Because Austin was the victim and not on trial, and that would allow them to bring up Karmelo's background as well, and things Karmelo did in the past and on that day are far more relevant to trial than Austin doing something racist in elementary school or middle school.

The jury hearing that Karmelo had previously assaulted teachers and tried to bring weapons and knifes to school and other places would have instantaneously damned him and possibly given him a worse punishment. OP left it out of this topic, but the article explains that Karmelo had also been using racial slurs, was homophobic, previously threatened to murder people, had committed armed robberies, etc. On the day of the murder, he was stalking his girlfriend who was breaking up with him to try to prevent it, which is why he was so violent that day. He brought the knife to school while stating that he was on the verge of something (likely killing or hurting someone).

If this information was allowed in court, he would have been painted as a terrifying, violent psycho who liked to use threats of murder to get what he wanted. Karmelo would absolutely not have been acquitted, so his defense agreed to not go after Austin's character.

I've been a reader of Resetera for a very long time now, and wanted to join in the conversations for quite some time, but was never sure I'd be accepted, and finally thought, "Well, i won't know if i don't try!" haha.

With the rest of the internet becoming so hostile & awful and owned by all the worst people we know of now, I've stepped away from all the social spaces i used to enjoy, and now only hang on my YouTube channel where i post favourite moments from live shows/parties I've attended, the handful of bands reddit pages i'm currently a member, and my own bands' profiles over on what's left of Soundcloud & Bandcamp.

I've been into music, art & gaming since i was the youngest youngling going back to my step-dad's Atari 2600 & my own first console, the Sega Master System II, and prefer my news to be fact-checked and verified - something increasingly difficult to find online in the age of misinformation, disinformation & generative "ai" slopganda, but have found folks here are still big on facts & updating info when new info comes to light, while most other places are more and more quite the opposite now.

But i digress, this place has kinda felt like home to me even as an outsider-looking-in, a place where people still treat each other like people (imagine that!), with mutual respect, kindness, inclusivity & basic human decency still seen as things worth holding onto, so yeah, super happy to be here at last! ☺️👍

Let me ask you guys, would you consider like sites that remove the background from an image to be like a flagrant use of AI? Because I have used that a bit to make YouTube thumbnails but don't generate anything

See I guess my worry is A) I'll find myself taking shortcuts down the line in other ways and B) if I'm using AI for that people might think my other content is AI.

Though I guess you can't really tell if it's done by hand or person really---I usually use it to separate a character from a screenshot of a game or anime which seems pretty difficult to accurately do by hand. It was useful for extracting sprites from a game recently since I couldn't figure out how to do so the old-fashioned way through an emulator, which I imagine uses similar AI in the process?

Also, before Photoshop, isolating an image from its background involved hand-cutting masks, cutting film with a knife, creating the mask, and pasting the art for reproduction. Commercial art departments and print shops employed thousands of people specifically for this prepress, paste-up, retouching work. I think the story is notorious enough by now. Monstrous budget GAAS class-based shooter, inspired by the likes of Destiny, Guardians of the Galaxy, Overwatch and Apex Legends, received enormous support by Sony - first from support as a publishing partner, then later by buying developer Firewalk Studios long before the game was even shown to public. Massive expectations, big marketing budget, big streamers paid to play, an Amazon show featuring the behind the scenes for the game as there clearly was the expectation that a truly iconic FPS was about to drop.



While pre-order numbers and such were poor from what we saw, with the game I remember lagging behind the pre-orders of 2024's Monster Truck game on PS5, which was its main platform alongside PC, the actual rollout was a now historic flop unfortunately. Despite passable player feedback and reviews (62 Metacritic is narrowly positive, after all), the game dropped on to astonishingly low player numbers in its completely free to access beta on both platforms, with the launch numbers for the launch on August 23, 2024 being even worse for a total of 25k sales or so estimated in the end.



I did not end up buying the full game at launch, as its fate was already clear and I wasn't blown away from the beta, but to me it really drove home something that still keeps happening. Shipping a "solid" game was simply not enough to sway players away from ridiculously polished and content-pacled competition of Warzone, Fortnite, Overwatch, etc. anymore. What worked for Destiny, The Division, Overwatch, etc. did so because they had an "it" factor that addicted people, and there also weren't already several active and popular games doing it.



Ultimately, Concord for me failed because it simply lacked something truly great about it. The shooting was serviceable, but not better than the competition. The maps felt designed for a different game. The character designs were confusing, and forcing players to rotate them made sense on paper but it's kinda the antithesis of a "casual" playstyle that many seek. It lacked a reason for me to drop my then current FPS obsessions, it simply was not enough. Nobody was going to buy a 40 dollar game that's "maybe okay" when all their friends already play more popular and better GAASes.



And what did the industry and Sony learn from this? Well, we know Sony canceled or repurposed many of their upcoming GAAS projects, but ultimately I feel like most of the lessons will be seen down the line, as this sort of AAAA GAAS project takes 5-8 years to create nowadays and it would be late for many projects to meaningfully pivot, short of a cancelation probably. Also, I feel like most big publishers don't really care about Concord going sideways. They know the kind of cash Warzone, Fortnite or Apex Legends can make. They are okay with risking 1, 2, 5 high profile flops, because if they nail it once, they'll get billions. But as the competition gets tighter and tighter, it becomes increasingly more difficult to make a splash, especially with reactionary games like Concord that pretty much just try to do something that already exists. And this is costing a lot of opportunity costs, as well, see Horizon 3 being basically nowhere because of the (now essentially canned) GAAS spin-off Hunters Gathering.

This is one peculiar thing I've noticed about single men--I'm in that same category. We rarely have snack foods.

Families have snacks--obviously. Kids eat all the time and you don't want to cook a full meal for them all the time.

In my experience, both with family members, dating, and platonic female friendships, women tend to have more snacks in their home. Just in their home, but in the cars, purses, etc.

Not to exclude the rest of the posters here, the question is open to everyone. If you want to indefinite your demographic, up to you. Are you a snack person?

I'm usually not. I do keep some fruit. But I'm generally not a snack person. I have no issues with snacks, I've just trained myself to have big main meals.
