How you can't see how this exact behaviour is making discussion here more and more toxic is beyond me.
The reverse racism accusation is laughable. You know that wasn't the point I was making since I agree with most of what you're saying. My point is that you're reading a post from someone who you don't know anything about where they call someone who stabbed a kid a psycho and you somehow infer that they're a massive racist, rather than the more likely scenario that they'd also think a white person stabbing someone is also a psycho. Making sweeping, extreme and hateful judgements about complete strangers based on basically nothing is clearly wrong. Villainising people who are pretty much aligned with you on the most important issues by assuming the worst of them is wrong.
And then weaponising me agreeing with you that as a white person I may have unconscious biases and twisting it into the worst possible interpretation of what I said is incredibly insulting. And yes, I think I'm a good person overall but that's irrelevant - my point was that you don't really know any of the people you're making these widespread judgements about. And ending it with "you'll be OK" is so ridiculously dismissive when you have no idea what shit I've been through, same as I don't know the shit you've dealt with that shapes who you are.
I don't know why me basically saying we shouldn't blindly assume the worst of people on a forum we all share is so controversial. I'm not assuming anyone here is a massive racist (aside from the one guy that got permed) and indeed I do my best to just speak frankly. If I wanted to call you a Nazi or something, I would've just called you a Nazi.
I do think Era has anti-Black biases for a whole host of reasons, that those biases show up in discussions such as this one without any introspection on part of participants in the conversation, that they're visible for all to see and not mere assumptions as you keep dismissing them as, hence why multiple Black people in this thread have pointed them out, and that those biases being called out is not either completely irrational or a direct accusation of conscious hatred.
And again, the further you dig your heels and insist that having a negative overview of the biases present within the conversation is a real problem, that I'm charging people with being massive bigots when that's an assumption borne from the defensiveness and outrage on your part, that your personal life and good intentions are at all relevant to anything I'm talking about, the more you ironically keep proving my point.

Where's Nepenthe to condemn all the people saying something loses its status of art as soon as one piece doesn't use a process you like?
Quote:No. It's cheating let alone the fact it literally isn't an expression of a human.
Quote:Anything can be art. Nobody I've heard talking positively about AI sounds like anyone that would be capable of creating art, however. They're uniformly incurious people with nothing interesting to say. They inspire no confidence that they would be good stewards for any sort of resonant creation. And they're untrustworthy, seeming to primarily spin up AI and mislead people until called out. And if you can't trust motive, it's difficult to even allow whatever they've made to move you.
Quote:Anything can be art, even if it's not a particularly *good* art, so long as its made with purpose.
AI does not fulfill the latter requirement.
Quote:Art requires human intent. LLM AI cannot have that. It has no reasoning, no intent, no soul.
Quote:Sure, it's just no longer their art it's the people's who they stole it from.
Quote:Is stolen art still art?
Lobster Roll wrote:And it doesn't matter if the adoption is increasing. It just means more people are ok with art theft. If somebody is not creating artwork, then it's not art. Theft and plagiarism should never be given legitimacy. Quote:It's arguably a form of plagiarism...from a certain point of view.
Quote:It severely dilutes any merit of being art in any medium, if you can still call it one.
Any integrity, if it still has one, is lesser than even plagiarized works tbh.
Quote:The only time that AI is art, is that it is a constant reminder of what art is, by being a shining example of what art isn't.
Quote:That said if you used AI/LLM's in your game, I'm just not buying it because it was created with stolen assets from someone else or someone lost/missed on a job because this tool exists.
Quote:No. A. I. has no human experience. Everything it spits out was stolen and fed to it and is just regurgitated.
Quote:So I'll go against the grain and say that it IS art, but not in the way genAI supporters believe.
The medium and context in which a piece was created matters just as much as the piece itself. Art that was generated from an amalgamation of other human artists, pumped out for the sake of saving money in order to MAKE money, made to imitate without understanding and with barely any input from the "creator" is it's own commentary. But the people generating art this way aren't interested in having that kind of conversation about a piece, they just want to sell you garbage. (And ruin the environment.)
So in a vacuum, it's art, but the people creating it aren't artists, they aren't interested in making art, and they actively hate art. So it's art that isn't worth creating.
Quote:No, I only know that genAI cannot create art because it doesn't think about anything other than draining lakes and stealing work from real human creativity.
It can't explain why it made XYZ choices or create anything that's never been seen before because it relies on tons of stolen work for its data sets and even then it's not enough that now it's eating itself alive based on fake genAI info and pics.
Quote:No. It's like putting a droplet of poison in a glass of water and still calling the substance, water.
Minthara wrote:If it contains gen AI, then any copyright and ownership over said work should be voided as it's not original work. Like the only use case would be if it was a model solely trained on your stuff, and even then there's a whole bunch of grey area.
Whether it's ultimately art or not becomes wholly irrelevant if it was build using a machine that engages in thievery. Quote:No. Art has a deliberateness with intent, messaging, and execution. AI has none of that.
I'd love to hear a single one of these people explain how it's stolen or plagiarism.
JigglesBunny wrote:No, but publishers and most developers don't care about that distinction, so I'll give them one they should care about. Games that use generative AI during production aren't considered eligible for first hand purchase.

