This is getting out of hand. Clicky was banned for irresponsible threadmaking and essentially editorializing. She started the OP with an image of a tweet. A tweet. Then the article literally has a genAI translation disclaimer at the bottom. Which she did not read because she did not read the article period. She fucking admitted that. Such low quality threadmaking around a topic like this is unacceptable. With how heated the discourse around this game already is, we absolutely do not need people pouring gasoline like that. The damage has already been done unfortunately.

If y'all think anyone on staff wants to go to bat for Stellar Blade, you're positively wrong.

This thread largely exists as a space for women to vent but the metacommentary is rapidly getting out of hand.

Also a friendly reminder that us staff our volunteers and do what we can, when we can. We simply do not have the resources to be 100% on top of things. One reason we are understaffed is because we can't get any of you to want to be in our shoes because of situations like this. Think about that.

Half the time they don't even bother throwing around their stat bumps from the progressive stack. Just stamp your feet, get aggressive, insult people and expect them to grovel for your forgiveness. The more passive aggressive you get and make your threats in places where only people who will go to look for them is just more proof of how horrible things are for you. The entire forum should be knowing my personal complaints and taking up arms in my name or else they're showing their whole ass and wow, don't you feel bad that I don't respect you anymore? The staff especially should be seeing my posts and knowing what I'm on about and making clear what they plan to do about it. If not, well, they're just making clear how I'M NOT WANTED. The original ban banner for Clicky was absolutely not clear. It's better now (I reported it yesterday, I was outraged at the ban because the banner made no sense and was inconsistent with other LLM-generated topics I had seen which received no bans), but I wish I had learned about this duration/banner update from a report alert, rather than having confused people discuss it in here and then a mod coming to yell at them all.

Also, it might be worth communicating to the user base that using any kind of source that has LLM involved (from translation help to outright generating the whole text) is bannable, because I didn't know that (as far as I knew, you'd get the thread locked at the most, and even that is only recently that I've seen), and I'm not sure most users know that either. It's not the first time I see such threads be made but it's the first time I see the OP get banned for it.

I don't actually think they're all NPD, though some probably are and could be diagnosed as it like Dr. Nothing Loud if they saw it as a positive stat bump mental disorder to gather like the rest instead of a negative one that would cause them narc injury to be given. Not a single thought given to the entire way in which an individual interacts with social media (including forums) and how the experience appears to them, and why this encourages narcissism even absent nefarious "algorithms" or secret Nazi coders. They're largely ignorant of standard psychology and have no theory of mind so it never crosses their minds, it must instead be some devil somewhere doing evil things to stray us further from His light.

I guess the best solution is to let Shift Up keep talking and promoting the game. If they keep the design unchanged it will erase all benefit of the doubt/good will and then discussions about thread banners or limited threads can happen.

As absurd as it sounds, right now just a character design that looks like a kid and oogled like a sex symbol is not enough to enact any changes.

I think we're placing way too much importance on visual representation and participation of minorities in media without meaningfully tackling the material causes for why minority representation has been so lacking across the history of modern media to begin with, to say nothing of how this focus nonetheless puts white media on a pedestal by presenting assimilation within these properties as the goal without regards to uplifting and engaging in the native work by Africans and the diasporas (Black folks make shit for ourselves; do you, reader, engage in any of it?)

I want to talk briefly about Persona 4, especially in light of the new remake that's just been announced. Typically, progressive criticism of the game focuses on the homophobic and transphobic elements which is understandable, but I think it has meant that the game's misogyny has flown a little under the radar.



What makes Persona 4 an interesting case of the industry's misogyny to me is the fact that the game actually does show a clear awareness of a misogyny and it's a really present theme in the game's storytelling. Two out of the three human antagonists are more or less what we would now recognize as incels, and misogyny is touched on at least a little bit in almost social link with a female character with it getting a particularly big look in with playable characters like Rise and Naoto.



The problem is that the game itself is built on a misogynistic world view so it doesn't actually have anything to say about all this misogyny that permeates the game's storytelling other than that it exists, and that you, the player, are a really cool guy for stepping in to defend your female friends for misogyny. It's an approach to women's problems that treats them as secondary to preserving the game's male power fantasy. You are a cool guy and the defender of women everywhere from the bad men. Please ignore how framing every woman as needing protection or having a dependence on the male insert is itself a form of misogyny.



You can similar ideas coming through even more insidiously when the perversion of characters like Yosuke and Teddie is used to justify many of the fan service scenes in a way that both allows the player to enjoy the fan service (and the overt embarrassment of the female cast) while rendering the player-insert "blameless" for it happening. Funnily enough, all this fan service nonsense where the player character's is able to benefit from his passive non-resistance to the more overt misogyny of Yosuke and Teddie is probably the closet the game actually gets to saying something about misogyny even if it's unintentional.



To make a long story short, the only reasonable message you can take away from Persona 4's (and the Hashino era as a whole really) portrayal of misogyny is that the only thing that can stop a bad misogynist is a good misogynist, and the good misogynists deserve a little treat for not being the bad misogynists.



I find that attitude worth talking about because whatever people's good intentions might be to create progressive spaces, we always seem to end up with this attitude becoming the default. The idea that because someone isn't a raging misogynist complaining about Sweet Baby Inc and woman-led God of War games then they can't have misogynistic biases in other ways, and that they deserve to have a conversation about fetishized depictions of female characters without real woman 
"nagging" them about it.
