There's a scene from the Elephant Man that always reminds of me of B-Dubs. Anthony Hopkins's character is talking to another doctor about the Elephant Man, and Hopkins says "Oh, he's an imbecile, probably from birth. Man's a complete idiot."

He then trails off and says "Pray to god he's an idiot".

It makes me think of Mr. "General Manager" and the possibility that he does read forums like these, and how utterly devastating that must be. It's because of their fundamental assumptions about what policing is and how it should be done. It's not surprising that a forum like The Bire run by an anarchist or even the OG run by older type progressives is interested in a light touch that lets things play out and be handled by the community itself and only really stepping in when others can't do anything (for example on here, deleting spam bots has been most of what me and bork have done) with a minimal interest in solving everything with bans. It's also not surprising that a forum run by these people (and NeoGAF.com before except for certain exceptions) is run by people who think the position that happenstance has granted them reveals the inherent value of the person in it and that there should be a hierarchical set of castes that "manage" all discussion to the correct end points. 

They see the ban as the way to handle things because it's the way to maintain control (and you have to ban, what, you'd let the bad guys get away after they reveal themselves?), if you let the community police itself it may drive off people ZeoVGM through relentless mockery and that conflicts, for whatever reason, with the castes goals. Hence the ever spiraling need for protected classes and restricted topics where every simple discussion becomes an existential one that could cost you your account for a misstep. Unless you suck up to the rulers and that's what's really important to everyone involved here and their ideological predispositions. That others come to them to ask them to use power and in return everyone worships them. Or else.

This is what they want, a police state where everyone is at everyone else's throats about everything because everything can escalate to an existential conflict. If they claim otherwise it's because sometimes the highest caste has to lie in the service of the greater good.
