I want to jump off of this quote to push back on some of what's listed in the OP.

You're dismissing the counterpoint of how this also applies to men characters, with no argument. Since this isn't about lewd characterisation and overtly male-gazy fetishized characters (like Stellar Blade), this is just the reality. People generally want the characters to be attractive, regardless of gender. Practically, the vast majority of popular male characters are attractive and "sexy". The only one I could think of is maybe Marcus from GoW, Trevor and maybe Nico from GTA.



I also wouldn't dismiss the "puritan" argument when discussing this general topic. You see this every fucking where online (with games, movies, etc) and even in this right here thread. Plenty of people online seem to be under the mentality than femininity = inherently bad/problematic, and we really can't have this discussion without highlighting this, cause it's a problematic and misogynistic facet that seemingly rears its head whenever this topic is brought up.

Wait times for first appointments for gender affirming care on the NHS are currently measured in decades.

Many will refuse to self segregate and will continue to use the spaces we have been using so far. The risks involved are not minor though, particularly at a point where tall cis women, those with short hair, and so on, are being 'transvestigated' by others who suspect them of being trans. Opening the bathroom door carries the anxiety of being called out by either a woman in it, or someone seeing you enter or queue to enter. They may call for staff to get involved, harass you, or start recording you on their phone. In the latter case, there's a not-insignificant chance that said photo/video could end up on JK Rowling's twitter feed, who recently posted an upskirt shot of a trans women as part of harassing her. As it stands I know a number of trans people who feel the need to bring their passport with them when using the bathroom, in the thin hope a changed marker will temper any accusation that comes their way. All of this also heavily affects the less privileged in our community – those who can't access or afford healthcare or surgeries, those who can't pass, those only starting their transition.

This also extends further than harassment and social media. Trans women already face disproportionate rates of sexual violence, even relative to cis women. The Equality and Human Rights Commission themselves acknowledge in their own impact assessment that this legislation risks increasing the instances of violence and sexual assault against trans women, yet they continued on regardless. Even the guidance itself has to meekly acknowledge that trans people "may" be discriminated as a result of it, and "may" have their rights lessened.

Sarah Owen MP, Chair of the Women and Equalities Committee, said:

    "The inconsistencies are in there and make it unworkable and unjust. Challenge someone, but don't cause harm or embarrassment challenging. How is that possible? How do you prove? How do you disprove? Ask trans people to use a third space, but somehow get them to keep their rights to a private life."


We know from the past year there is no "may" about this, it's just the fact of what they're doing.

It's worth reminding people as well that Labour were voted in on the promise of reforming the Gender Recognition Act and introducing Self-ID. Instead they have applauded the removal of our ability for legal gender recognition, permanently banned trans youth from accessing the healthcare they need, are attempting to prevent them from being able to even socially (change names/pronouns, present as the other gender via hair/clothing etc.) transition among their peers in school. Now they introduce segregation of us across broad areas of public life – all without so much as allowing for a vote or a debate on it before passing. 166 MPs called for the guidance to be disapproved, and they were ignored.

None of this is required by law either. The For Women Scotland decision does not require this guidance to go this far. The EHRC aren't translating the law, they're interpreting it, in ways designed to segregate trans people. The Labour Government, which has the power to change the law however they want and could reject this, restoring the situation to pre-FWS, are accepting this interpretation, welcoming it, and closing the door on changes to it. Andy Burnham, soon to be Prime Minister, wants the guidance implemented 'in the fairest and most compassionate way possible', as if you can implement segregation compassionately.

I find it hard in dating because, at least in today's dating landscape, many people see texting as a courtship dance. And you will get judged if you don't respond quickly or "banter" in text. I have to tell people that I prefer in person communications and prefer texts for logistics (time, place, etc).

Not just romance, but I do have some friends that communicate via text mostly and I have to also let them know the same.

I've given up on this issue because a singular person, myself, isn't going to move the needle within the gaming industry. Like, I've known that since I started gaming when I was younger. At the time, it doesn't dawn on you as a kid about how much objectification happens with women in the general media because those concepts are just not something that you think about as a kid with more depth and critical thinking.



It's only something that you start questioning as you get older and understand the difference between "She's made this way to look pretty" as opposed to "She's made this way because men want and inherently like it". You can argue that there is a subset of women who believe that characters were made to look pretty to appeal to women's aesthetics with liking pretty things, and there are; I'm one of them. I prefer pretty things to look at, and at the same time, I also prefer pretty things to look at where the character in question is not purposely hanging her chest so low in your face that you can see the cleavage. It's very obvious when those things are done and who they were made for.



One of the most annoying criticisms is the feedback of "Well, just don't play the game". Alright, that's fair. However...



Then, you have to ask how often men receive that feedback in the gaming sphere, and how often they actually don't immediately go to Twitter and demand something to be catered to or fixed for them before they are willing to play it? That's the difference between men and women gaming. This isn't to say that women don't also do this too, because they do. You see it with gacha games, like with the recent LADS nonsense where women were offended about a male character for looking too chiseled. The major difference is that the occurrences of women pulling that shit are astronomically lower compared to the men who go on to make petitions for keeping characters "sexy and objectified" or petitions for making them too "woke".



The end result is that men don't receive that feedback often, and if they do, they're immediately pandered to so nothing about that mindset gets challenged.



There are very few games that don't pander to sexualization for men to actually skip out on simply playing. That ratio is not the same for women.



For a guy to hold fast with the "well, don't play the game", that's like, and this is just an estimate, 20 games maybe. For a woman, that's practically almost every single RPG, Action, Adventure, Casual, etc.



So it's not as simple as "don't play it". For a woman to adhere to this, they would barely have anything 
noteworthy to play.

As a cishet white male in my mid-40s, this shit is weird and gross and has kept me from playing multiple games over the years. I've heard good things about the Bayonetta games, but the character design is so cringe that I won't entertain the idea of even trying it and having that on my TV. I finally tried the first Ace Attorney when the collection of them hit Game Pass a year or two ago and noped out pretty quickly when all of the female characters in the first two chapters had giant, jiggling breasts. Basically, I give a very wide berth to anything featuring overly sexualized character art because I find it very off-putting and embarrassing.
