RE surprisingly showing a deeper understanding of the situation, aware of how Morocco uses its own population as blackmail. One idiot in there though thinking Ceuta is a remnant of colonialism

While romanticizing centuries of North African Muslim rule in Iberia.

Thorrgal wrote:Colonies with autonomous governments and representation in both the parliament and senate not unlike any other mainland region like Madrid or Andalucia just because they happen to be overseas, although for Ceuta "overseas" literally means "at swimmable distance from Europe". Absolutely insane definition of "colonial".

Thorrgal wrote:What's insane is comparing Ceuta and Melilla to Sicily 🤣🤣🤣

yeah, dumbass, it's kinda like sicily because it demonstrates a territory does not become a colony merely because it is separated from the rest of the country or lies on another continent. Ceuta's inhabitants are Spanish citizens with elected local govts and autonomous institutions, and have representation in Spain’s gov't.  Find a single state that contains territory that wasn't acquired through conquest.  I thought modern "decolonization" was supposed to liberate a politically subordinate people...not award territory to the nearest country based on geography. Fuck what Ceutans and Melillans freely want, give it to North Africa, famously pure anti-colonialists.

Someone should ask why the Moroccans are all so Muslim and Arab despite being in North Africa  Thinking

For the real fun, do it with Palestine.

In a just world, after everything Europeans did all over Africa there should not be territory controlled by Europeans on Africa.

It is funny how the Spanish still claim sovereignty over Gibraltar after centuries of English dominion but when it comes to Ceuta and Melilla their instance is "please consider we have been here for a long time".

I guess it's too much to expect anything of old colonialists besides hypocrisy.

Naturally, without the novelty and his passing, you are left with the raw materials, and frankly a climax where a bunch of Black and Indigenous folks are killing each other while the CIA is just off in the background observing was fucking bunk to me. I saw that shit once and have never wanted to see it again, and frankly I don't know why y'all ain't tired of these liberal-ass films either.
Wait, what does she believe the plot and resolution of it should it have been? T'Challa accepts outsider Killmonger was right and they dramatically alter Wakandan culture in pursuit of some petty personal vengeance? Isn't Killmonger a Western imperialist seeking to steal Wakandan wealth, should they not stop him from overthrowing an Indigenous state?

Also, funny how a few years ago she was posting about how it was the first movie ever made for Black people and suggesting anyone who disparaged it as just another superhero film was a white supremacist, now she's claiming it's so terrible she couldn't watch it ever again after the first horrible time because the big budget Disney film preferred standard plot over extreme incoherent ideological rigidity to please an audience of one.

Eternals and Cap 4 were bad while Black Panther 2 was mid. Spider-Man coasts by because "omg Toby and Andrew!" but I feel if I watched it again, I wouldn't be so amenable to it. Shang-Chi was enjoyable even with Awkwafina in it. Haven't bothered with the rest of the canon since Cap 4.

EDIT: Remembered I actually saw Deadpool and Wolverine. There's like, two scenes I like from that film.

Nepenthe wrote:My point is that great talent on paper is constantly hamstrung by Disney's corporate environment. These films are ultimately products that must adhere to arbitrary mandates. The fact that, despite billions of dollars and said great talent, they couldn't get a simple vampire killer project off the ground despite producing duds like Quantumania and Eternals, mainly because they "wanted to find a compelling story" (read: insert some corny liberal bullshit to try and recreate the fervor around Black Panther) says it all.

Don't act so presumptuous. It didn't fly over my head; I'm the one who brought it up. Coogler fails to actually deliver any meaningful commentary about the issue other than how tragic it is that it's happening, because it's not like the CIA actually lost anything from the deal at the end of the movie. The conflict ultimately peters out because of a random vision.

It's such a nothingburger film about inter-minority conflict, and I'd like to believe that this is primarily because it's a Disney movie and utterly destroying the CIA was never going to be in the cards. It's why they don't destroy the colonial project of Arendelle in Frozen 2. It's why Nick becomes a cop in Zootopia. Hell, it's why in Black Panther 1 they decide to open up a school in Chicago.

It's all just fucking liberalism, which is why it was so annoying that they were even trying to doll up Blade into some fucking "social commentary" about Blackness to begin with. It was always going to be hackneyed because Blackness as a culture is fundamentally antithetical to capitalism and empire, which Disney supports.

Like, once you watch Sansho the Bailiff, you can't go back.

What is supposed to be “Blackness as a culture”? Did you just discovered that people from African nations don’t exactly feel identified with Wakanda?

Whenever she talks about "Blackness" one needs to remember that she means "whatever Nepenthe personally thinks is best" and so "Blackness" is just being able to draw art while people sit on their porches talking, street music is playing, children are playing with chalk and nobody has to ever work at all because they can just borrow whatever they need from the community storehouse. And at the same time it's a demanding and violent hostility to whatever is believed to infringe upon this in any way. "Blackness" is the hostility she holds against the prison of her own making because of the assumption that nothing can ever be her own fault, that the results of her personal choices must have been imposed on her by a centuries old global conspiracy designed most of all to thwart Nepenthe. Even as everything around her proves this self-constructed mythology to be factually incorrect.

She thinks it's a bold radical critique that will awe others at her powers of theory and critique to attack Disney films for not depicting an extensive ethnic-driven mass murder followed by the restoration of normie suburbia but solely populated with Black people in fictional Afrocentric fashions. Black Panther failing to depict this is both a failure of Ryan Coogler and Disney for capitulating to capitalism's inherent anti-Blackness and has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that it would render the MCU defunct on both a narrative and business level while also being a terrible film nobody else would want to see.

Like calling her Pol Pot isn't really an exaggeration of her central views, she really truly believes in the total destruction of society so we can have the "opportunity" to redesign it from scratch based on her naive suburban American assumptions. That thread about apocalyptic fiction is the ideal looking glass for her simplistic belief structure that you can read underlying all her diatribes, she believes it a failure that they all depict the struggles of the collapse of life rather than the "opportunity" to construct Heaven on Earth without the limitations of existing society. Black Panther fails on similar grounds of not speaking to Nepenthe's desire for brutal moral cleansing of the Earth of the undeserving, the film rejects Killmonger's clearsighted view of this necessity. I just wish she'd revisit Need For Speed: Heat and see it also comes up short.

Son of a feudal governor reclaims his aristocratic heritage after traumatic events and is appointed a feudal governor purely because of his birth and uses his imperially granted power to (illegally?) punish someone for personal reasons then resigns without facing any consequences for his abuse of power or further using his power to correct other social ills let alone utterly destroying the inherent exploitation of the feudal system. Having restored his identity he returns to a life of privilege provided by the feudal system.
