With Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo have modern hardware that can support 99% of titles developed across the industry. Great! So do their competitors! However the reality is that Microsoft and Sony have aging systems with higher costs and a new generation on the horizon.

Next generation systems starting at $800 with games and accessories prices also rising will not be successful with continuing higher inflation. The gaming industry cannot sustain itself if the hardware being developed for is not in the hands of consumers. Exclusive titles for next generation systems will be harder to justify than ever before and more than likely will be few and far between. This will be a further handbrake on next generarion growth.

Nintendo Switch 2 is the second best selling system of all time over the course of its first year, it continues to gain momentum and will continue to gain a large and diverse audience of players. Nintendo have set up a development pipeline in which they are able to heavily support the system with exclusive titles, ensuring a successful platform that developers can be confident in. The hardware is relatively easy to develop for and titles can be developed at a lower cost than current and next generation titles.

So keeping the above in mind, it makes sense for third party developers to heavily support the Switch 2 moving forward as the player base is large and will continue to grow, the hardware will support their games and the future on other platforms is uncertain therefore hedging the bets is in their own best interest.

So how does Nintendo save a market of ever increasing prices meaning players being priced out of the console market and an industry looking for a solution? They do it by providing a cheaper alternative.

This is finally where a console only Switch makes sense. Strip out the complexity of a handheld, remove the added cost of a battery, large touch screen, speakers, magnets, fan etc and provide a cheaper entry point to the next decade of games.

Microsoft and Sony cannot do this, there is no alternative for them. Nintendo are the only ones with any possibility to provide a reasonable entry point into modern gaming for the foreseeable future and I believe they will rise to this moment.

I dunno, man...If I abandoned my kid before he turned 14 to some underpaid gov't caseworkers and state fosters who showed me up by proving all of his issues were treatable growing pains through support and not more abandonment, I'd probably not be able to functionally navigate to a video game forum through the haze of guilt-induced alcoholism.

Totally normal thread to create -

I know this is a heavy topic, and I know everyone will have different comfort in sharing. Also, for many, these thoughts and feelings come in waves - sometimes slow and steady tides and other times massive tsunamis. Don't want to trigger anyone, but had a conversation the other day and I just didn't feel the folks around me were being honest.

There's a somewhat popular TikTok/tweet/Insta post that gets regurgitated often; a jokingly presented comment that when their therapist asked how often they have suicidal thoughts, they joke "no more than normal," to which the therapist corrects them: the "normal" amount of suicidal thoughts are zero.

I was having a conversation about this with a group of people I'm semi-close to, and said "then I guess nobody is 'normal,'" And they turned it into this "go get help" dialogue and "no, they've never thought about it." I think most - or at least many - were putting on a mask... a facade... because out of eight or nine people, I just don't accept that only I have had them.

I'm not suggesting I'm suicidal today or right now. But in 40 years of life? Yeah, I've considered it. Just the weight of the world - when luck feels designed to work against you. When nothing is working out. When it's failure after failure, and disappointment after disappointment. When you don't feel you're getting anywhere on your personal improvement goals. When you fail others even though you try. "Am I worth it?" or worse, IMO: "am I even happy?" Do I want to be here any more?"

Heck - it could be even as simple as unrequited stupid teenage love that never actually matters - but these folks were saying they never have had suicidal thoughts. I'm... dubious.

Or, hey, maybe it really is super uncommon. Figured I'd throw out a poll; maybe I'll be surprised. And to be clear, "thoughts" and "ideation" are technically different - but let's just say for the sake of this conversation, you've put more than an intrusive thoughts' worth of focus on the idea.

In the interest of breaking the ice - I think I'd be the classic case of "I would have never seen it coming." My life is pretty put together. I have a great family. Decent job. A savings. I don't hate how I look or talk. I've got some hobbies. I joke around. I'm friendly. I have okay friends and great friends. I know how fortunate I am, but nevertheless I definitely am selecting "often."

So everyone is always angry about anyone on the internet, sometimes understandably so, but since he just got a new episode out, I want to highlight Lewis "Linkara" Lovhaug. He's been on the internet for at least as long as the whole "Guy with the Glasses" crew, except he's a legit cool dude, and opposed to others he always, always was and is very vocal about gay and trans rights, racism and hate in comics (and anywhere, really), women's rights and - given his business - how comics regularly ridicule female characters, and much more.

What I'm saying is he's good people and he's been that for decades, yet he is vastly underrated and underwatched.
