From what I saw on Bluesky, while this may be true, the estate is illegitimate and should not be allowed to do this because it's not his mother or something. I didn't keep reading so I'll fill in the rest myself: something something probate courts tools of capitalism something something this is digital slavery.

This part sticks out to me because it's true, but it reminds me of a character that exists in P4 and how her treatment never made sense to me (even accounting for Japan's, imo, weird Christmas-cake mentality).



There's a plotline in P4 revolving around one of the teachers, Kashiwagi, who is overtly sexual (be it in 'subtle' dialogue or her desperation, particularly when paired with her sidekick, Hanako) and it's established that the class doesn't really like her. While there are obvious reasons why her conduct is inappropriate, the way the game frames her through the lens of the cast always bugged me because, in my eyes, it never made sense.



I was 15-16 when I first played the game and I thought she was super hot, as she was designed to be be, but the characters, uncharacteristically in my eyes, absolutely hated her and thought she was ugly. The character that I found the most overt OOC with this lens was Yosuke, resident horndog degen. Despite him actively attempting to basically sexually harass / assault the other girls in his own friend group, the game also tries to act like he's disgusted by Kashiwagi when it seems like he would absolutely eat up the opportunity, especially since the game goes out of its way to put them directly IN this situation.



The way this ties into your post more directly is your mention of Persona 5 and 2 particular contexts that that adds to this era of writing retroactively, that being the incel behavior of the antagonists and the existence of the dateable teacher social link.



With the former, it makes sense that Yosuke, as an incel, could be repelled by Kashiwagi for a number of misogynistic reasons, what with her being above a certain age and the fact that she's more sexually aggressive than is 'socially acceptable'. With the latter, it puts the idea that her suggestive advances towards everyone, but mainly her students (and her competition with the younger girls) isn't the issue that they're committed to addressing. Even in P4, the line is skirted with the Nurse social Link, but having a fully dateable adult woman where the only difference between her and Kashiwagi is that in P5, Kawakami is explicitly in the subservient / submissive role in the relationship (complete with you having to save her to boot) seems more like a trend than a coincidence.

Don't love AI like that and recognize the environmental impact but not going to push for a fight that's already lost in my opinion. All we can hope is that the real world cost of AI causes it to blow up in the faces of these companies and they scale back but even in that situation I don't see AI going away in any meaningful way, companies and really the economy as a whole has already invested too much into it.

All it takes is one person to notice that shit for it to unravel, and for bigger games with larger teams, someone just has to DM Jason Schreier to be like "So uhh, yeah they completely fired the art team and used GenAI to make every billboard in Stuntman Hollywood' or whatever. I want to force them to lie. Maybe we only catch one in five devs that lie, but that's still better to me than not knowing at all.
