Especially as a fan of massive JRPGs, I'd kill to have that much free time. Alas, I have indeed not gotten to games that are older than 5 years.
People very clearly did, as several people said that they hadn't played OoT yet and were excited to try it with the Remake and would rather have not had details of the game's ending revealed in a thread title.
The same thing happened when people then posted open Persona 5 spoilers here and then open Final Fantasy VII Revelations spoilers. Most of the people who have issues with spoilers openly dipped out of this conversation there because the thread clearly became a minefield of people posting spoilers to prove a point.
But that's also why the conversation evolved into a debate on if the ending should count as a spoiler or not, which is where it really started to break down. It's also why we are at a point where the argument was mostly become "I don't understand" "Yes you clearly do", and the roles of who is saying which half of that just keeps switching back and forth. There's a fundamental disconnect here.
(Yes, I still am here.)

Watching a trailer for a sequel to a game you haven't played is a choice you can make. Seeing a stray thread title or an unmarked spoiler in an unrelated thread is not the same thing as watching a trailer or entering a space where one might reasonably expect spoilers for a piece of media to be open.

Im still not exactly clear what certain Metal Gear spoilers are despite meaning to play those games ages ago, there's certain Persona twists Im not aware of yet and the list goes on...
Its really not hard to either:
Avoid spoilers because its hardly as prevelent as you seem to make them out to be.
Very easy for said spoilers to slip from my mind over time.
Just not care and go on with my day instead of quadrupling down on some non point. You wonder why youve not managed to "play every game immediately on release"? Well constantly posting in this thread is certainly one reason... log out and play some games instead, you'd be amazed how much progress you can make.
What seems weird? Could you write more in your post, please?

I don't have the option to avoid a KH4 trailer that pops up in the middle of a Nintendo Direct that I'm watching live out of nowhere, but also, I had seven years to beat KH3 and I didn't. If I get spoiled on it, oh the fuck well.
Nobody is talking about watching trailers. This is an irrelevant anecdote. You have many more options for avoiding a trailer you don't want to watch than you do seeing someone post open spoilers to a game you haven't played yet.
B-Dubs, post: 158551234, member: 143 wrote:Akechi being the killer means absolutely nothing to you unless you've played Persona 5. This perspective relies upon several assumptions.
1. That people won't remember the name or aren't familiar with the character despite not knowing the reveal about them.
2. That people in the middle of the game or that were about to play the game don't exist.
3. That because they haven't played the game yet they don't care about their experience with it as much as those who have played it.
Genuinely curious, have you played Persona 5? Because if you haven't the game literally opens with a mystery hook. It starts in media res and "one of your friends has betrayed you" is the first plot point at the beginning of the game. The story then flashes back and you spend roughly 75% of it's runtime working back up to that moment to have the reveal of which one of your friends betrayed you. It's a foundational element of the entire story. Anyone with even a passing interest in eventually playing Persona 5, or who has started it and are slowly working their way through it, will understand immediately what "[ISPOILER]Akechi is the killer"[/ISPOILER] means. The notion that it is just loose information that nobody will retain or understand unless they've already played the game is ridiculous.
Now one could argue that if you're genre savvy you may figure it out much earlier than the reveal. Indeed some would argue that the game makes it pretty obvious very early on who it is. I actually think the game does something kind of clever there which I like but... that's irrelevant. Ultimately, not everyone is going to have the same experience. I know a lot of people who have played Persona 5 and from conversations with them it seems pretty 50/50 split if people caught the hints or not. I know people who didn't know until the proper reveal. I also know people who have not played Persona 5 yet at all but want to get to it, I also know someone who is currently at the fourth dungeon in their first playthrough.
There's all different types out there, you know? It's kind of similar to something I was trying to say about the Ocarina of Time ending thing the other day. You argued that it's not a big deal because the ending doesn't matter to the whole experience. But all you're doing when you say that is presenting your feelings as "the correct way to feel". You don't really get to decide what does and doesn't matter to anyone but yourself. What you do get to decide is how the forum overall approaches these different perspectives. Ultimately, by posting the open Persona 5 spoilers you've made it clear that this forum is an unfriendly place to a large number of people. Did you know that y

OoT is an excellent Zelda game and its atmosphere it’s top notch… but you are not missing anything by knowing that “Link returns to his timeline”. The story is not that deep bro.
If the remake doesn’t fuck up the atmosphere and sudden creppy moments, you are going to have a good time regardless of knowing “important” spoilers like “Link gathers stones of power to make a rainbow bridge”.
It's not even a spoiler in any time travel story to reveal the main character returns to their original timeline. If anything, the reveal that it's a time travel story would be the only thing that would qualify as a spoiler at all.

and
2. Hey when making threads about the ending of video games, could you avoid posting the specific details of the ending in the thread title itself?
You sound ridiculous right now.
But anyway yeah if you want to pay me a livable wage so I don't have to go to work every day, I'll be more than happy to play _________ and ___________ right now. Otherwise I know I won't have time to finish them before the 15 fucking games I want to play come out in the next three months.
Titles legitimately censored at this point because some of y'all clearly can't be trusted to not be petty jerks.
I think this is pretty much the solution I've reached. I hate the idea of ignoring users for several reasons. I don't like missing important parts of conversations of threads for one thing. But also because even if we are angry at each other or dislike each other now, doesn't mean that will last. I tend to not hold grudges unless someone REALLY gets to me.
But that's going to change. If I can't trust people, I'm gonna have to ignore them. At which point I might as well start ignoring users for other reasons too. It's a shame it's come to that but it's probably the only way to continue using this forum in any way. Though I suppose I could also just leave Era entirely.
Like that'll happen

Whenever anyone pushes back on the ridiculous spoilerphobes, you get the same martyred pantomime.
“Oh, I was merely asking for everyone else to accomodate me at all times, but if that’s being unreasonable that’s fine, I’ll just have to live in a state of suffering.”
Even back in the GAF days when they flipped out about Thanos being in Guardians of the Galaxy or the height of Game of Thrones when everyone literally wasn't allowed to acknowledge that the books existed outside the spoiler thread, same thing. No one must ever discuss widely known things in popular culture openly in case someone in 30 years is denied the pristine original experience.
