Nepenthe wrote:My question is, is I'm one of these AI companies right now, and all of these companies and tech giants are now irrevocably hooked, what incentive do I have to lower the price of tokens, especially in the face of self-imposed limits?
Behold: Resetera's fiercest critic of capitalism...only temporarily defeated by the concept of competition and technological advancement that she never considered before.
GPT-4 with a tiny context window of 32K launched in March 2023 and it was $60 per million input tokens and $120 per million output tokens. You were limited to using it 4x per day on the subscription plan because of the cost. Today it's considered slow and braindead. It was about 6x more expensive per token than the smartest models we have today - models that people already consider very expensive (the ones costing execs so much). Today, models much smarter than GPT4 are offered free on many APIs, and openai offers GPT4o which is way smarter than gpt4 for 40 cents per million tokens or 300x cheaper .
Intel got people hooked on computer processors...and yet...why we still got monkeys? Checkmate capitalists.

Good luck This would sell worse than Avowed 1 if they end up releasing it, just like The Outer Worlds 2. I think Pillars of Eternity's world has a lot of potential (Deadfire was proof this franchise is not as boring as people make it out to be), but they've pretty much squandered it at this point with Avowed.
Anyway I think Chris Avellone was the first person who leaked Avowed 2's existence - he just recently said Obsidian was in the process of pre-prod with Shadowrun....that sounds like such a better proposition business wise to me than Avowed.
you know what, Schreiers youtube channel is actually great, three cheers for jason

There's a train of thought that inflated studio sizes has been part of the problem.
If you have 100 people instead of 50 people, you need to keep those extra 50 people busy so the scope of the game just blows out exponentially and instead of taking 2.5 years to make a game it now takes 5 years.
How can you be agile and innovative if you're bogged down in bureaucracy.

Glad he got his credits. I do not know much bout the information regarding his termination.
I truly fear for the future of Bungie. Is there ever a secenario under which Era would consider a person to be actually cleared of a sexual assault allegation?
Spoiler: (click to show)(click to hide) Not that I think this case is particularly open and shut. The joint statement says, paraphrased, "Sony admits that this dude worked on Marathon." A very mild statement considering some of the language used in other recent walkbacks/mea culpas of this sort.

You are not wrong. And I guess this still applies to iD regardless of being small compared to other studios.
But I’m just going to say: Is a pretty obvious that is a corpo written response, honestly. Specially since they fired the engine guys. “Guys, we are just in the same side as when we made Doom 2016. We are fine, honest.” ( ) . People have said that they were already one of the smallest studios at Microsoft.
Feels like Microsoft didn’t expect the PR backlash (how they couldn’t).

Quote:Are you sure this extended grace was due to him being a white man or because he had the right "vibe"? Morris Katz insisted voters were tired of politicians who felt like they were "grown in a vat", but Platner also at times felt like he came out of vat... just a different type of vat. Specifically the "salt-of-the-earth-rugged-frontier-farmer-bootstraps-pulling-no-nonsense-outsider"-vat that gave him a similar vibe our favorite shorts-and-a-hoodie wearing senator also gave off.

It goes back to how the American worker is sold to you as the rural white guy pickup truck Bud drinker: you see it in commercials, when liberal media wants the pulse of 'the people' in their choice of interviewee, in political events where someone called Bubba shows up about his 'small business' (worth 20 million) is being hurt by the other parties policies. It's why Ted Cruz whips out his cowboy hat when on the stump. All that even though that is not what the average blue collar worker looks like: hell how many blue collar workers live in cities because cities need food, trucks, plumbers too?
Zohran's politics, personality and hobbies should have him in a hoodie and sneakers. But he wears a suit 24-7 for a reason, even in a photo op where he plays some soccer he rocks a tie under a jersey.

Not saying you can't have minority outsider pols but they have to be a different cloth ie Zohran. America worships working class white guys because they built this country (not black people), put in the infrastructure to explore to expand West (not Asians), and are the ones working the farms (not Latinos). They Are The Real Americans (cue Ford commercial…) lol. They are the only ones to get +3 in all stats when they put on flannel, timbs and can give a good speech.
Honestly he may have a point ( he just posted in the dumbest way possible) but I feel the “white blue worker” buff has its limits and it’s probably more to do with charisma.
But the notion that “minorities need to be this way” is telling in how brainrotted are identity politics.
