As far as I can tell, Karl Jobst is more of a drama YouTuber / speedrunner than an actual career journalist, so I'm not really going to expect him to present the veneer of legitimacy where it doesn't help him build his brand. COVID caused the Fed to finally print all the money they should've slowly introduced into the economy from 2010 - 2020 along with raising rates. 10 years of sleeping on the job was forced into a 24 month period of inflationary policy and resulted in the dollar's value eroding overnight. As always, wages started following suit, and are reaching equilibrium with inflation.

What isn't happening yet is people's perception of prices normalizing because it takes our brains a long time to accept that $18 is the new $15. Some of the biggest labor unions in the country just got raises as little as a week ago so of course it hasn't gotten into people's heads yet.

I currently have a cold so I can’t work out and with it being so cold outside, most of my outdoor activities are limited (such as tennis)

But I’m also not watching what I eat as much so I think I get complacent and gain some weight back.

Anyone else have this problem?

Let me preface this by saying that I don't care for Kurzgesagt.

Human beings were not designed to cope with being bombarded with so much stimulation and information all the time. The modern internet is designed to overwhelm and agitate us to keep us endlessly engaged. No matter how righteous or important the agitating content is having so much of it piped into our brains 24/7 is not good for us or our world.

In my experience this leads to this awful feedback loop of "I need to stay plugged and face every injustice" and "but now I'm so overwhelmed that I feel hopeless and don't know what to do." We're not designed to process every problem everywhere in the world all at once.

It's okay to unplug, limit scope, pull back, calm down. It's okay to find balance between being engaged with the broader world of injustices and establishing boundaries around things you can't control. This isn't saying those issues aren't important, this isn't enlightened centrism - it's acknowledging that working for a better world is a lifelong marathon, and we can't keep pace if we're overwhelmed and hopeless.

Most of all, do not trust anyone who wants you to be upset, angry, or scared 24/7. Even if you agree with them and their viewpoint! They're juicing you for engagement and are harming, not helping, the causes they purport to be fighting for.

It's okay to spend today doing small things you do have control over to make your community a marginally better place instead of suffering over huge things far away that you cannot control. If we all did that the world would instantly be a much better place.

A huge problem is they basically did nothing with Carol between Captain Marvel and now.

She's barely in Endgame

And this might have been fine except Captain Marvel was about her learning to be a full human being again and that was great but then she's full soldier mode in Endgame and then that's about it

So unless the allure of seeing Carol have a personality (again not a criticism of the 1st movie which did imo excellent work with telling a story of a person denied the right to emotions) for the first time is appealing there's no hook because who is Carol Danvers?
