Introduction

When doing moderation on Resetera, the golden rule is to do the opposite thing to what would be the right thing to do. The following is an extensive list of scenarios in which you may be tempted to do the right thing, but in fact this would be the wrong thing to do.

I saw some people (young kids, I presume) kicking up a storm online about this, saying it's "offensive," "misses the plot," and "trivializes SA by making a victim a walkabout scare actor." I can maybe sort of stretch myself a bit to see where they're coming from and recognize that their heart is probably in the right place, but oof. Feels like folks are really looking to kick up dust over nothing here. Some of those same people were arguing in earnest that they should still incorporate Obsession into the event, but make Bear the walkabout character, lol.

I feel like we're in for a wave of capital-D Discourse here, and it'll inevitably come up again next year when there's a full Obsession house on both coasts too.

You saw some empathetic takes on SA and assumed they were young kids? I suppose that'd be oddly reaffirming.

I'm going to be real with you for a sec. I initially wasn't going to engage because SA is something i cannot engage with lightly and this is a light thread. The way you initially couched your argument in ad hominem in order to seemingly pre-emptively characterise anyone who might disagree with you as a stupid, ignorant, immature kid who can't think things through is obnoxious generally but especially so with the topic of SA and the very complex and deep trauma it involves. I wish you had simply presented your argument without that.

Now, I half-agree and half-disagree with you; I have a mixed take. But since you were so dismissive of disagreement on a topic that is very difficult for me to speak on, I will say nothing more. My hope is you will take this criticism on board and be a little more mindful and circumspect with this topic next time.

I always thought you're supposed to get better at work the more you do it. I feel like I'm getting worse. Like I'm eroding. I know, fundamentally, in my bones, that I am in the complete wrong line of work. The way my brain works is so. Antithetical to how my job requires work to be done that even initiating a task requires such profound levels of concentration I feel I'm about to rupture a blood vessel. I work some corporate office job that requires me to admin work, tracking innumerable small objectives and follow-up items that come in from emails, Slack messages or just random conversation. Now, I don't think of myself as an unorganized or lazy person. In fact it's almost the opposite. My problem is that I have absolutely zero ability to direct my attention.

When something interests me, I focus on it with an obsessive attention that is likely not healthy. I'll skip lunch, stay up late and be unable to think of anything else because my brain will constantly be coming up with new ideas. But the opposite is true too. If something doesn't interest me, it's almost impossible to manufacture motivation. I'll open an email and by the end of reading it my head hurts and my chest is tightening. I feel like I need to manually fire all the neurons in my system just to keep upright at my desk.

I had the same problem when I was in school and I was made to feel like it was a moral failure. People would say if I could focus on my creative projects with such devotion, I should be able to focus on coursework. Logically I understand it, but I never found that particularly helpful because at no point have I ever felt like I have control over what my brain focuses on. Even if I have no immediate distractions around me, simply listening to someone talk can be a challenge because my mind will wander.

Sometimes I just feel like I'm lazy or stupid, which I don't want to be. Like when I was a teenager, I was named the national representative of this organization. I was flown around the country to speak at conventions and conferences, to give media interviews and serve as the face of the organization. The same year I finished with a 2.8 GPA, I traveled more than 200,000 miles around the country (maybe related statistic). And even now my friends and family generally describe me as a smart person who is unusually dedicated to what captures him. But at work I am definitely seen as the weak link. I feel like I have real value to offer, but not in the way I am currently being used.

But I'm also scared to quit. School was such a struggle for me I never ended up finishing. After six years in a bachelors program, I managed to talk my way into a corporate job at a tech company and dropped out. Now I'm making six figures with no degree in a field that typically requires specialized education. So if I leave this job there's no guarantee I find another one that pays as well. And all the stuff outside the work I enjoy. I like the people I work with. I like the company. The benefits, the PTO. It's all great. It's just the literal minute-to-minute work that feels like it's eating away at my soul. My girlfriend is getting concerned that all I talk about at home is how stressed I am at work.

Is this normal growing pains or adult experience?

So with potentially less that 6-7 months till the release of Pokémon WLW next year, is there anything you really want from the games? Like some brand new feature, new customization? New Gimmicks etc?



Like from character creation, I hope we can change your pronouns, Z-A was good with removing the restriction when it came to clothing options, they really need to go the full Tepig and just let you change your gender. Also and I realize the chances of this happening are next to zero, but I would also like to be able to confirm your sexuality; not necessarily for romance, I doubt we'd ever have a game we romance besides possible implications, but more just for yourself like a little flag in your house, maybe a bit of extra dialogue here or there. I think it would be good for kids to be allowed to do that, many kids realize their not straight young (like myself) and it would be nice to express that in a beloved game like Pokémon.



Also also and I realize this idea is less then zero chance, so low it's gone down the black hole where Luvdisc's evolution is, but I would like gay Pokémon, like a 10% chance for a Pokemon to be gay (with some species like Woobat and Girafarig going up to 40% to 50%) where Love Balls only work on them if you have a Pokémon of the same gender out (like how the worked in Gen 2) and moves like Attract didn't work unless done by a Pokémon of the same gender. I realize I might be the only person who'd love that but... Yeah screw you all I'd love that (:



Also when it comes to character creation, I kind of hope when can change our clothes right away without having to buy clothes. It's always annoying to me you can customize your gender, face, hair etc... But stuck in clothes that don't match you at all and have to waste your money getting new clothes, especially annoying in Sw/Sh where it took half the base game to get clothes that I actually liked. Let me have basic clothing options right from the start for free in character creation (honestly wish more RPGs did that). Also let me dye clothes any colours I want, Z-A was so frustrating for me given how few clothes were available in green (or the fact the game locked hair dye options away behind side missions, making it harder for my character to look the way I wanted them to, please don't do that again).



I realize it's unlikely but I was love Contests or something like that to happen again, I think the Gen 3 remakes did much to make that enjoyable and it's sad we've never really had a side game like that again since they were removed post Gen 4. Same with Triple battles.



I really REALLY hope they don't force raids, locking Pokemon behind them, I didn't like that at all, I don't like raids, not just Pokemon, I don't like MMO like raids, they always end up joyless and toxic and I didn't like so much of S/V's end game was stuck behind them. Just let me catch the new legendaries outside that mode. Let the multiplayer exist without negatively affecting the single player. I'm still bitter I barely got to use the Kalos starter megas because they were pointless trapped behind Z-A's multiplayer. Just let me play the games single player style.



I really hope you can interact with the Pokémon, talk to them, pet them, play with them, let them act like actual monsters and animals rather then just tools for battle, both SV and Z-A felt like downgrades in that regard, I hope WLW in an improvement with that.
