The problem for me is the attitude of it's not that bad does feel like downplaying the dangers and issues by US publications pushing their National Pride to hide it; I don't think these tourists are faking or acting like propaganda, but US media is using that as a form of propaganda to downplay Trump.

Yes I'm miserable, I'm miserable because I'm worried about my trans friends in the US because there rights are slowly being erroded, that's bad to me. My friend had a rescue dog that blatantly didn't trust women. We basically came to the conclusion after knowing him for a little while that his previous owner must have been a woman who deeply mistreated him, because he would be really calm and nice around both him and me but the SECOND his girlfriend or any other woman was in the room he immediately pivoted into a completely defensive, "someone's gonna hurt me" mode. You could even see his muscles clench up the moment he could smell her. The poor thing was just deeply emotionally broken and it haunted him for the rest of his life.

It feels like all of the worst aspects of a poodle and a golden slammed together into one dog. I don't know why my family was so dedicated to getting one; we've only ever had goldens and a golden/pyrenees mix up until this point and they've all largely been pretty chill, generally low-maintenance animals. This one has two modes: asleep or "I'm gonna have/give you a panic attack" with no middle ground.

I really hope he ages out of this because if he doesn't I'm gonna lose my mind and the cats are going to hate living in this house for his entire life.

I wish my family did research on goldendoodle temperament before they decided they HAD to get one and outvoted me when I said I didn't want one. This puppy makes me want to scream.

The part that's honestly so stressful about dog ownership is that you just don't know until you know. You have no way of knowing if a dog has the capacity to go completely apeshit until it does it. Any breed can snap, there are just some breeds that are more dangerous as a baseline when they do.

We have a new goldendoodle puppy right now (3 and a half months, I think?) and he's so energetic and aggressive (and so prone to catastrophic separation anxiety meltdowns) that I am constantly terrified he's going to flip out one day and rip our cats to shreds. Thankfully the cats hate him and basically avoid him at all times because they blatantly do not trust his behavior patterns, but the entire reason we got a dog in the first place was to get a playmate for our younger cat to make him stop harassing our older cat. So now we have an asshole puppy and a kitten who thinks his 6-year-old older sister who's recovering from heart failure wants to wrestle all the time (she does not). Instead of solving the kitten's energy problem we've multiplied it.

I remember seeing something somewhere that Golden Retrievers, of all breeds, have one of the highest per-capita bite rates (largely contributed to by their sheer popularity and the tendency of families with kids to get them), but due to the fact that their jaws aren't built the same way as a Rott or a Pit, the chances of serious injury are vastly, vastly lower. Goldens also (typically) don't have the temperament that makes them absolutely lock in when they bite.

That being said, even a golden can be dangerous. We had one when I was a college student that flat-out killed another dog. So even "nice" dogs can be dangerous.

The only legitimate shot the UK has left is the Greens. The liberal democrats are the next least worst option probably, but the last time they had a whiff of power, they blew it all to partner with the conservative party and achieved little to nothing in the process.

It's hard not to see things go from awful to worse than awful. My family members are already so supportive of a Farage future. And my situation is making it difficult to move away from any of this any time soon.

I've been feeling increasingly nihilistic about everything going on in world politics recently. The 'good' voices are getting drowned out by the people with literally all the money, the press is swinging even harder to the right than I thought possible, and we've got a Labour government in power that's being crucified for every decision by almost everyone. It's just depressing, and at this point my thoughts are generall "Fuck it, let it all burn".

One really weird part of these last few years has been the world I came back to after an event that triggered around 2 years of memory loss. I'm used to things getting progressively worse but at times it almost feels more like I died on the resus table earlier this year rather than survived. From the rapid decline politically in recent years even down to silly things like the way adverts now look like I'm shopping on Wish. It feels impossible to beleive this is our reality now.

Yet somehow I'm in a better spot than I was before things got worse. We spent our whole lives fighting for my wifes LCWRA and got it somewhere in the 2 years I lost. Due to events I went through we can do more to try put ourselves in a better spot too, we actually have a lot of options we never did that actually give us some hope.

But it almost feels wrong since at the same time I'm watching everything crash and burn all at once. Had we not got that lifeline at the time we did we'd likely be homeless by now. But all we can do is more paperwork to prepare and defend ourselves through this mess. It feels hopeless as there's so little I can do to help others. Even donating our old stuff to charity now comes with a charge.

It's bizarre. I practically woke up to a world I barely recognise with a lifeline of hope, watching the world burn and can only do what I can to defend myself, as even those I can help don't want the help. Nihilism is hard to avoid with the way things are so I get it.

 

But they have announced record expenditure in these areas after 14 years of rampant austerity by the last gov?

This government has been so resoundingly, despairingly and evidentially shite on so many areas (trans rights, Palestine Action, you name it) it continues to baffle me when people just make stuff up to discredit them.

The problem isn't so much the social media ban, it's the fact it means that ADULTS will have to provide government ID or biometrics to access social media.
I mean it's also the social media as well. For all, all, ALL the faults social media has, it's also one of the few ways for LGBTQ+ kids to connect, find support, group up, protest, get informed etc, I wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for finding like minded people my age online over decade ago that helped me realize I was trans.

This is especially true for trans kids in an age where all classic media is hostile to them. We're basically sacrificing that and giving them nothing in return, less then nothing actually because we're also taking away places for them to gather in off the web and made a culture that despises them. Instead of putting in the effort to create safe spaces for kids, regulate these mega corps, fighting against exploitation of kids etc. We're taking away another avenue completely for them to interact and find help and support.

These bans affect minority groups the most, it makes it harder for us to organize, stay informed, call out disinformation and push the truth. Trans kids deserve to know their not alone, that they are loved and there are many out there who are like them and want to help them get through this, the Government is making sure we can't do that. These bans shouldn't be supported.
