This is how a lot of polling, especially the polling on issues that Era swears by, works. The oldest one is ask Americans about universal health insurance and it also is like 80+%. Then ask them if they want it if their taxes go up and it collapses. Ask if people want Medicare4All with the actual tax increase that would be needed and it doesn't even get a plurality. Similar reason Obama was so insistent that "if you like your health insurance you can keep it" as it was going to literally become illegal.

Even something you think wouldn't be like this, like gun control or abortion, also falls apart if you start polling on the specifics. If one were cynical one might ask why all the pollsters continue to poll on the broad vague things knowing that none of it is representative of what is actually specifically supported.

I realize I bring this up quite a bit, but it's really hard for me to forget the launch of GTA5 and the absolute nastiness and hate that was happening online at ANYONE who criticized that game's sexism, the worse by Gamespot's review by Carolyn Petit which resulted in weeks beyond weeks of transphobia, death threads and hate. I really we're going to see round two of that I really hope ERA doesn't turn into that.

I actually didn't come in here to talk about GTA, I was going discuss my frustrations with online discourse whenever a woman with authority of some sort, whether a reviewer, historians, YouTuber, critic, scholar etc criticizes (hell in some cases just discusses) a popular or hyped piece of media or a popular man, they are abused, mocked and treated in way we never see with men who do the same thing.

You see this with YouTubers all the time and sadly incredibly common on the left. YouTubers like HBomberguy and Folding Ideas can be snarky, mean and sarcastic etc, but the moment a women YouTuber does the same not even at the same level it's "you're being too mean!" Women reviewers especially get this bad. It still pisses me off the "Too Much Water; 7.8/10" Pokemon review became so normalized and treated as fun joke when it's so obvious it was attack on a woman reviewer for daring to criticize hyped Remakes; an absolute act of hypocrisy when Pokemon fans had been criticizing the Gen III games for doing for a decade and STILL do, including the remake; yet the moment a woman reviewer said it, it suddenly became mockery worthy, funny that. Can't imagine why! /s

The thing that set this off was the Emily Wilson Odyssey criticism backlash because it's hard not to notice how so much of the backlash has nothing to do with what she actually she said or why she said; it's all because she criticized a film people liked and a Director (and a man) they like so it's acceptable to attack and mock her. Women should know their place after all, women can NEVER criticize a man or anything popular, that's the rule /s.

No one is saying you can't disagree or criticize women; but so often in online (and offline) discourse it's never actually about that, it's all about the fact a woman, regardless of credentials or experience criticized a popular work or person, that's it, what she actually she doesn't matter besides taking out of context quotes to mock and attack her (and far worse). And like it's not a rightwing or chud thing, so many of the left do this the moment their favourite or thing their hyped for it criticized (or in some cases, perceived to being criticized) and will always get defend by "her tone was bad", "she was being too mean" etc; the abuse and mockery justified with "Yes but...". I've seen so often in review threads on this site that I am so done with it. That's not even getting into how popular male game devs and directors can be snarky, abrasive and say stuff like "You will be ashamed of your words and deeds" and it will get laughed off and treated as good or an eccentricity, but with women it's treated like the worse thing possible.

Sorry for the rant.

Odd. I would expect GTA to have a lot of WLW.

Can you really be a trans woman if you have year-long intervals where you definitely feel like a dude?

Sounds more like you have moods/light depression and in your down days you go into "grass is greener mode".  That's like telling yourself you'd much happier if you lived in Sweden.

And as we've seen from the desperate housewives thread, transitioning seldom cures depression.

There's so much framing going on. For example David Crowley is presented as this pro-data center candidate and yet his actual policy proposals are stricter than what Abdul El-Sayed has. But what makes people mad about Crowley is that he just isn't angry enough and denounces data centers as the devil.

You can easily disable 100% the effect on faces and just stick with the enviroment changes.. in the game about "wizards and magic" looks fantastic with everything enabled and faces only modified by 0.30.

This DLSS effect is not suited for every game but in some of them works fantastic if you are fine with some changes on the artistic side. This is gonna be optional on every game so I'm fine with it if they make it better so it's as close as possible to the original artistic vision and performance improves 200%.

On the game about wizards I still hit 140 fps on 2k resolution maxed out with DLSS 5.

PS: half of the examples on this thread are from games not meant to use DLSS 5 and is never gonna be implemented in them (anime games for example) but since the dll leaked we are putting DLSS on anything just to see the results. Kingdom Hearts 3 is another good example where you achieve a good result with the effect on faces reduced to 30 or 50%. The framerate hit is big of course but you can still play at over 100 fps.

Gotta learn to like yourself somehow. It's a struggle for everyone. Take your time, figure things out for yourself, don't let anyone push you one way or the other if you don't feel it's right for you.

