Pretty much. The father of the victim said race was not a factor and pushed back against those trying to stoke racial tensions with this case but social media is a hellscape of psychos and bad actors trying to sow as much discord as possible to line their pockets so what're you gonna do.

Because he was such this little boy y’all was trying to portray. How about ‘Watermelon Felon’? How’s that one strike you?”

The Metcalf family patriarch added that his son’s murder and subsequent happenings have altered his outlook on society, citing the term “black fatigue.”

“From day one I said this was never about race. Please don’t make it about race and don’t politicize it. And what did you do? You chose both. The race card. Black fatigue. It’s real. I’m sorry. You have embarrassed your own culture and race,” he said.

I'm not going to side with the banana guy because there has been such a recent spate of "main characters" at concerts that it actively puts me off to wanting to go to certain shows. There's a difference (not even a fine line) between letting loose and enjoying yourself versus busting out distracting, annoying gimmicks that try to make you, not the artist, the center of attention.

I struggle with this, particularly since it looks like it's gone viral and there's death threats to the band and as [USER=6489]atdawnwestrike[/USER] pointed out looks like they are losing gigs.

On one hand, I don't want to yuk anyone's yum.

Second, I do think people are taking it more seriously than it was supposed to be? It's weird to see people clutch pearls at the band telling the audience to rip his costume...at a hardcore show. There's also the 'main character' syndrome of it all, you're wearing a huge costume in the middle of the pit where people are throwing hands literally, you will be a target.

I can post "nude" shots of her and it wouldn't violate the rules because she is not anatomically correct. The art also doesn't ever try to frame her like Stellar Blade characters. There are no panels focusing on her ass or something.

She is also grown ass woman.You can argue the first couple of arcs she felt more like teenager, but she grows past that pretty damn quickly. 

Not to mention that even at its most egregious, it was never anywhere near as objectifying as SB.

Been a fan of End It since some time shortly after they started but this was disappointing to see.

The online discourse surrounding it on major social media spaces has also been equal parts frustrating, disappointing and not surprising. I may only speak for myself and my own personal experiences, but going to hardcore shows in South Florida in the mid 2000's-2010's, this kind of bonehead behavior was always actively practiced, encouraged and celebrated. I have way too many stories... maybe I'll save them for another post another time, lol. Seldom was it ever questioned or challenged though, and I speculate part of the reason being that people who practiced it had enough social capital that if there were even a slight inclination expressed to speak out against it, you'd also get your ass kicked and ostracized from the community at large.

I'm not an "authority" on the moral principles of hardcore, but after spending more than two decades listening to it as well as growing up with it and Punk Rock, I like to think it's not completely off base to say that part of it's "ethos" is to welcome the disadvantaged, the social outcasts and otherwise most vulnerable people in society and give them a voice as well as to further the cultivation of the subculture and perhaps help the people who felt discontent with the status quo to do something positive in their life through music.

Is violence part of the subculture? Absolutely and you don't have to look far in seeing it practiced. I think there's levels to it though in it's applicability and what I would say wouldn't be entirely objectionable. Like kicking the asses of racists and assorted like minded people out, moshing and 2 stepping, etc. But extending that to people who are paying to see your show and support you who are dressed different or just look slightly out of place is...goofy as hell to say the very, very least. Even if the intentions weren't entirely malicious, the optics are terrible.

At least act with fidelity a bit better with your principles and put the same lens we carefully put on top of pressing social issues with our lyrics on our own behavior in the "scene". Or we become no better than the people in power we speak out against. I used to think it would naturally follow that we do so, but I've become pretty disillusioned over the years as I realized that's almost never the case, situations like this being spotlighted being demonstrative of that. The tribalism with the gatekeeping in some posts on social media and the pseudo-intellectual justifications for it are pitifully ignorant

Everyone knows that there is no Safer Space than the...*checks notes*...Hatebreed tour.
