Part of the problem is that Western European countries did barely any vetting on the people they admitted, or had far too lax requirements to allow people to immigrate, while simultaneously allowing these groups to exist without assimilation, creating their own radicalized echo chambers.
I think Muslims broadly are tired of being othered and also tired of potentially being run down at public events by radicals, but the real problem here isn't discrimination as much as allowing these radical bubbles to form and doing nothing to prevent it or stop it. 3 months for xenophobic rhetoric?
When it comes to Islamic terror there really is for some reason this first impulse on the left to go "What did we do wrong to deserve this?". People at the pride parade were marching with Palestine flags, shouting "Queers for Palestine" this guy ran them over. He doesn't have some higher, noble cause. A year earlier he was arrested in Lebanon because he wanted to join ISIS in Syria. Joining ISIS in Syria means you go there to kill other Muslims, what makes you think he'd stop hating you if your government cuts all resources to Israel? He doesn't even care about other Muslims.
When it comes to the far right the left is suddenly the opposite, then you get blasted for even wondering about the motive.

And in general, we need to stop othering regular muslims. Yes, there are enclaves that are a problem, but they are the result of people being discriminated against time after time after time. Factually incorrect, it's because of all the fetishization of women in the late 1940s, noisy Black music and bad haircuts:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sayyid_Qutb wrote:On his return to Egypt, Qutb in 1951 published "The America that I Have Seen", where he became explicitly critical of things he had observed in the United States, eventually encapsulating the West more generally: its materialism, individual freedoms, economic system, "poor" haircuts,[10] superficiality in conversations and friendships,[41] restrictions on divorce, enthusiasm for sports, lack of artistic feeling,[41] "animal-like" mixing of the genders (which "went on even in churches"),[42] and strong support for the new Israeli state.[43] Qutb noted with disapproval the openly displayed sexuality of American women:Quote:The American girl is well acquainted with her body's seductive capacity. She knows it lies in the face, and in expressive eyes, and thirsty lips. She knows seductiveness lies in the round breasts, the full buttocks, and in the shapely thighs, sleek legs—and she shows all this and does not hide it.[10]
He also commented on the American taste in arts:Quote:The American is primitive in his artistic taste, both in what he enjoys as art and in his own artistic works. "Jazz" music is his music of choice. This is that music that the Negroes invented to satisfy their primitive inclinations, as well as their desire to be noisy on the one hand and to excite bestial tendencies on the other. The American's intoxication in "jazz" music does not reach its full completion until the music is accompanied by singing that is just as coarse and obnoxious as the music itself. Meanwhile, the noise of the instruments and the voices mounts, and it rings in the ears to an unbearable degree ... The agitation of the multitude increases, and the voices of approval mount, and their palms ring out in vehement, continuous applause that all but deafens the ears.[41] Spoiler: (click to show)(click to hide) ResetEra prominent member?

Factually wrong, only people in the West (specifically whites, mostly Americans) have any kind of agency or interests.

These are the people who will repeat endlessly "Osama was right" and "9/11 was justified" because they think his complaint was from the downtrodden about the US supporting Israel and the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan. Willfully ignorant that he was a multi-millionaire from a billionaire family who wanted to overthrow the House of Saud (and most anyone else in the region) for not being fundamentalist enough.
Then they'll turn around and claim trans sports bans, social media restrictions for kids, sexualized video game women, cancelling movies for tax write-offs or whatever else are a secret plot by a mass Christian nationalist fascist conspiracy pushed by well known billionaires to dominate and subjugate Western culture to an extreme religious cult view.

ZeoVGM wrote:I have no idea what you're talking about.
Last year brought us Thunderbolts, First Steps and Superman. Does Supergirl being bad somehow undo the quality of those? Corncob wrote:'Quality'.... They're throwaway fun at best and derivative crap at worst. There's 10+ movies released each month better than all of those.
Marvel and, to a lesser extent, WB used to release interesting films once in a while like Nolan's Batmans, Black Panther, Winter Soldier, Logan, etc. Films with distinctive visions that actually felt exciting.
There's not been an actual quality superhero film for years. Marvel's TV shows are the only things that sometimes do something even remotely interesting.
Gosling being involved and being the catalyst for the movie piqued my interest but then the director announcement all but guarantees we're getting something mediocre as a best case scenario. ZeoVGM wrote:Again, Superman and Thunderbolts literally released last year.
What are you even talking about? Corncob wrote:Two completely mediocre films. That's what you're batting so passionately for lol. ZeoVGM wrote:Yeah, okay.
"Thunderbolts and Superman don't count as quality films" is not a serious opinion, so it's not possible to have any sort of dialogue with that. Corncob wrote:Well at least you're using dialogue this time instead of posting Tomatometers at me. ZeoVGM wrote:I mean, RottenTomatoes would be a valid thing to post here too. You're trying to argue that there has not been a single "quality" superhero movie in years, so critical response is actually very important in the conversation.
I gave two examples of movies that are widely considered to be good movies by both critics and fans, but you're instead pretending that Superman isn't a good movie. You're not here to have a debate, you're just trolling. ZeoVGM wrote:Anyway, we might not be in the golden age of the genre any longer but I'm happy that we're still regularly getting good superhero movies. Including top tier ones like Thunderbolts and Superman. Quote:Really? I felt like those are definition of just middle of the road superhero stuff. With maybe Superman a bit below. ZeoVGM wrote:Yes, really. Both are top tier superhero films and no, public sentiment has not soured on Superman. You might be on social media too much. Quote:Wouldn't being on social media be more tapped into the zeitgeist?? You get so defensive I love it!!

ZeoVGM wrote:Quote:Wouldn't being on social media be more tapped into the zeitgeist??
No. Twitter does not reflect real life.
Quote:And also the fact that it's pseudo sequel absolutely bombed.
Which has absolutely nothing to do with Superman. In fact, there was a lot of hype surrounding Supergirl after her appearance in Superman. People were absolutely excited to see her again.
It was the trailers and marketing for Supergirl that killed that hype.
Nice try though.
Quote:You get so defensive I love it!!
Ah, so I'm talking to a child.
Got it. Quote:You're the one who throws a fit whenever someone goes against something you like. Even if I called it something light like "middle of the road."
And you throw ad hominems like "too much time on social media" and saying I'm on twitter. Instead of making an actual point.
ZeoVGM wrote:I'm very calm in this back and forth. No fit-throwing at all. You're the one pushing false narratives about people no longer actually liking Superman, pretending that it had anything to do with Supergirl's failure, and saying things like, "lmao you're so defensive I love it!!!"
The idea that Supergirl bombed because people changed their mind about Superman and decided they didn't actually like it is utterly ridiculous. Why would that be taken seriously? You come at the king...

Feige literally has a file cabinet full of pitches for nearly every Marvel character. I read it as "I would love to play Ghost Rider [from the options Feige put in front of Shawn Levy to pick from]" or something along those lines.
Though he should probably start being concerned that they'll really have him sign his soul to the devil and kill him to resurrect him as the Spirit of Vengeance:
