Anyway, just throwing my two cents in. You seem pretty set on things.

I'm pretty set on things. I mean, you might disagree, but I would consider sitting next to someone at a meal at a small table to be a reasonable proximity, or assumed proximity...after all, there isn't really any way to know if they only detected it in a hug but hate cologne so much that they just don't want to risk it at a holiday dinner.

I will say, as a general update to the thread since it's been bumped anyways, that I floated this scenario to many people in my circles in various capacities (including regular intimate partners) to get a reaction and try to determine if I might, indeed, need to rethink my application. Most people in my life reacted with laughter or "I didn't know you wore it all the time," *except* my Mom, who said "yeah you shouldn't wear that stuff around your uncle." He is apparently so sensitive to it that he forbade his daughters to wear perfume when they were growing up. So I will of course be sensitive to this also in the future. Look at this absolute snitch who got two people banned as they lightly made fun of Zerovag. Imagine going out of your way to report posts. For Alexandros the fear is if Zeo can get made fun of for being a non-critical MCU drone so can he. I think the mods are kinda non plussed I see Solo only got a weeks ban. I'm sure he'll love Alexandros when he gets back.

Also lol at that first post Reeee dishes out 'frontier justice' each and every day to people who usually don't deserve it.

Alexandros, post: 114385034, member: 8501 wrote:I don't quite agree with your description of the situation but that is neither here nor there. My main point is that it is not our place as simple members of this forum to dish out frontier justice to anyone who we feel deserves it. There is a moderation team that handles reports and administers penalties that anyone can seek the help of or bring a matter to their attention as I just did. The person in question did the crime and is currently doing the time, so to speak. That should be the end of it. A group of users taking advantage of that to tar and feather said person serves no purpose and can be very, very dangerous for someone's mental health.

Tygre, post: 114386198, member: 1233 wrote:Without wishing to backseat mod, the advice in these situations is always the same:

Report the posts.

The rules are pretty clear on antagonizing and attacking other members, but Staff can't action posts they don't see.

Alexandros, post: 114386816, member: 8501 wrote:I already did that for a couple of posts. I really didn't want to swamp the mod team with multiple reports on an issue I couldn't know for sure was worthy of further action since it's not my decision to make. Mentioning the broader issue here seemed like a more elegant solution.

FliX, post: 114386981, member: 3168 wrote:As far as I can tell you reported two posts, and both members in question were banned in short order. So I am not exactly sure what else you expect us to do?

Alexandros, post: 114389420, member: 8501 wrote:Nothing at all. As I said above, I wasn't sure if this was an issue worth reporting so I posted here to get a feel of how the mod team sees it. I wasn't aware that the second post was already actioned against because I didn't get the relevant notification.
So basically it’s okay for a member you like to be a bully, but when people tease his ass back it becomes a “Oh you can’t do that. Think about his mental health.”. Typical lying bully behavior tactic.

Also love he needs to be told that the person was “action’d”. What a little sniveling snake.

Quote:The Kojima thread got me thinking about something that I really dislike about the sexualization of women in videogames (and other media), which is how insidious it is. And it's not limited to the game itself; you see that same phenomenon in the marketing and discussion of the game too.

In the case of MGSV, most of what you would experience is the stealth action gameplay and the espionage storyline. That's what the creator of the game and subsuquent marketing would describe as the main vision of the game. But an inextricable part of that vision is Kojima's view of women. That's been a constant thread through all his games. That makes sense as he sees himself as an "auteur", which you could say necessitates him to represent unsavory parts of himself in his works. So that begs the question, if this auteur's vision is so celebrated, why is this particular aspect treated like a dirty secret? Why doesn't the marketing parade around Kojima's latest iteration of "woman"? Surely the people interested in his works would continue to be interested.

Except, maybe some people wouldn't. They might be put off by an explicit showcase of his vision. I'm sure Kojima himself wouldn't mind if his vision is off-putting to some in a creative sense. But games are a business so marketing ends up representing the game in a way that generates the most appeal. So you end up with a product that essentially trojan horses a certain view of women after masquerading as having little to no opinion on the matter. I feel this helps to explain the prevalence of "embarassment" when it comes to playing games like these. And for those who don't notice or aren't bothered, it silently affirms their existing worldview (which in this particular case is the sexualization of women as the status quo).

To be clear, I'm not advocating or expecting Kojima to change his art. I can respect that he sees his creations as a reflection of himself and his views. But I don't respect how this art is packaged into a product that obscures its true nature and results in an insidious disseminiation of these views.
Listen chuds, the only person in the fucking world right now who is qualified to interpret whether or not Kojima lady wanted us to worship the gourd or the shoe is motherfuckin' Kyuuji, first of their name, lord of women in videogames spaces (not true and honest), chosen of Nepenthe, OP of the Joanne thread(s)
The one consistent thing you hear about people working with Kojima is that they really ejoyed working with him.

The only common criticism is that people that he used to work with are dissapointed he no longer hires them.
If Kojima treated women or other actors badly they wouldn't line-up to star in his videogame projects or meet up with him.
Word travels fast in Hollywood.

Also Joosten used to go to MGS fan meet-ups and comic-cons and whatnot long after Konami would pay her for such promotions.
Kojima is andy warhol, everyone wants in on his shit because he's the coolest dude in the room
Also note how Kojima gets 'cinema' actors who would otherwise skip on doing these things for EA or Microsoft or whatever.

Not to mention that when he left Konami to set-up Kojipro most of his key staff joined him or joined later when their contracts allowed them to.
