However, I don't want every woman in video games to be sexy, I don't want "sexy" to be a mandate for women in video games and honestly just kind of sick of the way women are so often objectified and sexualized in video games and I'm sick of the hostile pushback, especially over the past year against any and all criticism.
I guess so that this thread doesn't because an incoherent ramble, I better list my frustrations.
- I'm sick of the mentality that EVERY woman in video games needs to sexy or attractive that this has to be a mandate, especially in RPGs, Action games, Fighting games etc. This is not a mandate men have in these games where men can be old, fat, large, ugly, scary, but women? Nope, pretty is a must and it's so obvious this negatively affects what women can be in these games. Women can't be old, women can't be too dorky, very rarely can they be muscly or tall, the can never be fat and if their meant to be scary it can only be in sexy scary way like a Succubus or a sexy vampire (can't have women be too monsterous). All women, even if it's a secondary costume or DLC must have a "sexy" revealing costume or a bikini regardless of their characterization, we can't women who are shy or don't like revealing skin oh no no, they must appeal to men. That's not even going into things like how this mentality often results in women's face looking samey or the racism often involved with dark skin and black women who often treated as uglier as pale women and suffer from stuff like whitewashing as seen with Fighting game characters like Vanessa, Lisa Hamilton and Elena.
- I'm sick of the defense of "men are sexualized as well!". I feel like I shouldn't even have to say why this defense is absurd, from the power dynamics, how women characters are leered at by the camera, the different intents involved etc etc.
- I'm sick of the mentality of "fixing" this issue is by making things "equal" aka, just sexualize and objectify the men without actually including more diversity or removing the unfair standards put upon women characters. - I'm sick of being made to feel that I'm ugly and unwanted from these discussions. It becomes very clear, that many men and some women really do only want "attractive" women in video games; that if you don't fit what society deems acceptably attractive, you aren't welcomed in video games, aren't deserving or rep outside of MAYBE a minor NPC or background character etc. There was a thread years back that made that loud and clear. Fat women are worthy of being in video games, butch women aren't worthy, masculine looking trans women like me aren't good enough for video games, trans women are only good enough if we pass and look sexy enough in the eyes of men and cis women.
- I'm sick of the boys club mentality of the video game community. It feels like so often if you want to feel welcomed in fandoms as a woman outside of women dominated genres and games, you're expected to "be one of the boys" and be a-okay with everything when men start being gross and immature about women characters (see how Street Fighter fans acted when Mai was launched for Street Fighter 6), shut up and keep any critiques that rock the boat and never expect better or more from video game companies or the community because it's just part of the culture and community doesn't want better. I'm sick of the feeling that I'm not wanted, that I'm a "Killjoy" for wanting some women not sexualized or more body diversity or Cammy wear pants.
- I'm sick of mentality that wanting more body diversity, less objectification or women characters that aren't "sexy" = puritan that hates sexy women. Again, I don't hate sexy women, most women don't hate sexy women. I love many sexy women characters. I love villainesses, I love well-written femme fatales etc. But that isn't all I want, I love Poison Ivy, but I don't want every woman to be Poison Ivy, women should be allowed to be women.
- I'm sick of the hypocrisy of men claiming their sex positive and supportive of women when defending objectified women and heavily sexualized women characters... Up until those women speak and actually have a personality that breaks their power fantasy like having opinions, having feminist viewpoints or being witty and sarcastic. Or then attack women for enjoying these works "wrongly" like drawing fan art or fan fiction, especially WLW fan art or fan fiction (yeah I'm not ignoring the extra hostility WLW characters get).
- I'm sick of feeling hopeless, I'm sick of feeling nothing is ever going to improve. It feels like things are moving backwards and I'm fucking sick of it.

You are the minority of a niche subgenre of gaming. A genre where most people like to play good looking characters (including you). You act like the stereotype of a soccer mom while probably looking like Peter Griffin in a drag. The worst thing is that your criticism rings hollow even within your social circle because is fucking obvious that you are fucking thirsty.

I'm just sick of it.
