My main point is that it is not our place as simple members of this forum to dish out frontier justice to anyone who we feel deserves it. There is a moderation team that handles reports and administers penalties that anyone can seek the help of or bring a matter to their attention as I just did. The person in question did the crime and is currently doing the time, so to speak. That should be the end of it. A group of users taking advantage of that to tar and feather said person serves no purpose and can be very, very dangerous for someone's mental health.

The Kojima thread got me thinking about something that I really dislike about the sexualization of women in videogames (and other media), which is how insidious it is. And it's not limited to the game itself; you see that same phenomenon in the marketing and discussion of the game too.

Except, maybe some people wouldn't. They might be put off by an explicit showcase of his vision. I'm sure Kojima himself wouldn't mind if his vision is off-putting to some in a creative sense. But games are a business so marketing ends up representing the game in a way that generates the most appeal. So you end up with a product that essentially trojan horses a certain view of women after masquerading as having little to no opinion on the matter. I feel this helps to explain the prevalence of "embarassment" when it comes to playing games like these. And for those who don't notice or aren't bothered, it silently affirms their existing worldview (which in this particular case is the sexualization of women as the status quo).

To be clear, I'm not advocating or expecting Kojima to change his art. I can respect that he sees his creations as a reflection of himself and his views. But I don't respect how this art is packaged into a product that obscures its true nature and results in an insidious disseminiation of these views.

This is their version of the "get out of jail free" card. You see the nefarious evil is intentionally there, lurking within the product, even if nobody sees it and notices it. And that's what's truly evil, how this deliberate evil has been hidden from view by the perpetrators and makes all who don't problematize the works complicit. The only way to be a good person is to neurotically parse every inch of everything until I find what I'm looking for.

Without wishing to backseat mod, the advice in these situations is always the same:

Report the posts.

The rules are pretty clear on antagonizing and attacking other members, but Staff can't action posts they don't see.

I already did that for a couple of posts. I really didn't want to swamp the mod team with multiple reports on an issue I couldn't know for sure was worthy of further action since it's not my decision to make. Mentioning the broader issue here seemed like a more elegant solution.

I believe nudity is part of Kojimas attempt to include every aspect of the "human experience" in his games.
Panic attacks, mental breakdowns, crying, pain and torture, laughing, mutilation, betrayal, giving birth, sexyness, showering, pooping... there is no topic that is 'taboo' for him to put in his games.

That's why things like curing and tending to your wounds, blindness, deafness or ageing only end up in his games because the buck doesn't stop with being fit and shooting.
A community like ResetEra should celebrate his efforts to push the medium forward to deliver more "diverse" experiences.

You shouldn't complain about "white male power fantasies" if you don't recognize the real attempts to change the typical videogame conventions.
