Think about this from time to time. Self dox, my parents aren’t American, and therefore don’t believe in mental health. As a kid, sometimes you’re confused. I had friend with ADHD whose parents would get them on pills. I’d tell my parents, “maybe I have ADHD?” and the response was “No. You’re just lazy.” That was the end of those conversations. Not that I’d want pills, but understanding what’s up goes a long way. So I think awareness and removing the stigma is good. The badging yourself with mental illness is the other extreme. Maybe that’s based on how I was raised. I don’t know. Parents kept stressing how one shouldn’t label themselves.

bigoted to assume that your parents might not be suffering from a rare disorder that makes them trans-ethnicity, when was the last time you asked them if they truly identified as non-American?

sometimes those who protest the strongest do so because they feel they have to hide their true selves, and what have you done to make them feel welcome to express such things?

Wasabi was great. Kojima...not so great.

I’m surprised other people have seen Wasabi. More should watch it. Nothing about it aged poorly by current standards at all!

Meanwhile ree goes to a restaurant with predictable results 

Ate out last night and the check came back at $46.55. The waitress was totally fine and I planned on tipping her 20% ($9.31). But after she gave back the check with my credit card I noticed that the charge was now $47.95. So I looked at the check and saw that this restaurant adds a 3% credit card processing fee! Having already committed in my mind to paying exactly $55.86 for my meal, I decided to only tip $7.91. I felt kinda bad about doing this though. Should I have just bitten the bullet and tipped the full amount? Obviously I'm never eating at or ordering from this restaurant again even though their food and drinks were pretty damn good. Well maybe I'll come back once I have enough change saved up from the 3 times per year I buy something with cash to pay for my order entirely with coins.

I'm never giving them my business again though. I did write a note on the check explaining the situation and apologizing to the server and encouraging her to find a job somewhere else.

All this over 2 quid.

no it's racism. it's actually very easy to tell what the difference between a place that serves chinese food and a place that serves japanese food. it's a difference as big as going to an italian place and going to a french place. it's just hard to tell if you don't recognize that they're two cultures at all.

i've lived through one million random white people getting my ethnicity wrong, my name wrong, out of pocket shit about what my language sounds like or what they feel comfortable assuming is true about me. i explained to the same coworker thrice i couldn't speak mandarin, i spoke korean. clearly it never stuck. they're 'ignorant' but that doesn't mean they're not racist.

Sometimes it's just a mistake and no malice is intended. Obviously some folks are racist, but it's just lazy to attribute all the situations described in OP as racism.
