Elon predicts that we won't have phones, apps, operating systems or emails but just an endless stream of AI slop run through AI delivered to us on a screen we carry with us.

Most of what people consume in 5 to 6 years will just be AI generated content.

If you leave the hardware part of it out (we'll still have computers, phones, etc.) and stretch the timeline out to 30 years, I think I'd be unsurprised to see something like this happen.

I keep making the point that people, generally, were already moving toward consuming what is functionally AI-generated content, way before "AI" as currently understood was a topic. Every podcast has the same vocal cadence, every youtube content creator follows the same script and speaks in the same youtube-voice, all the twitch streamers follow the same recipe in how to present their streamer space/engage with chat/etc. Vtubers already took out a huge part of the human element of even watching streams. 

Outside of the parasocial entertainment realms, so many of the shows/movies hit the same notes, discuss the same topics and in the same ways. In literature, the YA and romantasy genres are self-replicating and self-aware ocean of 400-page madlibs. Think about 20 years ago, how fast reality TV became so recognizably formulaic, and still uses essentially the same format today.

People like this stuff, they want more of it. And they've always liked it! You don't need a human mind to sit down keep churning out permutations, a computer can do all of the above just fine.

and as usual, the best content will eventually rise to the top

yes some good things will slip through the cracks as they do now, but handing more people the keys to realize their dreams for whatever story they want to tell can only result in more diversity of content, more things that might potentially tailor to your specific tastes
