Haven't we already been done this road before with Mods saying they are not banning any more games? Mostly because it is a true head ache and tons of work to go about banning a game from the forum.

That trailer was some of the grossest shit I've seen in my almost 40 years of gaming, much worse than when Hatred was a thing because this is a larger company putting out a trailer of an expensive production at a large media event with millions of viewers which in turn normalizes sexualization of child-looking characters.

Speaking of Stellar Blade 2, I think this is what you're already talking about but I did hate the baby face the new character has... I mean, I like Stellar Blade and I understand if you as a creator want to make a character that makes you horny, ok go ahead, but at least Eve looked like a young adult, mid 20's. Evie looks like a high school girl with ocassional chunky baby expressions, it's a bit much for me.



I'll probably still play it but they're making it more complicated each time, there's no outfit to hide her baby face this time.

I can definitely see how some people just don't notice the sexualization, objectification and infantilization in titles like SB or SB2, these problems are unfortunately just that normalized in media. I'm more concerned with how receptive people are once those issues are pointed out to them.



A lot of the misunderstanding and/or rejection of criticism is based on how normal these issues are alongside people just not understading how these things that they may not be subject to could be a problem when it's not a problem for them. I have a friend who played Stellar Blade and was excited for the sequel, who basically just does not care. While playing the original he pretty much turned a blind eye to the obvious sexism, or just treated it as dumb and laughed at it. Earlier today when I was expressing my discomfort for Stellar Blade 2, he was very notably silent in response and seemed to feel awkward about it.

The last part seems to simply this was a real life conversation. Either online or off, imagine your "friend" suddenly haranguing you about this making clear that he's stewing at you over having played the first.

I don't think it's that they don't see it exactly. I think it's more that they are fine with it, but are indifferent, like it doesn't bother them so they don't get why it's an issue, the "you don't have to play it if you don't enjoy it" mindset. In the case of the person I'm talking about, he doesn't goon to it or anything, he just thinks the ridiculousness is silly and over the top, but doesn't let that influence his enjoyment or decision to buy the game.

Maybe, but I think we also constantly over-estimate how terminally online the average person is. Most people just see the positive reviews, hear the buzz, see it's an action game with pretty graphics and a lady in a skimpy outfit, and they buy it if that sounds cool to them. The folks upset about the game are already complaining about it and not playing it, but the overwhelming majority of those millions of players who buy the game aren't engaging with any of this kinda discourse, following the games and devs on social media, and aren't aware there is any controversy at all. I dunno if the devs being creepier would make any real difference.

The number of players who let their morals, ethics and politics influence their purchases and get mad enough to talk about it online is a tiny fraction of the 1% of the most engaged part of the audience.
