They know the politicians don't get that money, right? It's all been spent on ads and such.
Look at all the money El-Sayed is personally pocketing!
https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2026/07/pacs-galore-michigans-democratic-senate-primary-is-now-a-super-pac-battleground/ wrote:The main super PAC backing El-Sayed – Fighting for Michigan PAC – has played a smaller but still significant role in the race’s outside-spending landscape. Through June 30, the committee raised nearly $2.5 million and held $1.1 million in cash on hand. As of July 17, it reported spending more than $1.8 million on the race.
Much like A Stronger Michigan, its operations are rooted far closer to the Washington Beltway than the Motor City, and its headquarters is also linked to its treasurer. Peter Sarasohn, who serves as both treasurer and custodian of records, runs the PAC out of a Silver Spring, Md., townhome that he previously listed on FEC documents as his home address. Sarasohn, a veteran Democratic operative who was budget director for Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign, now runs a consulting firm and also serves as treasurer of Maine Senate candidate Troy Jackson’s exploratory committee. He did not immediately respond to OpenSecrets’ request for comment.
Fighting for Michigan has drawn criticism from Stevens over its funding sources, with the congresswoman claiming during a July 7 debate that El-Sayed “has a super PAC that is run by his father-in-law.” One of the committee’s top donors is indeed Michigan nephrologist Jukaku Tayed, El-Sayed’s father-in-law, who has contributed $300,000 across three $100,000 installments between Feb. 3 and June 22. But while super PACs – which may raise and spend unlimited sums – are prohibited from coordinating that spending with federal candidates, there is no credible evidence that the super PAC is “run by” Tayed, as Stevens claimed.
Another super PAC, American Priorities, spent just over $350,000 as of July 16 to support El-Sayed, FEC records show. That committee formed earlier this year to counter AIPAC spending in Democratic primaries. Funded in part by $1 million contributions from Omer Hasan and Mohammad Waqas – two top donors to a super PAC supporting New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani – it spent $1.6 million to back Adam Hamawy’s congressional bid in New Jersey and $1.1 million on Nida Allam’s in North Carolina.

Italia wants corporate money out of politics, but is also deeply skeptical of far-left policies on policing and immigration. El-Sayed describes himself as a capitalist and is not endorsed by the Democratic Socialists, but shares a similar policy platform to many of their candidates, such as abolishing ICE. Many pundits see Michigan as a test case for how candidates on the left can fare in battleground states.
Italia says she is still open to either Democratic candidate winning her vote. "I left both parties a long time ago," she says. "I've always gone with the vote of how I believe. And I'm doing that again this year."

And she did leave because she's not a straight-ticket voter. Nowhere did she say she switched from voting from Democrats to voting for all Republicans. She mentioned two candidates.
This is especially rich for a supposed politics knower to attack someone in Michigan for when someone who votes for Trump and then votes Democratic down-ballot is in fact the marginal voter of Michigan. The same person who elected Whitmer and has previously elected Democrats to every Senate seat, while also voting for Trump and Rick Snyder. it's actually crazy how you can breed a dog to stop everything and hold perfectly still and point directly at something its master would be interested in, like even the babies just do it spontaneously
could we breed this behavior into a human? why not?

