who even put in the effort to make a OT outside of the small communities and then when people disagreed with their take, they just piled in on them and chased them with pitchforks. It's no wonder many of us do not feel safe to create OTs. If anyone disagrees with your opinion you get eviscerated.



When everything becomes so polarized and people feel they can attack anyone with no repercussions then it is no wonder that many of us older forum users never leave the smaller OTs where at least those communities have an inofficial set of rules for behaviour that people just adhere to and show respect and appreciation for one another.

What? No they don't. It's really quite simple. Males produce sperm (small gametes), females produce eggs (large gametes). Literally the way scientists have always identified the sex of animals, no matter what kind of unusual and unhuman like aspects those animals have. The Platypus has insane chromosomes, instead of just XX or XY they got ten sex chromosomes resulting in: XXXXXXXXXX and XYXYXYXYXY. Doesn't matter. The female produces eggs, the male produces sperm.

That thread went far beyond the usual dog piling and the fact that we have people like you try to justify it just shows how awful the climate has gotten here.

Without going on whether ppl deserve to get dunked on for having a problematic opinion on era, nobody deserves to get more than 5 pages of being dunked on, at that point there's nothing to be learned from that, nothing to show that person is wrong, it's just an attack vector that will emotionally hurt the OP. I did not post on the original thread since the subject did not speak to me, i do not want to know whether Hoyo use of genAi is more ethical than the normal non-ethical use-cases, but reading it now, the OP must have felt like shit having so many ppl going all-in on them without pause.

It's why I'm fine sticking to making/posting OTs for the most part, because for me the most enjoyable aspect of the forum is in the communities that can build within them. It doesn't even need to be ZZZ, where the sentiment around gacha naturally perforates any more general thread made, the vibe of "I really only post in the OT" wasn't uncommon for Destiny either. A number of people who actively played the game didn't want to post outside of it because the discourse was so steeped in negativity. It's become a recurring theme across the OTs, and is part of why I continue to make them. Decent sections of these communities wouldn't start posting elsewhere on the forum without them, they'd just leave.

actually on this note I was talking to an obstinate person who insisted that we have always used pronouns to refer to gender rather than sex for thousands of years (even though it more or less originates with john money in the 1950s), and that if we were to declare we're using them to refer to sex, it would introduce needless complexity

I pointed out that the gender identities of animals is unknowable, which means we are always inherently using it to refer to an animal's sex, and it's so uncomplicated that we've been doing it for the entirety of recorded history

if we are ever wrong, we shrug, correct it and move on, just like we do when we call a dude with long hair ma'am by mistake

I fully believe there is a deep societal rot that comes from misogyny. The fact that the focus in general does seem to be much stronger against trans women and gay men lends credence to this in my eyes (not to say that gay women and trans men aren't also vilified in the world)

What a waste of time, money, and resources

I don't understand how folks continually fall for this boogeyman shit. There's always some nefarious group they set their crosshairs on (minorities, immigrants, LGBTQ+) that's responsible for XYZ, and it's often a group that doesn't even have the raw numbers to cause issues at scale even if they wanted to.

IMO you should be extremely suspicious of any politician or lawmaker that seems to talk an awful lot about what (and especially who) they're against rather than anything they actually stand for. If they can't articulate their beliefs without targeting anyone, that's usually a huge red flag.

A lot of people are...just not smart to put it bluntly, and that very often coincides with being hateful.

A lot of the "how did we get here" reaction I can explain really easy. People said "times have changed " or that we were at the end of history but you never really stopped to examine it. Even as the next fight after this turns away from trans people to restricting the right to abortion, with the exact same actors involved, very few people are going to step back and see that we were the canary in the coal mine. Fewer still are going to see us as people they should hold solidarity with if they want to win their own fights. Allies are going to have to start banging those drums loudly and soon if they want much sympathy when the machine comes for them.

The obsession with trans people is crazy, they are like what , 1% of the population.
