between her and dubs directly telling ppl to fuck off, it's clear that a big chunk of the admins actively despise most of the forum.

which is sad because a (very accurate) comment here awhile back about uzzy being "good people" made me think about why the staff's attitudes are so frustrating, and i think it's because the vast majority of ppl on there are actually pretty ok, i've made some great friends there. it's the reason that this thread and it's predecessor bring up the same short list of posters all the time: most people on there just like being on a gaming forum where you don't get called a slur for saying TLoU sucks. that's why the common refrain is "i just hang out in hangouts/OTs," there's plenty of good conversation there, and not everyone is busy ban-baiting each other into oblivion.

when the ban bot was active, you could see this in action, because the overwhelming majority of bans came from shit on the front page. we joke about the like economy, but i wonder if a like system would actually help Era out? so many groups have left the site that the prolific posters who remain are the ones whose identity is now tied up in Era itself - you have "news aggregate" person, "whip up today's twitter outrage" person, and so on. since there aren't any likes, the only ways to get recognized or feel like you're important to the site are getting quoted/replied to as the OP, or getting ppl banned for disagreeing. likes might work as a release valve for the ppl that really need that validation.

A lot of the reaction you're seeing online is because many latinos are defensive with these tropes after their constant use.

You're told "look at the new disney show about latinos" and you're immediately hit with the usual yellow sky and the bunch of family crammed in a room (because hey, we're so poor to afford big houses and yet can't stop having kids amirite?) and as proven by this thread several times the defensive reaction happens.

Then you come and say "Actually using these tropes is totally fine this time since it's based on another latino and actually it's not México it's America!. Maybe using them this time is good"

And yeah that's not going to work. You can't just tell people that this thing that is used to make fun of them them repeatedly is suddenly okay this time.

Yep, the whole podcast really showed her in a new light for me and revealed they have basically been lying about her and can't engage with the topics.
