Reinforcements on turn 2 of the SECOND FUCKING MISSION is a dick move on every conceivable level. What the actual fuck, level designers? I have no healing.

I think I'm already bouncing off of this. The sheer amount of reinforcements spam they're throwing at me in every mission when I literally don't even have enough actions to not constantly get killed is stressful and miserable. I still only have 3 members in my squad and they just dropped six new enemies on me in a single turn.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it far enough to get a full squad without having a panic attack every fucking mission?

I can't even get to exfil because I'm being overwhelmed by shit from every goddamn direction. That's exactly the problem. There's just too much reinforcements spam.

So just before I keep going, please be honest with me, folks.

Is "LOL REINFORCEMENTS" going to be a trope in every single mission or is this just the game being a dick early on when you have shit gear and shit skills and shit stats and things even out once your characters aren't pathetically fragile wimps that die in two turns?

Because if every mission is gonna be like this I think I gotta stop. Reinforcements aren't fun when they're used every single mission.

My issue is reinforcements are basically a full respawn of the entire enemy force while you have depleted resources. If it was one or two guys it would be one thing but "lol you took too long to kill everyone here's LITERALLY SIX MORE" is just...incredibly dickish design. That's not "keeping it challenging", it's punishing the player for having bad RNG by making missions literally double in length.

Ah well. Shame Steam's refund policy is shit because this would've been good to know before I wasted 50 bucks. I'll give it one or two missions to change my mind and then I'll probably just uninstall.

My problem is they're doubling the enemy count two turns into a mission. If I have ONE character miss a single shot, that means the whole mission doubles in length. That's not creative design, it's punishing the player for not savescumming every single turn until they get a positive result on every single action.

If reinforcements came in after 6 or 7 turns because you're being too slow, or if they trickled in 2 or 3 at a time, I get it. But two or three turns you barely have enough time to move because of how minuscule the action economy is. So the enemy force flat-out doubling in size just feels like spite for not playing perfectly. Going from 6 enemies to 9 is one thing, but going from 6 enemies to twelve is a different one.

The one with the battle droids kept respawning reinforcements but the skinny droids died in one shot to everybody. It was only the heavy droids that could survive any sustained fire. Annoying but trivial.

But human enemies seem to be a lot more tanky when they spawn in and it's pretty brutal to have six more of them all spawn in with perfect cover when you're dealing with a bunch of wounded operators and already burned through all your one-use attack items.

My experience so far is that three shots is usually a down in normal mode. If you take three hits you're pretty much done for.

But thinking pragmatically, maybe I just need to wait a few days. I'm still coming down off of one of my worst anxiety attacks in 20 years today, so maybe the stress is just uniquely keyed to trigger my brain in the worst ways right now. Maybe once that cloud is gone it'll be easier to roll with the bullshit.

I don’t know what you want us to say to this. Turn the game all the way down from normal if you want. It has that option. It is fine to do so. That’s why the difficulties are there.

The other option is better learning the systems.

On topic, I do really wish people as a whole and especially Americans would stop minimizing actions like this name change to just "trolling". It is an incredibly significant action to many Canadians and within the context of the numerous annexation threats we've faced over the past two years both economically and militarily it is not just some small thing like "trolling" to us.

At least in the mission I watched in that video I posted, the REINFORCEMENTS are because you'd otherwise have eliminated all the enemies by the next turn or so. I imagine PlanetSmasher's probability warping power is altering the dice rolls so his characters always miss.
