Hm, maybe "resent" is too strong of a word, judging by people's reactions so far in this thread.

I guess what I "resent" is that I'm not excited for what should've been one of my most anticipated games ever because of the road it has taken to get here and the circumstances under which it's finally releasing. And like someone else said earlier, I do kind of resent that GTAO was popular enough to basically allow for no new GTA games to be made in over a decade. But I get that that's not Rockstar's fault, really.

Basically, my feelings probably shouldn't be as laser-targeted toward Rockstar themselves and should be more just generally annoyed with the state of modern AAA game development, online gaming, and billions being made by MTX all coming together to prevent us from getting new entries in great franchises at a more respectable clip like we used to.

Although I do legitimately resent Rockstar for going digital-only after all this time for such a landmark release. That I won't forgive one iota, and honestly don't bother posing a counterargument for that one. I don't wanna hear it. Just look at how the only complete versions of the old GTA games are the original disc releases because of the games being stripped of music gradually over the years as licenses expired. Fuck that.

OP went through the same "crisis" with the Switch 2 because it came out in 2025 instead of 2024.

I played Horizon and the fact that it had years worth of development attached to it amazed me. It felt like something that’d been in the works for 10-12 months tops. The reports about people turning the game off midway through missions is accurate too. 

Unironically would’ve performed slightly better than Concord, maybe 1k CCU if it released as it was.

It'll be interesting to see if the game kills the industry or not. People on both sides of the aisle are being fucking weird and obsessive over it. No game should be this big. Filtering 20+ threads on the front page every time I visit the site is not fun, and it's only going to get worse for the next year. Wish GTAVI could have it own subforum to contain them.

It's massive, yet I've never felt one iota of excitement for it given the reasons I outlined in the OP. That's what I'm sad about. That the circumstances of its release have all come together to make me not even care about what should be a very, very exciting release in one of my (formerly) favorite game franchises.

The mode I played was basically an MMO dungeon raid where you traverse through a boring looking neon metal environment, fight waves of enemies and then a boss with some light crash bandicoot style platforming to get from room to room. The characters spam basic melee/ranged moves and the upgrades were all +0.5% attack speed etc. Enemies are copy-pasted from the first two games. 

There’s really wasn’t much to it which explains the lack of leaks.

I've felt this way for a long while now, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone else express similar sentiments as my own when it comes to Grand Theft Auto 6.



While most of the world seems to be experiencing record-levels of hype and anticipation for this game, I've mostly only ever felt resentment toward it. I resent that Rockstar milked GTAV for over a decade with their evergreen online mode that printed money via MTX. I resent that after all this time it's only getting a digital release. I resent that many of the people that were the driving force behind the GTA games back when I loved them are no longer with the company. It's mostly nothing but negative feelings towards this garguantuan, long overdue game on my end.







Please understand: I loved every prior GTA game. The legendary run of the PS2 trilogy was something I'm so happy to have experienced firsthand as it happened in my teen years, and the staggering quality and ambition of both GTA4 and 5 on the PS3 (and beyond) had me hooked for months as an adult. Like many others, I always felt that Rockstar made by far the best open-world games that felt far more detailed and hand-crafted and less bloated with repetition than most other games in the genre. And that very well might end up being the case for GTA6 as well when it finally releases, but I just feel too angry at the path it has taken to release to want to play it and support them.



We got Vice City (my favorite in the series) less than a year after GTA3. And I know that was a different time (and that was insane turnaround even for the time), but I just can't square present-day Rockstar with the Rockstar that did that. Present-day Rockstar was content to just re-release GTAV three times while raking in money with its MTX-riddled online mode. They were happy to skip an entire fucking console generation without even attempting to make a new entry. From a financial standpoint, obviously I can understand. But from an artistic standpoint, it all feels hollow to me in a way that the old GTA games never did. They always felt like this rare, perfect blend of artistic and technical ambition with some of the broadest overall appeal of any game series out there. GTA6 doesn't feel like that to me, and it's mostly because of how long they took to even attempt making it and how they're going about finally releas
ing it.

He's still gonna pre-order the ultimate edition and get it digitally anyway.
