It really is a joke isn't it? A group of 4-5 insane people came into the thread, called everyone a Nazi and now you can't talk about Nvidias future tech anymore. B-dubs slaps half of them with a 1 week ban and then goes back to wondering why his forum is shit.

Like is said, I think the filter looks shit 99% of the time but how fucking dumb is it when you can't even talk about it anymore.

Some users are wise enough to express their positivity towards the Nvidia's tech in the most milquetoast way possible that they can't get hit with a ban for "downplaying concerns" so the those insane people decided they'll just have to make discussion so toxic and deranged that B-Dumbs will be encouraged to close the thread. 
 
If they can't ban people for wrongthink then they'll just find a way to kill the discussion entirely (ideally it will eventually lead to adding nvidia to the banned content list). It's quite literally the same playbook as the Stellar Blade 2 outrage where the insane people got mad that users kept posting "looks great, can't wait to play it" without catching a ban so they deliberately made a honeypot thread to catch those users expressing positivity off-guard. Banbaiting is such a powerful strategy on REEEEE

Can't get people to engage with you so you can bait them into bans? Want a particular subject/topic be so toxic no one wants to bother bringing it up and have a discussion on it? Just go in and shit up the thread until the mods lock it. Sure, you may get a slap on the wrist via a 1-2 week ban, but you have successfully dissuaded the community from even entertaining the subject/topic you wanted to bury. B-Dubs and his mods knows about this tactic, but they are either sympathetic to the shit-stirrers' point-of-view or they are too lazy to properly moderate the discussion.

This was really the "second" derail or culmination of the first one. The thread had been crawling along and only had 10-ish pages. Then Crossing Eden and so on came into the thread upset that it wasn't negative enough and that there were people in the thread who were either a.) positive about the results or b.) not positive but could see the potential. And it escalated from there especially because there were a few posters who refused to abandon those positions under assault. Well before the Nazi accusations came out there were people throwing out claims it was astroturfing and AI cults trying to infiltrate Era to convert them. Lots of huffing and puffing about how this is desecrating the holy work of artists, Crossing Eden lecturing people about how game development "actually works", a guy pointing out that RTX shit also desecrates artists holy works but nobody seems to care let alone declaring the end of art and humanity getting ignored, etc.

I didn't actually go back to uncover the details, just clicked back onto random pages after someone near the end mentioned that the thread had blown up suddenly overnight.

Maybe the bad screenshots and such "blew up" on Bluesky or something, a Discord discovered how the thread wasn't negative enough, etc. I might say if I was the suspicious type that wrongly believed that Era posters acted in bad faith rather than elite intellectuals who just care about basic human decency and what mild faux-geometry added by the most expensive GPUs nobody can buy to games will do to the way we all see women.

It's why RE is such a fascinating forum to observe. The insane high post count users that have an unusual amount of sway on forum moderation are always drawing new lines for banworthy takes and opinions. We saw it in the Hasan thread where the usual suspects were lamenting that REEE is actually a evil liberal (which is the same as a far right fascist) forum because users were allowed to post that they don't like the dogshocker twitch streamer and don't believe he's the progressive savior of western civilization. Or how in the Showa American Story thread, some users dared to post how they weren't bothered by the female protag wearing daisy dukes because it's a common article of clothing among American women irl which prompted a banwave after the burka thread hammered their reports/discord DMs. And now we're seeing it again in the DLSS5 thread, the enemies are truly everywhere.

Cities like Vienna or the river Danube are called something totally different in some places of the world. So should people all around the world see all those variations? If other regions or locales had their own recognized names for the lake, they would probably show that name in that region (Canada only sees Ontario, for example). The default is to show both since there is a conflicting name between the two countries who share the lake.
