I remember one time I stopped talking to someone because he skipped my birthday party after promising to come, and when I asked him why, his response was 'if you knew why, you'd understand'. I went "ok, then tell me why", and he went "no."

In my head, I was just like "if this person doesn't care enough about me to be honest with me, I don't know why I'm wasting my time talking to him" and I just never spoke to him again.

both, for sure. this is happening in all sectors of journalism but trust in institutions is at an all time low so people move on to internet creators who fill a similar niche that are perceived as more knowledgable and honest(even if this isnt always the case).

This is the biggest issue. The mass audience will distrust established media outlets but blindly believe the influencer/YTuber for reasons few can understand. Given how many influencers promote brands because they are paid to should send warnings that their opinion can be (and is often) bought by a company... but people don't care. People yell that IGN/Gamespot/Etc coverage is bought when a score is high or too low; but then no longer care when an influencer praises/bashes a game and is actually paid by the company. Look at last week how many YTubers had 'Reaction' videos for Metal Slug and Fatal Fury being announced during the Direct. Countless 'Sponsored' videos for those two games and.... silence.

People few established media as uninformed and the enemy vs the influencer being their friend and incorruptible. The fact we see people say stupid stuff like, "YTuber reviews are more trustworthy" is so damn stupid. The only difference between the YTuber and an IGN/Gamespot review is the medium in which it is delivered.

I'm playing a Marvel game. All Marvel content is for kids. What does the M rating have to do with anything. The M rating just means that there's blood, not that the gameplay is complex.

QTEs have never had anything to do with skill. I really don't care at all if they auto complete.

I do think the devs can and will patch a lot of these elements. For example, the main issue with the scent line is the graphical design of it. It's very bright, too bright, too pronounced. They can make it a small scent, not a fart. There's different things like that where I suspect they've listened to focus group testing a little too much. On harder difficulities I think the driving sections should be much more punishing - make it a tiny bit hard.



It wouldn't surprise me if the game is remembered very fondly as they'll fix it, basically.







It's not a bad faith argument, but thanks for the label. If you reduce the difficulty in other games you'd still have to.. I don't know... accelerate. It's all stuff I imagine they will patch. Critics called the driving sections out in the game too, eg SkillUp mentioned the driving sequences snap you into the right place all the time.

I'd also argue that when your main audience is kids you can actually go much more crazy with systems and complexity because those little fuckers have all the time in the world. If you work in a creative sector you will be doing crunch at some point, for me 3 extra hours 2 times a week as we came close to the launch of a game I was working on was fine. I get paid OT, they pay for food and you get to shoot the shit with colleagues and management and build relationships.

The Navier-Stokes Equations are essential in almost everything from aviation to weather and climate change to blood flow to food processing/brewing/cooking. They are the equations that govern movement of fluids, and predicting where in time and space they will end up as momentum transfers (alongside heat and mass, which are the three pillars of Transport Phenomena) from one place to another in bulk fluids. The uncertainty in the Navier-Stokes Equations means we haven't been able to precisely determine a perfectly precise solution to these equations for boundary conditions (in differential equations, this means that for any given constraint or initial space point or time point, it is physically/mathematically--err, rather it WAS--impossible to solve close to exactly for where that momentum of that bulk fluid will be at any given point in time or solve when the fluid will arrive at any given point in space).



Not being able to predict an exact particular solution to the Navier-Stokes Equations is a major reason why weather predictions are often wrong ("oh shit, the hurricane went left instead of right"), and they get more accurate the sooner in time you try to predict, because the farther off and away in time you try to solve the Navier-Stokes Equations for a point in space (i.e. WHEN will this bulk fluid hit WHERE), the less accuracy you have in predicting the spacetime state of the bulk fluid flow.

This problem is *so fucking important* that it is one of the most important problems in humanity that it was determined long ago that it would be given the Millennium Prize if you solved it, and humans have been puzzling over it for close to 200 years at this point.

According to OpenAI, (their version of the story at least) 10,000 Agentic AI instances worked together to find what I must only assume (if it's creating these headlines) is as close to what we can expect as to be an exact particular solution to the Navier-Stokes equations.

I specifically remember my fluid mechanics professor helping us derive Navier-Stokes from momentum transfer and proving to us that it was impossible to solve the N-S by hand using variables and differential equations. He wasn't sure if me or any other chemical engineer he was teaching at the time would live to see the solution.

To think that human ingenuity and/or AI was able to get us this solution is a miracle of science and mathematics to be quite fucking honest and it's going to change several fields in physics and computation for the rest of forever. This is possibly the most consequential math thing I can think of happening because it is used so much in so much every day engineering, it's not some abstract algebra identity (no offense to my algebra brethren), it is a fundamental physical law that was mathematically impossible to figure out and I'm in awe that we're here today.

I'm sorry, but this is nonsense.

It's a very fundamental misunderstanding that the Navier Stokes Millennium Problem is about "solving" the Navier Stokes equations themselves or finding "THE solution". They are nonlinear partial differential equations. They CANNOT be "solved" in the sense that it is impossible to write down a single closed form function that is a GENERAL solution for every possible boundary condition. This is a well known property for this type of differential equation and has NEVER been in dispute. And this is also NOT what the ChatGPT researchers claim to have found.

The Navier Stokes equations pretty much have to be solved approximately/numerically for each specific use case. In simple terms, the millennium problem is a question whether all such solutions for all use cases are "well behaved" or whether a counterexample can be found that is NOT well behaved and does unrealistic things that could not happen in real fluids.

Now they have found a counterexample, which just means the Navier Stokes equations can not be a full and complete description of how real fluids behave and we would need a better model to simulate fluids more accurately.

Most researchers suspected this to be the case, since the equations rely on mathematical assumptions that diverge from the actual laws of physical reality at extreme scales. Basically the equations are just too simple to accurately model reality.

So this is an important result, but it also is kinda the most boring outcome, since it was the expected one. The counterexample itself is USELESS (because it is unrealistic, duh) and will NOT help us achieve a more accurate simulation or give us a more accurate set of equations that we can use instead.

In practice, not a lot will change. We will just continue to use numerical solutions to the Navier Stokes equations because they are still useful to model fluid flow in situations that are not as extreme as in the counterexample.

Action prompts basically tells you what defensive option the game intends for certain moves, yeah. For the final boss it helps a lot because he has a bunch of mid-combo mixups that don't have good tells.

This is factually correct. 

Kids and losers with no life, no job, no family, no social commitments can sit and play through some jrpg or Soyny shit fest with broken controls that need fine tuning and rambling incoherent storyline for 8 hours a day just fine. 

Most of this industry is built around catering to them. These "mature" games are made for them.