Non exhaustive Nepenthe quotes:
Quote:Yep. Era is completely reactionary and ignorant of dogs and dog behavior in general to a level that tumbles down into inanity whenever certain issues or breeds come up. Frankly, there is no point in dog-centric discussions on this site.
Quote:I don't think the way that particular "dog" (in quotation marks because no one knows what a pitbull is) is looked at nowadays is inseparable from race given that its reputation started tanking when it started being associated with low-class and urban life, aka, folks that look like you and me, despite its pre-established history in Europe as a fighting dog.
Indeed, there are a lot of facets of dogs and dog culture that are inextricably intertwined with white culture and white supremacy, whether we're talking about the way in which police and service dogs are fawned over and that inevitable crossover with right-wing culture (as much as I love balanced dog training, a lot of balanced dog trainers are basically Trumpers) to the ways in which white people openly express greater affection and affinity for dogs versus races they deem inferior, to the ways in which this affinity- nay, this humanization and worship- leads to unchecked behavior on part of the dog that is legitimately dangerous to people and the dog.
You know, dialectics.
Here's another good video on it:
Dead man walking
Nepenthe wrote:Dewot wrote:It really seems you're more concerned with whether or not someone who doesn't like pitbulls might secretly be a crypto-racist than whether the pitbull is actually much more likely to attack them in real life. No, the argument they made is that people haven't based their fear of pit bulls on rigorous research. Which is correct. Nepenthe wrote:Floen wrote:A couple of eugenicist white british men didn't invent black people
They did invent pit bulls however. I mean, the concept of "Blackness" was indeed borrowed from racist whites observing slavery in the Middle East and solidified during the Transatlantic Slave Trade. And the concept of "whiteness" was also invented by racist whites as a way to further stymie class rebellion during slavery.
Race is we conceive of it is also an invention by white people, but ironically it has far less material and genetic basis for its existence than any given dog breed they were cooking up in Europe. It's completely sociopolitical. Aside: How is BBLSpiderman not a Boys' Club username?
Nepenthe wrote:Advance.Wars.Sgt. wrote:TBF, I'd nope the fuck out too if I saw my opp who ran an extensive anti-wolf campaign at one point that nearly wiped my entire species out. Another fun fact: Portuguese and Spanish settlers were so terrified of the maned wolf (which is a shy animal that has a surprisingly vegetarian diet) because it reminded them of the Iberian wolf, and it was on sight with them.
Like, this thing is just chilling eating wolf apples and getting blown with the mac because of a case of mistaken identity. Quote:Turns out when people are really scared of something, they don't actually care about the science and data of the thing they're afraid of.
It's just a difference of degree then as to when the reactionary behavior goes from "rational concerns of safety" to intellectually repugnant
Nepenthe wrote:QuigleyMcShine wrote:Comparing the pitbull debate to racism just seems like a way to unnecessarily raise the emotional temperature of the conversation and make everyone angrier without actually adding to the discussion. I don't think people who dislike/hate pitbulls actually care about the quality of the discussion to begin with, mainly because they are usually the ones shitting up the conversation with low-quality contributions.
Secondly, it is dishonest to act like there is not a racial component around the way Western society acts with dogs, whether we are talking about certain forms of training, the role dogs have had throughout history in reinforcing white supremacy, and subsequently the way dog breeds move in and out of favor with the general (read: white) population depending upon how that dog breed is socially perceived.
Nepenthe wrote:slust wrote:Ironically I think statistically more children kill people per year than pitbulls School shootings alone kill more children than dogs do in a year.
Nepenthe wrote:Mazzo wrote:any dog big enough can be scary True but not every big loose dog breed is treated equally.
bionic77 wrote:I don't want to compare those two things. That is pointless.
But there are a ton of serious dog bites in the US every year. It's not a pointless comparison because people here are arguing that pitbulls are an extreme threat.
Regardless, there's like around 800k bites in a year that require medical attention in a country with nearly 90 million dogs.
Statistically, you are more likely to get put on a shirt by fentanyl than a pitbull.
Nepenthe wrote:Kalem wrote:I got shit to do, but why do I have to put myself in harm's way unecessarily to appease the sensibilities of a dog owner? What is the statistical risk of getting mauled by a dog being walked by someone?
Nepenthe wrote:Kalem wrote:I don't feel safe with the average dog's training. Not even my own mini-toy schnauzer gets treated as safe, even if at worst she would break skin. I step down the sidewalk when someone is coming when I'm walking her and since most owners won't do the same, I choose to err on the side of caution You didn't actually answer my question.
Nepenthe wrote:Kalem wrote:I don't have to. The statistical chance of getting struck by lightning is super low but we do still follow common sense rules about seeking shelter don't we? And you are more likely to be assaulted by a man you know versus a man you don't. However, you take more precaution around strangers than non-strangers, yes?
Quote:Well that is indeed my point. We don't always practice risk assessment in rational or scientifically-supported ways. Subsequently I find crossing the street- putting yourself statistically at higher risk of injury from traffic- in order to avoid the much lower risk of getting bit by a leashed dog to be utterly silly.
Indeed, lack of analytical rigor permeates dog discussions on Era that isn't showing off a new dog or lamenting one's pet being put down, and for the life of me I have no idea why people act like reactionaries.
Minthara wrote:Like.. Any dog that is over 30-50 pounds and has any kind of pull strength should not only always be on a leash, but should also be on a properly fitted harness as well.
Instead awful owners use shit like collars or, even worse, chokers, which just cause the dog to get even more aggressive because its being yanked around by the neck all the time.
Harnesses are mandatory for dogs over 50 pounds where I live, and while my dogs have always had them, so many people have their large dogs off harness AND off leash and its ridiculous.
Also, as a parent, too many parents tell their kids to approach dogs without asking and by approaching a dog via their face. That is the WORST way to approach a dog that doesn't know you, as many of their sensitive organs are located in the face that kid is reaching for.
So many times I've had kids just randomly try to touch my dogs, or parents ask if they can pet my dog and give me the stink eye when I say no because I know they haven't trained their kids at all on proper approach. Plus the kids are often overly giddy when they see the dog and are approaching and thats not a recipe for anything good either when approaching a 120 pound dog who thinks you want to play.
...I could write a book on bad owners and bad parenting leading to these kinds of incidents.
My kids grew up with our dogs (from newborn babies, when our dogs were 80-100 pounds and could smoosh them without blinking) and even to this day they know to give the dogs space when they need it, what signs to look for and to never, EVER approach a dog without permission.
Translation: Why living with my dogs is like living with a homicidal abusive spouse
OR
Everyone needs to teach their infant children the proper way to approach dogs (via parachute drop, coming in from the 10 o’clock angle at a speed slower than a casual jog) so that I can bring my killing machines into public spaces without guilt

You know, dialectics. Which part of these random complaints about dog culture is the dialectics?

This "and subsequently" is not subsequent as it's the entire explanation for the first two. Unless, and I can't immediately discount this being the actual intended claim of this poorly written sentence, the theory is that the dog breeds socially favored by the white population are those best able to reinforce white supremacy. Which I think explains the modern proliferation of those awful tiny dogs in purses.
Additionally, I want to point out how that entire section of the sentence is an entirely tautological redundant statement which adds nothing, especially "subsequently." Things in favor with the population are those socially perceived positively.
She can't even express her argument the right way around let alone in a concise manner: "we live in a white supremacist culture, so the dogs that are favored are those that reflect white supremacy. The only reason anyone could dislike a certain breed of dog is because it's not white-coded enough for the culture to approve of it."

Honestly I like the Tiger analogy. Yes you can train them to be cuddly but when things go wrong they go wrong hard. You wouldn't trust someone who can barely manage their own lives to handle an animal like that.
Minthara is such an insufferable cunt. Easily a top 10 WOAT poster.