Kyuuji, post: 159935287, member: 31943 wrote:First of all, take the time to process it. It's a pretty major thing to come to terms with once you accept it, particularly depending on your personal situation and what it may disrupt. So take your time, be kind to yourself (I mean this – it's easy to throw a lot at yourself), and give yourself the space to decide what (if anything) you want to do next. Access to healthcare varies a lot around the world, if HRT is something you decide you want to pursue. For many it's life changing (and saving) but your identity is who you are, not what you do.

For now it seems like you're in the wake of it hitting you and understanding it, so just letting it settle in your head and the ways it might contextualise things about you/your past is probably a good call. Then, when you feel ready, you can think about what it means for where you want it to lead to.

In either case, don't feel isolated in your feelings, they're very common. For a lot of trans people acceptance that what you've been feeling means you're trans is the last stop after trying to fit other answers around it. It's a challenging path for many, but living a life fully as yourself is a genuinely worthwhile place to get to (trans, non-binary, or otherwise).

nomemorial, post: 159935482, member: 11066 wrote:OP, reading this post feels like looking in a mirror at myself a few years ago. what you're expressing feels extremely similar to what i experienced.

i spent a good portion of my life wondering about my transness in some capacity, even when i didn't really have the words for it. in my childhood i would pray that "god would just make me a girl," but i didn't really learn about transitioning as an option until my early 20s when a musician i was a fan of very publicly transitioned. i felt an odd sense of kinship that i just didn't quite understand and i think some part of me knew at the time, but i was in a committed, long-term heterosexual relationship with a woman and figured "well, i'm probably just being silly and this will go away."

fast forward to my 30s and my dysphoria was just...boiling over. everyday felt like my consciousness was floating at a greater distance from my body. this sense of...*disconnect* that i couldn't shake. i took a few lonely nights at home while my partner was away or something to sit down and try my hand at a face of makeup (hell, i'm pretty sure i may have even shared those results on this forum at some point before i actually came out lol) and i think in that moment i knew. looking in the mirror, seeing myself, even in shitty, shaky makeup, felt like exactly that - seeing myself. and even then, i still shoved it away into my mental closet for another year or two.

when i finally came out, the moments leading up to it looked a lot like what you're describing here. i had started consuming a bit more media about being trans, perhaps even with the hope that hearing trans people talk about it, seeing them express their feelings, would convince me they were different from my own -- instead, i gained an even greater understanding of myself and countless things that had confused or frustrated me about myself through my life. i reached a point where i could no longer deny it (and ended up finally cracking over an accidental self-referential "her" in a journal entry that sent me into a spiral of "i can't run from this any more")

i didn't want to be trans. i told my friends, my family, my partner. "i don't want this!" i said over and over again those early moments; i felt helpless and like transitioning was the only option i had left to try and heal whatever i thought was wrong with my brain. transition was a means to an end.

i'm now a little over 2 1/2 years on HRT. my life looks a lot different from how it looked when i came out. i have lost a lot. but i have gained even more -- most importantly, myself. and i very quickly lost the disdain i held for my transness. transition is far and away the greatest decision i've ever made in my life. i feel like a new person. confident and vibrant and complete. i never, ever, in a million years thought i, the person i was (or rather, the person i thought i was) could be the person i am now. and i am thankful every single day that i took the plunge, as terrifying as it was (and sometimes still is).

if you ever need an open ear or a brain to pick, my DMs are open. sending you a whole lot of love and hugs and warmth. you've got this!!

Lozange, post: 159935494, member: 3086 wrote:This isn't necessarily you (you certainly sound more like a trans woman overall, but you would know better), but I certainly relate to flip flopping all over the gender spectrum. "Maybe I should start hormones and become a woman" "maybe I should give up on gender stuff and become a big buff dude". Ultimately I now look back at a clear pattern and go "there's no cisgender explanation for this, non-binary works for me", since no matter how I'm feeling they/them always feels good, or at the very least neutral. To speak to your experience specifically, kissing my husband is one of the few times that I feel any sort of strong connection with masculinity, even if it's ultimately in a gay way. Perhaps it's similar but different with you.

The thing that helped me was *doing* something about it. Changing pronouns is a good start, but I would buy some feminine clothes. There's plenty of options available depending on your desires and needs - some tops are ambiguous enough that you might just look like a feminine dude, or people might not notice at all and it will just be for you (just go for a larger size than your masculine usual). Some dresses (even if you just wear them around the house) are cut and stitched in such a way that it looks like you have small boobs, even if you currently don't. Get some tights with a high denier rating, and you won't be able to see any body hair underneath. Grow your hair out, get your nails done! There's plenty you can do without it feeling like a huge commitment, that might make you feel tons better, or at least clarify things.

You know the rules by now. Post the thread

And of course the claim that an artist is directly funding genocide is the kind of thing you don't even need any evidence to know is true. If somebody says lots of people are saying something you can take it to the bank as factually correct. And really it's kind of gross to even question claims of genocide even if there's no victims, that's Holocaust denial, another thing she's directly funding.