This moron unintentionally made the point that the only answer to the thread is "yes" in his stupidity:
Lobster Roll wrote:Quote:Is there any evidence that AI can actually make anything substantial that's not trash without heavy human manipulation?
Not even trash, AI can't "make" anything in the first place.
Quote:Someone more eloquently than I here brought up the best point about AI conceptualizing and it should end any of this debate. (Kudos to you, I forget who it was):
Researching and using source material provides you with factual and useful information to form your own ideas. (Think cultural reasons for armor and clothing colors, materials and structure etc)
Using AI for vibes will just lead to errors and faux pas but it looked cooler than anything you could have come up with so you use it and sell it.
"Well a true artist could then go in and make changes based on their own research after getting an idea!"
So if I ask everyone in my town to run every faucet and crank up their heat to charge up my idea generator only to just do the normal work I would have done afterwards anyway, that's cool?
That's legit all this is.
Should have been killed before it got to here.
ConVito wrote:No. Full stop. We literally can't give AI bros an inch, because they will continue to take more every time.

To answer for my own studio, we're making a comedy game. Part of the thing that makes visual puns and sight gags funny is knowing that real people spent time and effort creating something stupid. So in our case, we're not touching gen AI tools, not even for code, and definitely not for placeholders or concepts. I don't think all uses of these tools are bad, but they're not appropriate for us.
Really giving customers their monies worth in their previous games with literally tens of minutes of gameplay:

I can't in good faith really recommend this game. It has a 20-minute gameplay and no replayability at all. The graphics are bad, the interactions are not tactile, the puzzles are average. This should be a free game.
Besides that, there's absolutely no reason why this game should be in VR -- it benefits nothing from that and restricts its audience to 1/50th of what could have been.
Quote:osted: June 23, 2018
Very short but enjoyable game. As it is a sequenced puzzle game once you know what items to use, they will never change.
So it has zero replayability. Be warned, you will get about 45mins of gameplay with no reason to play again.

I thought I was going to really like this game. Turns out it is literally only 2 levels long and only has 2 different kinds of enemies. 3 if you account the two types of gnomes. I beat it 100% in 30 minutes.
Quote:Posted: July 21, 2024
let me get the cons out of the way. its crazy short, like 30 min. The optional collectibles are in plain sight and a bit too easy to find. Feels like a demo and only two enemy types.

Let's say I'm an indie dev and I draw the texture for a rock in my video game. I need a placeholder texture for my cliffsides, so then stretch that rock texture and Ctrl + V all over the cliffside. It looks like shit and I need something closer to my imagined final element just to get a feel for the environment, so I use AI to get a better approximation for my end-goal cliffside texture.
Would the video game as a whole suddenly lose the essence of its "art"-iness because AI was used to save me a little time and assist me when the end user would have no idea AI was used to begin with?

“You never once admitted or took accountability. You tried to play victim. The real victim is the one who died, not the one who shoved a knife in his chest,” he said. “I come to pray with you and show the world we can close the gap of this unbelievable racial divide. And what did you do? You widened the gap even further. You people hang your hat on the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen.”
Metcalf proceeded to invent a racial slur for Karmelo to play into the racist trope, saying, “Let me make something racist up so y’all can go viral. I got a new name for Melo, okay? they can never figure out attribution, it's whatever reflects worst on the user or the AI model itself at any given time
if "AI doesn't make anything," but surely something was made because here it is sitting in front of you where it didn't exist before, then I guess the person using AI made it? but they don't want to allow for that interpretation either, because it ascribes human intent behind something "AI-made"
what if someone makes something horrifically racist with AI? where does responsibility lie? did AI make it so the person who prompted it is blameless? or do we hold the person responsible? or are they saying neither AI nor the person made it, because everything "made with AI" came from its training data, so really all the creators who were stolen from made the horrifically racist content?

I get how he feels but may as well scream at the sea to stop weaves and get mad because it keeps doing it. karmelo’s parents are more interested in helping their son to not get his life totally ruined and playing the race card seems to be the desperate gambit, and I cannot totally blame them either.
Neither side of the shit stirrers and grifters look good. And people at social media encourage this rather than mend the gap.
Ex: This post would get me a ban at RE only for saying that I get the desperation of Metcalf or that Karmelo’s parents are probably betting that a racial bias defense is the only way to save their son.

Exactly, having a highly publicized murder trial like this in the age of social media coverage where the worst people imaginable have a financial incentive to the stoke racial animus as much as possible is only going to end in disaster and make the process of grieving and closure worse.

In less depressing news, the SB thread has devolved into users shadowboxing chuds because anyone remotely argumentative to the topic has been successfully scared off/purged

Not to mention the argument is generalising an entire race.

the work never ends. the honeypots will continue until every last molecule of potential chuddery is eradicated.

Not that the problems it highlighted within the gaming community and industry at large were new, in fact they're basically ancient at this point, but it just so starkly put into focus how many people just don't give a single shit about these issues.
2's reveal is less than a week old and I'm already losing my mind. The sheer indifference to the problems that the devs themselves are touting as a fucking plus is appalling.
tangeu wrote:You're right, it's not a new problem but these games certainly highlight the ambient temperature of this forum or even gamers in general. It's super frustrating because right now that thread is going and will be an echo chamber of people saying how gross it is because the usual suspects are just avoiding it for now, but when there is a new trailer or preview or review thread bet your ass we'll see the "hype" all over again and the problems will be ignored and will become normalized and the next one will be even worse.
But I thought that's what they wanted??? People are too afraid to say anything positive about the game in fear of getting sniped while everyone else is performatively tut tutting to virtue signal they're an ally. Even if they successfully get Stellar Blade on the banned content list like Hogwarts Legacy, people will just move on to the next game that's deemed problematic and express their interest/excitement and we do the same song and dance.
I wonder if they're gonna make excuses for Dead or Alive 7 to avoid this scrutiny because it's a series they grew up with (so it doesn't count as a chud game) whereas Stellar Blade is a new IP designed exclusively for chuds in their mind.
This is a game and thread that can be easily ignored if they don't like the content. Cunts.

Now trying to frame the general statement of "don't insult people" as trying to get minorities to shut up is the perfect example of the much talked communication problems we have talked about countless times in this thread. The nuance between criticism and insults has completely merged for some users here.
People should think about whether this "you're either with us or you're the worst person imaginable" will actually achieve the results they hope for.
I couldn't even care less about stellar blade. Never played it but the discussion around it lays bare the same communication issues that has plagued this forum for some time. me. Well said.
And people that just want to discuss Stellar Blade Blood Rain were never the aggressor, we simply just want to discuss the game. The trailer looks amazing, the city was just next level, and I'm sure there would be more and more fans for it as they start showing more towards the year, showing more gameplay, more story, more locations etc. But most of the fans will also understand that she does look young for a young adult and is open to criticism.
While on the other hand the folks who dislike Stellar Blade Blood Rain are demanding it to be banned while they already have the option to thread ignore or simply not go into the thread. And as mentioned before there are games being allowed that have actual teens with sexualized content like Persona 5, and others and those are allowed which is a step even above Evie in Stellar Blade blood rain who is just a young adult that happens to look too young which I do agree with and I'm sure many fans also agree.
Now this does not mean persona 5 fans or other games like that are pedo not even close because as mentioned before the game offered so much more just like Stellar Blade Blood Rain offers so much more. Xando, post: 156114088, member: 21387 wrote:I mean people should be free to voice their criticisms in those threads. Hell some fans will even agree or understand some of their criticisms. So they can go into the thread to do this whenever they want.
And then they also have the option to not go into the thread if they choose to and even another option to outright ignore thread if they also want that.
They just gonna at least not cross the line which is insulting fans of the game in unprovoked scenarios. I couldn't even care less about stellar blade. Never played it but the discussion around it lays bare the same communication issues that has plagued this forum for some time. It's genuinely exhausting. I'm personally glad to see SB2 getting deserved criticism here, but I'm getting beyond sick and tired of how comfortable some people seem to have gotten with calling people pedos, or in some cases, being racist/orientalist. I'm grateful to the mods being on top of actioning instances of these, but once again, people feel comfortable saying them to begin with, which is the issue.
And it feels like the waters are being increasingly muddied when people rightfully feel like minorities are being told to "shut up" or keep criticism to select threads, which I believe IS certainly the implication I'm feeling from some users. But there's a world of difference between criticising a game and its devs, and straight up accusing people of being pedos. To be frank, as someone who has experienced abuse in childhood, it feels like it trivialises its severity, and redirects focus away from the actual issue (the fact the playable character of SB2 looks like an overtly sexualised 12 year old), to taking swipes at complete randos. That's not to say I want to see people being openly gross about the game either, but generalised "if you play this, you're a pedo" is absolutely not okay, regardless of how you feel about the game.
Honestly though, I don't think this is something that can be "fixed", because some people are going to continue to feel comfortable accusing people of horrible shit, but then calling that out also sometimes makes the actual bigots and those using "civility" as a guise feel emboldened, so... Like, I want a community that feels comfortable to criticise things like SB2, and push back on those handwaving those criticisms away, but I also draw my line in the sand when people start flinging insults and accusatio
ns wildly, though that line seems to just been completely blurred here a lot of the time now.
